Why does everyone hate the RZ films ?

The reason is because Halloween fans are big on rehashed everything. That’s why the garbage new one is so big right now. It copies everything from the old ones. Some like Zombie’s first but loathe the second one because it was layered and they don’t want to bother seeing that aspect.

Is that the reason? Not mine. Truth is it never should have been remade. You don’t see remakes of The Godfather, Jaws, Star Wars, ECT. Why even try? it’s a perfect movie imo

RZH2 isn’t a remake though. It does its own thing with the character and it deals with something we never got much of prior to its release. The story deals with Laurie going off the deep end with PTSD and the effects Michael had not only on her, but everyone around her. The characters are more developed than any in the franchise and there’s actually a decently believable storyline for once. He humanized Michael and I get that fans don’t like that but I’d rather know the motivations than lazily chalking it up to “he’s evil.” It doesn’t make sense. Any time I see people hating on it, it’s because they missed all that. It’s always “white horse and mom” as if they were actually there and not just visual representations of Michael’s psyche. There’s also the whole Jason comparison which also shows that people didn’t pay attention to the layers it had. Fans like boring one dimensional characters, subpar storylines and seeing only what they’ve seen before. Look at the new Halloween for proof of that. I will say RZ’s writing didn’t fit but his version was way more developed than pretty much the entire series.

Glad you liked it. Not for everyone

Yeah. Like I said, everyone just wants the same old thing they’ve seen a million times.

I’ve never understood people wanting remakes to just be a carbon copy of a movie they’re already seen. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Exactly!

This thread spiraled fast

I gave an in depth analysis as to why I didn’t like the films. Myers was a creation of John Carpenter and was made to be a man who embodied evil. I didn’t need the in-depth analysis of his childhood. There was never supposed to be a “because”. He was evil and a terrible childhood wasn’t necessary to explain why he became that why. I enjoyed him killing his bully and the gore isn’t why I dislike the film, it is the entire premise. H2 was even worse and the white horse just added unnecessary confusion.

I am glad there are people who thoroughly enjoy both films but they just are not for me. He humanized evil and even made him homeless. His face being revealed in 1978 was a huge deal and in Rob Zombie’s films it was commonplace and overdone. I never asked for carbon copies of the original but the new film is a perfect example of how it should be done. When presented with the mask, he doesn’t need to say a word and yet you sense the evil from the reactions of everybody else. Zombie left nothing to imagination and turned a legend into a common killer. Not to mention he went from a normal sized guy to a giant and looked more like Jason than he did Michael.

Exactly. No remake was required

After watching Halloween 2018…it makes me appreciate Rob’s version and the sequel, Halloween II, even more.

Humanizing the evil was the point. You’re allowed to go different directions with things. Like I said, what’s the point of a carbon copy? I for one appreciate the opposite take of the story. I just wish it hasn’t been so over-the-top white trash.

I never asked for a carbon copy. There are many sequels to Halloween, and while I’m not a big fan of the Thorn storyline, none of the films explained why he is the way he is. It is much more frightening to have a killer that kills just because than it is because he was abused and bullied. I’m glad you liked it, but humanizing Michael was something I and many fans were against. It is okay to have different opinions, but besides maybe Resurrection, Zombies entries are my least favorite in the franchise. The 2018 film showed you can use brutality without the need for an explanation. Again, the revealing of his mask got no reaction from Michael but was so well done the entire theater sensed the evil. He spoke not one word and that is how I prefer to think of Michael Myers.

after watching halloween 2018 I said to myself ‘‘thank god,a nice sequel again and now I can forget the messy rob zombie’s halloween’’

Trust me, I get it. But the idea that no killer should ever have his background explored is silly. I get it, Michael has already been established as the mysterious boogeyman. But it seems like people dislike the entire concept of a killer’s psyche being explored and I don’t get that.

I never said that. But I guess that’s the point.

Like you said “people dislike the entire concept of A killer’s psyche being explored…”

He isn’t just a killer. He was never meant to be just a man. Besides Rob Zombie turning him into a physical giant, he turned a supernatural being into a human with simple childhood trauma. A concept all too common.

Somebody on Facebook posted this and it is exactly how I, and others feel. It’s not like I just hate the movies, but they took my favorite killer of all time and humanized him. I have no issue evaluating the psyche of others, just not Michael Myers.

Ok. My comment wasn’t a “tit for tat” comment so there really was no need to respond to it.

For me, it’s another chapter in this Halloween franchise we all adore, and I can see his H2 gain a cult following similar to H3 season of the witch. Like I have said previously, had his H2 been called something else, I believe it would of been respected more.

For me, I hated his H2 with a passion at first. But now almost ten years later, I do appreciate it for what it is. He does do a solid job with what his vision was in that one. But again, the over the top white trash elements frustrate me to say the least. There is just no reason for it, other than to add that Rob Zombie flare, and that was the whole point anyway, to make them “more Rob zombie-ish”.

As for his first film, I am of the camp that didn’t want a backstory, but I am not mad that it was explored. Perhaps if he had taken a bigger risk with the second half of his first movie, it wouldn’t have felt so out of place. He didn’t have to stick to those same beats, but he chose to do so, and it then becomes an instant comparison to the original movie. Had he gone down a whole different road after that first half of the movie, it might of felt different I suppose.

But all in all, even though I have bashed them in the past, I still watch them, albeit the theatrical cuts, but still do watch them. You know what I don’t watch AT ALL??? Busta Rhymes Kung Fu fuckery!!! Now that is total shit!! And if someone actually defends that movie, then more power to them!! Lol

As for the new film, I love it. Yeah, it is filled with throwbacks and Easter eggs, but it’s a well made movie. We all know there will be a sequel to it, so that is a chance to give a fresh story, since the fan service is out of the way.

It was no different with Rob Zombies H1, he serviced the fans that whole second half of movie. It was no different in that respect. But when he got to make his part 2, we had a whole different ball game. So they definitely have that chance with the sequel to this new one, to give it a fresh take and do something different, since the fan service is out of the way.

well there’s a reason why everyone when they want to mention halloween 2007 and 2009 they say ROB ZOMBIE’S halloween and not halloween remake or halloween reboot cause rob zombie’s movies are not ‘‘halloween’’ …he destroyed michael myers story and personality …his movies were bad.not real ‘halloween movies’ for me…thank god halloween 2018 happened and saved the franchise…

I appreciate both sides. The original will always be dear in my heart, but I can appreciate the RZ version. I grew up watching H1 & H2 - H3 grew on me after a few watches. I saw H4 in the theater as a kid & was joyed to “have Michael back.” After that, I lost interest. I saw H20 in the theater as well & thought it was “okay.” I just forced myself to sit through Resurrection, telling myself, “Hey, at least ‘Starbuck’ is in it.” But, a good friend of mine loves that movie & we can have fun picking on each other about it. Now, I’m watching the theatrical cut of RZ’s Halloween & plan to watch his sequel tomorrow. To each their own, but I can enjoy both. Oh, & even though I only saw it once - I gotta say that I thoroughly enjoyed the 2018 Halloween. There are also a few fan films out there that I really like & have always wanted to do my own “remake” fan-films. I guess I just enjoy Michael Audrey Myers & Halloween all the way around.
