I would imagine if you have a consistent and steady amount of people lining up for you it’s a possibility to make it your primary source of income….you would def have to make a name for yourself which doesn’t happen overnight. And of course the quality of your work will play a huge role on the demand side of things. All the heavy hitters seem to have their seats packed and the game locked down…then again my 2 cents don’t mean much considering that line of profession ISNT my source of income.
I’ve wondered this myself. Every artist I’ve dealt with seems to have a “real” job in addition to their mask work. However, I’d be interested if James Carter does it full time given his super lengthy wait list and his unquestioned status as an elite artist.
I also wonder about Cris Patterson at Sinister Studio given what appears to be a very consistent output of all masks and his website.

If say you’re selling your masks for $300 on average you’d have to do roughly 3-4 masks a week at least. And because it’s your primary income, that’s gross before income tax.
You might find for primary income it’s better to be a reseller of Myers/other horror products (e.g. Nightmare Toys) and just do rehauls on the side.
Not likely to happen with just Myers masks…maybe if you were to do all kinds of masks and/or other props, different story…but I imagine it’d take a heavy combination dose of business savvy and artistic ability…Night Owl as was mentioned, NAG might be in a similar situation…
I think Jimmy Falco from Spookhouse Props does it full time now
Ben and Laura from Father Phantom Studios and Nick Mulpagano from Handiboy!
I do masks full time at Shape Killer Studios
I mean if u have a roommate/spouse and it’s evenly split, I could see doing 2 masks a week and still making it. My father supported a wife and 4 kids for 8 years straight off HVAC and making masks.
Yeah my mistake…people definitely do it and I forgot about the fact it can be done and is done…lots of good mask makers out there and apparently there’s a market for it, though it’s kind of a niche I suppose…
