I couldn’t help but notice some of the low prices on masks in the classifieds section. Masks like the CGP FEAR and Warlock are listed in the gallery section as having values of around $300 and yet I can find them for $200 in the classifieds. Why is this? Is the hobby of mask collecting not what it once was? Do second hand masks drive down prices that much? I know that mask makers like CGP have gone under so you would think that the prices for their masks would rise right? At first I thought that these masks would be investments but now I’m not so sure. Personally I love my masks and I will continue to collect them for my own personal enjoyment even if they turn out to be poor investments. What do you guys make of all this? I appreciate your input.
Competition has become tighter over the years and with the growing choices out there it’s hard to get good $$ for something years ago (unless it’s a NM78,Psycho, Second Stab, etc). Standards are higher so older masks are not as “in demand” anymore.
The healthiest thing can be disparity in prices; tight competition etc. Otherwise we end up with a “controlled” market.
Dren made some great points. The standards keep getting set and it seems every new mask the elite artists put out gets closer and closer to “the look”.
Eh, for me I feel I have my “grails” (as far as H1, H4, and H8 are concerned). A year ago I would have never though I could say that and I never thought I would. It’s just come to a point where I don’t see many differences in what’s being put out. In my eyes we’ve hit a wall where the only differences now will be subtle.
But as far as a Mint 75’s value vs. an October 78’s…we all know what most people would go for there. And so if someone’s trying to get rid of that Oct. 78 it’s obviously going ot be hard with the standards the Mints and 99s are setting now. That seller’s going to have to go low to get rid of it, because people want the Mint more. For me, I always factor in personal value as well. Take my Nemesis V2, I wouldn’t let that go for any less than $250 because despite that the Nemi isn’t really in demand and that it’s yellowed…I still love the mask.
There is a very similar thread to this already posted, https://forum.michael-myers.net/t/the-economy-and-myers-masks/31351/1
Yeah as many people, this is one of the tightest years for money in family. I’m in that tight in money group. It’s not a joke, its not fun, and it’s emotional with my parents…Just makes me wonder what would happen to life…
And to you my friend…don’t you think getting Warlocks, H78s, FEARs at 200 DOLLARS is bad!? If i got some money, I would so get one
man you never know. continue to take care of those masks and in 15 to 20 years? who knows what you could get out of them. especially if in the next few years Trancus finds away to shut down independant Myers mask makers.
after afew years of no independant myers masks being produced, even the nemi’s and October 78’s could be fetching 400-500 in the black market of myers masks.
well i guess “black market” is what trancus considers this site anyway
Sorry I didn’t know about the other thread but thanks for the input guys
just blame 2012. it’s the end of the world, so buy 'em while theyre hot!
That’s a good one. I’ll use that excuse next time my dad gets on my case about spending money on latex.
Same here That mask cost how much?
Good points everyone,
I agree that as the standards are raised so are the demand for these new masks, leaving the older ones out of the picture unless they are numbered, or are protos etc (Although even protos don’t demand what they once went for).
I think having an actual value in the gallery for each mask, makes it a little harder to get top dollar. People will always want a discount, they know what the top dollar amount is so they offer something lower. Since no one “needs” a mask, buyers can usually out wait someone trying to sell a mask. Evetually if the seller needs coin they will go with the least “low ball” offer.
In the end it’s about what makes you happy.
