I am new here. Does anyone know what happened to the original mask(s) used in Halloween? Did any of them survive?
Sadly they are long gone due to horrific rot. Supposedly someone owns the original hero and had it restored but nobody knows 100% if its still around considering the owner is not a fan of showing it off
Interestingly enough, I was thinking a similar topic last night. There were (at least) 3 known masks for the original movie.
Hero: Taken home by Nick Castle after H1, given to Dick Warlock when he played Michael in H2, who kept it for the next few decades before selling it to somebody from (Toledo?) Ohio. He was supposedly going to have it restored, but it hasn’t been seen since the sale in 2004. Rumor has it, it was destroyed in the restoration.
Stunt 1: Taken home by Debra Hill, used in Halloween 2. I’m not sure, but I think it was destroyed during the filming of H2.
Stunt 2: Now this is where my question comes in. There’s a third Myers mask seen in the photo of the after party, but I have no idea what happened to it, where it went after that, or where it is now.
Thanks very much to Ed_ofthe_Dead and Davy Krueger for the insightful answers. I heard something similar about the masks deteriorating, but wasn’t sure if it was true or not. Is there any place to buy used props from the first three films? I am a fan of the first three films despite H3 not having anything to do with MM. Not really a fan of the rest of the films or the Rob Zombie reboots. Having an original prop would be awesome even if it was really expensive!
If I remember correctly, the second and third mask were both destroyed in H2 during the burning scene. If so, that would make the original Hero the only remaining one. But, if it was destroyed during restoration, they might all be gone forever unfortunately
You think a fan would have hunted this guy down for an interview by now haha
i found this maybe help clear some info - but it kinda along sames as wat yall are saying
I know where one is. It’s in an estate from one of the original people involved in the series. The family has it stored away along with a bunch of other things from the series. When I was talking with the family years back they said it’s in great shape. They are extremely nice people and don’t want to be bugged about the series. They told me they would post pics some day but so far, nothing. They know what they have, they don’t wanna sell it. I emailed them about 2 months back and they are going thru things so who knows. Maybe pics soon.
Have you actually seen this mask you speak of Billy?
And having something of such historic value and interest, just to hide it away and never show anyone? What’s the point?
Ok, so I know this has been discussed a thousand times, but this is a topic that never ever gets old atleast for me. So HalloweeN 78, there were 3 original masks, hero, stunt, Malone. Right? Then for Halloween 81, didn’t they request a few more for H2? Of which all looked like the Malone right? There again I’m trying to recall everything I’ve read so Billy and others correct me here please. But my speculation is a original Hero sold off, never to be heard, seen of again. The original stunt (closest to hero) destroyed in the H2 Fire. So that leaves the Malone and whatever Malone look alikes from Don post right? Again corrections and clarifications please.
I get what you’re saying completely, but I also understand having something valuable and keeping your anonymity.
People would be trying to buy it off you constantly. Fake friendship. Harassment. Who knows. I would want to enjoy it in peace. They may just be letting the value skyrock as the fandom grows. Who knows.
Nobody really owns anything though. We just hold it for awhile. We all pass on and our stuff doesn’t go with us.
It will be interesting when it pops back up, if this is true though.
Malone made 3 and kept one for himself
So 2 of the masks on set were Malone made(which became the Hero out of the 3 on set, I don’t know)
Tharp sent two Tramers and a few back ups. These so called back ups seemed to have been semi converted kirks. I talked to DW and he told me also, “Two Tramers and a few DP masks”.
Thank you brother K. So if original hero is gone, so to speak, then a Tramer destroyed in H2 and a stunt hero destroyed in H2, then there is my question, where are the rest? Billy knows where one hero is, where is the other Tramer?
So the guy that bought the Hero from Dick ruined it trying to restore it? What a dildo

The same thing happened with the Refit Enterprise 8 foot long studio model that was used in the Star Trek movies. The model sold at a Christie’s auction to a private collector and he has never even posted a picture.
Yeah it annoys me. Buy something that interests thousands of people to just hide it away. Can’t get a lot more selfish than that and i don’t buy the, “Don’t want the publicity” attitude. The Medley’s didn’t like publicity, but still had the decency to share their Kirk, just saying. IMO if you want to own something of such importance and historic value, to so many people, just to not show anyone, then you shouldn’t have it. (Solely my opinion).

Who knows? Another mask confined to a dark cupboard, where no one will see it.
Im gonna find this guy and ask him.
I agree SI. Sharing pictures is easy this day and you can still maintain your privacy.
I just wouldn’t want people knowing how to contact me.
