Where was Michael before he went home and killed Judith?

The card reads “Halloween night, 1963.”

We fade in and are in Michael’s perspective. He’s coming out from behind a tree and then crosses the street to his own house. The rest is history.

What I’ve been wondering about for years now is where Michael was before killing Judith. The Myers wouldn’t have just let a kid that young go trick or treating on his own. Judith is the typical teenage girl, more concerned with her boyfriend than watching her little brother.

So where was Michael earlier that night? More importantly, who was he? Putting aside the crap in the later sequels about curses or the boring “real-life serial killer” background of Zombie’s films, was Michael Myers just a normal kid until that night? Until “some secret, silent alarm triggered him off” for the first time?

If you strip away the nonsense of trying to explain what shouldn’t be explained, it’s horrifying to think that for some reason beyond human understanding, an average 6 year-old kid can suddenly become the embodiment of pure evil, the Boogeyman.

I was hoping the new film would touch on this, but as far as I know (and I’m avoiding all spoilers) this isn’t addressed. I didn’t want this explained at all, just a reference to pre-1963 Myers. “He was just a normal kid by all accounts, until that night.” Something to that effect.

He’s 6 in 1963, not 1978, so the unfounded fears of poisoned and bladed candy and treats isn’t in play. There’s a chance he may have been with a family friend and split off. Or may have been returning from trick-or-treating, as Judith noted that he was “around here somewhere”.

Solid point and I edited the original post to reflect that. Still doesn’t explain where he was, though I do like your theories. No matter where he was, if he was a “normal” kid before he went home, the implications are still horrifying. If it could happen to this 6 year old, could it happen to me? It may have happened to Charlie Bowles, though we don’t know if that was on Halloween night.

I feel it is better left unexplained, but I do have an interesting theory. Based on Judith saying “Michael’s around here somewhere”, I feel like he didn’t go trick or treating. So, I feel like the reason he is outside is because maybe when Judith’s boyfriend showed up, he went outside to sort of get away perhaps, and while he was out there, that “secret, silent alarm triggered him off”, and that’s when he decided to go back in the house and do his dirty work.

Mrs. Blankenship was watching him across the street. Explained in Halloween 6.

I think he was trick r treating but as Sam Loomis said he could have been outside the house to kinda hide.

This is assuming the other movies didn’t happen.

not knowing is what makes it scary.

didn’t you learn anything from RZH?

Just figured he was just trick or treating and “wanted to see” what killing was like. What will happen if I stab her? And in doing that he went crazy

Honestly there have been normal kids who have done that and years later they are okay but something went wrong in there thinking and they just wanted to see someone die

I always thought he was trick-or-treating. And after he got done “the deed” he was going back out to trick-or-treat but was caught by his parents as they pulled up.

Frankly, after a while this just becomes a cop out. I do agree over all that mystery is more scary but sometimes you just have to admit that’s certain concepts just seem kind of absurd.

If you’d read my original post you’d know. Never once did I suggest showing or explaining, just one line to deepen the mystery.

The way ive always thought of it in my odd mind is maybe being behind a mask finally triggered his deepest darkest emotions and finally brought out the devil. Maybe he started outside because he wanted to first stalk his pray in his so called heavy breathing slow stride walking demonic “shape”. Either way that’s my take on it and it’s staying that way. :jack_o_lantern:

I always thought it was kate after all the Halloween festivities are over. which would explain why his parents are coming home

Judith simply wasn’t paying attention to what Michael was doing. She was to busy making out with her BF, therefore young Michael was left alone and probably played outside by himself. Remember Judith’s BF asked we’re alone aren’t we, and she replied “Michael”s around somewhere”, meaning he was most likely playing inside and outside the house. I think that Judith took him Trick or Treating earlier in that evening, got back home, and called her BF to come over since her parents where not home.

If a six year old came at you with a knife would you just sit there complaining or fight back
