You're to fat to be Michael Myers !

Hello guys strange thread I know but this came to my attention a few days ago , the story being I’ve been looking to score a warlock so did a quick YouTube search to have a look at some, came across a guy who had shot a video of him in his warlock and his coveralls. This was filmed really well and had Been edited together really well also may I add. The poster was a large gent ( I didn’t even notice until I read the comments ) and someone had commented saying the poster was " was to fat to wear the costume " … I don’t know why but this really annoyed me, I don’t think anyone should be discouraged from doing a hobby they enjoy just because of there weight , height etc. Would it be unacceptable for a 120lb guy to dress up as leatherface ? Would it not be right for a 5 foot guy to wear his hock ? Certainly not ! I’m sorry if this is seen as venting but I just wanted to see other peoples thoughts on the matter, maybe you have also been reluctant to post costume shots for whatever reason ? Thanks guys.

Sad as it may seem there are some who get a kick out of it,pathetic yes indeed,no one’s made perfect we all have our flaws somewhere but let people enjoy what they love and encourage not discourage im pretty sure that remark will have come from some Kid who owns a bluelips or some s***

**I agree with your spirit and the idea of 'fans being proud fans", etc., but if I am being honest when or if I see this at a convention:

I don’t then think “Right on man, dressing up is cool!” I think “That fat person in a costume looks hilarious.”**

As a rule I don’t say stuff on the internet I wouldn’t say in person. Actually, I’m probably nicer on the internet because humor is hard to interpret without establishing tone. But many people feel embolden by the anonymity to be cruel or take a shot they wouldn’t otherwise in person. And I think that’s hypocritical. If I don’t like it I don’t comment.

If you want to sit around calling people fatso all day, I don’t think its very imaginative, but hey that’s your prerogative. Likewise if your going to post ANY pics of yourself online it might be better to have some thick skin because no matter what you look like someone is going to say something you don’t want to hear.

And it’s not like GPW was skinny in part 6. Myers has been played by a variety of people and body types and he’s always been recognizable as Myers.

Are you a psychic? Dude you literally stole the words right out my noggin!

Whose standards is anyone trying to appeal to? I know I don’t need approval to enjoy myself in this hobby. You become active with a hobby like cosplay because you’re passionate about it in different ways and find fun in emulation, whether or not you’re average weight, underweight or overweight. As Ramonesome points out, anything you ever post on the internet is subject to anonymous response. You’ve got to anticipate these if you for some reason actually care about the value of someone’s opinion who comments so aimlessly/trivially. Now, it it’s a competition and you might be receiving comments from a professional, then that would be an example of critical listening. And remember, professionals are sometimes wrong, too, more often than you might think.

The internet is infested with trolls, most of us learn the hard way. They will never go away. Most of them are just basic, neanderthal-like creatures with plenty of their own problems. Some are more advanced and get off on the fact they can effectively annoy another person. They Live amongst us here on the boards looks about

There are many ways to rebuttal effectively or you can just choose to ignore them, which is usually the best option instead of humoring their ruse with anger or frustration.

Haha, this is why most of my shots are chest up.
Pass the hot wings and cheese grits!

I’m barely 5’11 and I used to get ragged on all the time for wearing my vader suit, and I’m way more muscular than Freddy but I still wear the outfit. Costuming is for fun, so dress up how you like and let the haters hate. Most of the ones making fun are too scared to actually dress up and enjoy themselves, posers!

i am 6’0" and 235lbs, personally i do not dress up in too many costumes unless it is leatherface or jason because i think i would look funny as a freddy or a myers (and hardly any myers masks fit my big head). but that is just me, i am a “if it makes you feel good, do it” kind of guy and would never judge someone for dressing up and sporting their costume.
damn the nasty comments and wear that costume short chubby jason, tall huskie freddy & chunkie squat myers, i love it.

mike

I saw the one your talking about awhile back. There,s so many ass wipes on You tube I just try to ignore them but I too am hot headed as hell and wish I could grab em with my giant hands LOL There,s a character we all fit like me Frankenstein works well lol but I will still go as an overly tall Myers Why not! I just always try to stay HUMBLE and treat others with respect, but if your bad Freddy gets mad

Being a toothpick, I’ve never gotten that comment. I did suit up last year at my haunted house for a night as Myers and work the crowd. The main comment I got all night was “Wow, you’re awfully short to be Michael Myers”…Yet, I’m 6". If they only knew how tall Castle and Warlock were :unamused:

Myers has definitely because known for being a massive, 7" giant apparently. What happened to Myers being a regular sized, every day guy in a mask?

That is just sad. And down right mean. Who cares what size the person is; they have the same passion and love we have for the myers masks, and other horror collections! When I score my first myers mask, I will proudly wear it and post the pics of me wearing it even though I am: a) not even 5 foot tall b) more curvy and fuller in places and c) i have boobs. :butthead:

There are no words. Thats funny as shit.

People should do what makes them happy. If you’re ragging on people’s pics then you have too much time on your hands. I say let there be Myers and Jason and Gene Simmons in all shapes and sizes.

Sure, there are morons around who just like to put others down (and they suck!) - but if you’re going for absolute screen accuracy with your chosen costume/character, then unfortunately height/weight etc. does become something an issue.

The ‘Spiderman’ pic above, and the reaction to it here, is an example: props to the person for dressing how they like, but they have to expect snide remarks given they are clearly a different body shape to the character. Unfortunately, when you are attempting to be a character, comparisons inevitably occur…

At some point common sense has to step in. Sorry but the guy in the spidy suit doesn’t have the body for tights. You have to know by wearing that you are going to get some laughs. If he is cool with that than it’s all good.

Well said Jason!

I dont think spidy is taking life overly serious and I love it. I have a buddy with this stature and he would wear it and laugh like hell. Trust me he,s goofin. I agree with n ghoul This is for fun.

Amen to that, brother.

I’m personally of the “find the right character for YOUR build, height, stature, physical presence that you enjoy and can physically ‘become’ when in costume, then go for it” opinion when it comes to cosplay. In fact, I wrote a whole blog post about this very subject when I and my attitude became the subject of scrutiny for another blog writer:

http://100yearsofwaiting.tumblr.com/

I look at it this way (and again…this is JUST my opinion…I’m not stating it is how it HAS to be): I have the build, height, and physicality to dress as certain characters that make up my cosplay rotation (Joker, Michael Myers from the first two films, Spider-Man, Indiana Jones, Freddy Krueger, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sackhead Jason from Friday 2). But I DO NOT have the build to portray other characters I wish I did (Darth Vader, Jason from any of the sequels aside from the second film, Leatherface, Batman, Superman), so…I respectfully leave those out of my rotation. Same goes for my wife: she can pull off Harley, Black Cat, Emma Frost fairly well. But she doesn’t feel she has the proper build for PowerGirl, Slave Leia, etc…so she doesn’t even try.

I guess I’d say do what makes you feel good. I just happen to want to look like the character because I like my look/cosplay to be as authentic as possible, that’s all.
