Why do they call it Halloween 3?

The Halloween series wasnt supposed to be ALL about Michael Myers. Michael Myers was just a ‘story’, and Season of the witch was another, and I assume if it wuld have done as well as Halloween 1 and 2 that we would have a few different Halloween stories, instead of 17 Myers movies that we dont need because they ruin the name. The only reason they went back to myers was because H3 did so poorly.

I’m with aj!

Totally agree

Also a great post

My posts keep disappearing… well what i said was, IMO H3 was a great movie. The makers of the film realized that they’ll be criticized for naming it in the series along with the white masked killer, but it was too late to change the name. Im sure 90% of fans were disappointed and upset at this, but if its watched as a film and not part of the series, it WAS a good film. Its just the misleading title…

I honestly kind of wish after h2, they would have kept going the route of different stories…i would have loved to see what happened. the story of the night he came home
season of the which
and then what…:open_mouth:

I believe that Halloween III really wasn’t as much of a commercial failure as it is suspected to be. It was, however, a critical failure - that is beyond dispute. But Halloween III saw a 576% return on its budget at the Box Office. To qualify this - one of the biggest blockbusters in recent years, The Dark Knight, only had a 542% return on it’s budget. So for it’s budget category, it didn’t do so badly.

I’d like to add that I love Halloween III… almost as much I love Carpenter’s Halloween.

Kind of…after “Halloween II” it was decided to take the series into different stories and take “Myers” out of the equation.

Actually, the only reason they went back to “Myers” after “Halloween III” was financial reasons; the “Halloween investors” were going to sue if another “Halloween,” with “Myers,” was not going to be made. All of the investors were on board except for one…John Carpenter; John knew his name would be attached to the new “Halloween” and he wanted it to be good; that was when he (John) got with Dennis Etchison and a “Halloween 4” script was written that John approved of. Unfortunately, Akkad didn’t get the script…it was too supernatural for Akkad to fathom. (The towns fear made "Myers’ re-appear.) After much pressure from the other Halloween investors, John sold his rights back to the partnership and a “Halloween 4” commenced without him; although they used his name twice in the credits…characters based on and music by so John instantly gets a paycheck for those purposes every-time they use it and from the first 3 movies.

I saw H1 and H2 in the theater upon their release (twice each) and when H3 came out, my Mother and Step Father went to see it. They told me about it and I declined to go see it myself. Many years passed, and I decided to watch it, and I’m glad I did. It’s a fun flick, and has Dick Warlock in it, and the always awesome Tom Atkins. Stacy was an added plus too! Like TLW said, its a fun popcorn movie.

Halloween III actually my favorite of the series. I loved the idea that Halloween was going to be an anthology series, I really wish they kept going in that direction.

Amen, the Myers storyline really should’ve been wrapped up for good with the burning mask & ‘Mr. Sandman’ outro in Halloween II.

Actually, even more perfect would’ve been Season of the Witch being Halloween 2 and Myers’ story ambiguously ending with hearing the heavy breathing and creepy photography from within all the houses and setpieces of the movie to show that Myers could be anywhere and everywhere. It’s by far the most effective, eerie slasher ending of all time.

Thats what I said. Lol.
