A couple of new masks.

I had a great week of mask hunting last week. I found an original vinyl DPS 1967/1976 “Skull” in an old costume shop last Wednesday and I bought it for $45, I love this mask and it’s my very first mask related to “HalloweeN III”. The shop owner was not familiar of its association with the movie. Some of its original paint had faded away but it’s in such a great shape. The next score that came in on last Friday is an original DPS 1986 “The Mask” still tagged, this copy came from an inventory leftover of an old costume shop in Springfield, MO that had been closed for many years. The purchasers of the shop’s contents had no idea that it was supposed to be a Michael Myers mask so I bought it for only $9.99.

Leo-

Congrats on some fine masks, Colby! Nothing beats a DPS Skull…well, maybe a '75 Kirk! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for sharing.

Mark

Congrats on your new scores…Dean

Saw these on Facebook. Great scores.

Pity about the crease on “The Mask” (when I read that the seller folded the mask I wanted to crap…despite the great price of course, still who ships that way?).

Any way to get the crease out? Hair Dryer on low?

Very lucky my friend those are fantastic pieces  be sure to update us when you got that DP 86 foam filled

Oh man you got an 86 :astonished: Lucky dog…Congrats on the haulage buddy :drinkers:

Thank you Leo, Mark, Dean, squidboy, Marcus, and Anthony! Much appreciated for the comments.

Maybe one day, Mark… Heh! Just gotta keep digging…

squidboy, yeah it was folded in half inside the package and ABSOLUTELY NO mask should have been shipped in that way. It actually looks worse when it’s not stuffed, being stuffed to the max really helps it to keep its shape but I couldn’t stuff out the crease. I have heard of the hair dryer method but I have never tried it, I always feared that it would heat up my mask too much and melt it… LOL. I’m planning to get it foam-filled so hopefully that will smooth out the crease, I appreciate the advice.

I sure will share some pictures after I get it foam-filled.

Leo, text me anytime! I’m not as busy anymore.

that skull looks amazing even with the paint all chipped off it gives the mask a funky tone.

NICE MASKS

Hey Colby isn’t the hair dryer method just for vinyl? since vinyl is a type of plastic it softens up and allows you to manipulate it to get out any imperfections. I could be wrong but i thought it was just for vinyl

Colb you rock brother great stuff…always love opening your threads!!

Those are sweet scores Colby! That vinyl skull is killer

I’ve had relative success with it with a CS mask

Interesting. I know CS masks have unique latex but Colby could give it a try huh?

I think with the issues people have had in the past with the latex on DP/86’s melting, rotting, etc the Hairdryer treatment wouldn’t be a very wise move.if anything it could speed up the deterioration that those masks are very prone to.

Thank you, thedeadlycreator, GHOSTCLOUD, Jimmy, and lionel_luthor! I appreciate the comments very much.

Thanks for the advices, Marcus, lionel_luthor, and Anthony. I think I will just leave it alone and hope that the foam-filling job will get rid of it, I would have tried that method if it was a newer mask but DPS used cheap liquid latex on “The Mask” so I don’t feel confident enough to take a risk with it. It would make more sense to use it on vinyl masks because it’s thicker and stronger… I was actually on the way to the hospital for my girlfriend’s appointment when I stopped by the small costume shop and picked up the “Skull”… I had to leave it in the truck at the hospital and it was HOT as Hell outside, the mask had gotten hot by the time I got back to the truck but it was perfectly fine once I turned on the air conditioner. So, I definitely wouldn’t mind using that method on a vinyl mask. :sunglasses:

I think thats an excellent decision Colby. Like Ant said those masks are already quite prone to rotting, defo not the “experiment” type lol. Stuffing should do a world of good anyway. Again nice scores indeed pal

congrats on the scores those are sick! :sunglasses:
