Hey I was curious to know if you can buy the film reels that a movie theater uses to show a film? For example can you buy the H2 film reel from your local theater? i was always curious to know where the reels end up.
The actual film reels are owned by the studios and only borrowed by the theaters. Unfortunately most of the film prints get placed through a bandsaw and shredded when they are finished their theatrical run. The studios are very protective of their 35mm film prints.
Sometimes prints get leaked out to collectors but they are generally pretty expensive. Most titles are around the $200-$300 range for something good, some forgettable titles can be had for as low as $50. A print of Halloween on LPP stock (rare print) sold for $4000.
35mm trailers are commonly found on e-Bay but even then some studios flag them. Actually, right now Halloween 4 35mm trailer is on e-Bay starting at $5.99.
