Just curious if anyone here knows about Shinedown guitarist and background vocalist Zach Myers and maybe whether he’s a member here?
I’ve been a big fan of Shinedown since around 2002/2003 and I’ve seen them numerous times over the years. something I started to notice after about 2005/2006 or so, after Zach became a more significant part of the band, was that on stage there would always be a Michael Myers mask on a stand somewhere during their live performances. Usually it was in a place like near the front of the drum kit or on top of an amp or something. I always wondered about it and then I asked some questions about it on the Shinedown forums and found out that Zach is a HUGE Michael Myers fan. He even has custom guitar picks made for him to use (obviously if you’ve been on ebay you have probably seen them).
I’ve always wondered what mask(s) Zach takes on tour (the one on stage is definitely not a mass produced mask if you’ve seen it) with him what kind of collection he might have. Edit - I was reading on wiki that he is apparently a collector of vintage musical instruments and has a very large collection. My guess is he has a pretty sweet Myers collection if he’s that big of a fan (what, with the rock star level income and all ).
Just thought this might be an interesting topic after I did a search and found no posts about Zach.
I remember watching the band get interviewed on tv a long time ago and Zach talked about how he brings his lucky Myers mask with him on every tour. I also noticed in one of their music videos that he has the thorn tattoo on the inside of his wrist and that his acutal name is Michael Myers. Pretty crazy. If I can find the video of him talking about the mask I’ll post it.
I think I knew about his real name being Michael or reading about it at some point. I also have been close enough to the stage at shows to notice his thorn tattoo too. Pretty cool!
That’s cool. If he was/is a member here I think it would be cool to showcase his collection in “collector of the week” fashion.
I SAW HIM BACKSTAGE @ A SHOW AND GOT TO SEE HIS GUITAR RIG UP CLOSE ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, HE’S A REAL COOL DUDE. I LOVE HOW HE HAS THE H4 MYERS COVER MASK ON HIS TRUSS ROD ON HIS GUITAR THAT WAS PRETTY BADASS. I THINK WE GOTTA HOOK THE MAN UP WITH A BETTER MASK THAN THE SAMHAIN
My experience with Shinedown has always been positive best memory is when they were playing at a local place in Charlotte NC called Amos’ Southend and right across the street is a place called Jillian’s Southend which is sort of like a restaraunt/arcade well me and the group I was with ate at Jillians and low and behold Shinedown came in and sat right beside us to eat, cool guys even signed a few autographs for us after they ate. I noticed his tattoo asked him about it and he explained he got it because of the mystery behind the Thorn, didnt go into much detail about it but then they went into the arcade and invited us to hang with them for a while in there before the show. To my knowledge, he is not a member here. When we first started talking he tried to convince me that the mask he owned was the actual hero mask from H1/H2. Once he realized that I knew my Halloween/Myers history he never said that again. Nice guy, but he was misinformed about the mask he owns. He used to be pretty close friends with Scout Taylor Compton. I’m not sure if they are still friends or not.
I just read a Guitar Magazine Article from the December 2010 issue and it says he takes the “original” Myers Mask on tour with him so apperently he’s still saying that. He sounds like a heck of a nice guy, but he really needs to stop saying he has the “original” myers mask
It is pretty neat to see someone in the “Rock and Roll” spotlight so into Myers never the less
