I can’t help but be baffled over the hundreds of masks it seems That I have seen on here and Ebay/Evilbay that are so marked up in price it makes me laugh. What is it with dumba** people paying stupid money for a mask that is $60.00 and a market that is flooded with this particular mask? The mask is not worth jack didley because it seems there are ten thousand of them floating around and everyone thinks there copy is worth more then what the next guys is for some reason. It is out of stock big deal and it will be back and in greater #s next time around and soon all you people and you know who you are will be screwed trying to sell your mask you think is worth $1000.00 and won’t be able too cause your local Walgreens will have them back in stock and your $60.00 mask will be worth actually $30.00 because it’s used. So greed up while you can I guess and you dumba** consumers out there keep paying tons for a cheap a** mask thinking you got something when you don’t… u have a $60.00 mask that you just paid $400.00 for okay… sorry for the rant but damn people are crazy stupid sometimes
I have to agree 100% even my Facebook market place has people selling them for well over 100$ I wanted to get one in store because of the paint being so hit or miss but I’m not gonna pay more the the 60$ it’s worth. Hell even party city jacked there price up to 99$
Value is all subjective man…if someone is willing to drop $1,000 on a converted $60 mask… there is really nothing we can do or say…it’s their choice. Also, a lot of these are eBay auctions rather than Buy it Now.
I think the fact that TOTS is on back order till December, short supply, high demand and the huge popularity of the movie…it should come as no surprise these masks are going for so much.
Plus, you have to admit, a lot of these conversions look really good.
I also saw on Party City’s website they were selling for $99.99. I’m guessing they sold out quickly in stores and Party City needed extra incentive to get more inventory.
I yeah but when it’s not even a redo and they want well over 100$ is a little out of hand. I understand value is subjective just saying. I also think it’s funny tots did pre orders on the masks and than shipped to the stores and some people went and bought them at a local store before there preorder even came
It’s not even about the quality or the value of said item anymore man. Its all about people with no patience and wanting instant gratification.
It’s just like the NES and SNES classics, when they originally launched, I managed to grab both during their respective launches for the regular retail price. But then started seeing them on eBay for 200-300+ dollars and people were actually paying it.
Now my local Walmarts here in the Pittsburgh area are stocked to the brim with both editions. As for the ones who scalp and sell, it’s total bullshit, but what can you really say if people are willing to throw money at them because they are impatient? Shit sucks, but that’s how this world is working these days.
I have to say though, I NEVER thought that practice would spill over into our little Myers mask community. That shit has transcended any and every product you can think of now, which is incredibly sad.
Maybe I am just getting old, but I always had to wait for the things I wanted in life, and quite frankly appreciate said things much more when I did finally get them. I have been trying to teach my son those same values, so hopefully he can appreciate the fine things in life instead of thinking he’s owed everything.
But you can’t just say it’s generational either, as I am a couple years shy of 40 years old, yet know some folks older than myself who are just as impatient and greedy as some young folks of the world. So it’s definitely just become a way of life for some people no matter what generation their from.
So yeah, it has nothing to do with quality, or how great a product is, it’s instead all about the impatience and if it’s a popular item. Sad, but unfortunately true.
Yeah but still…even if it’s not a redo…it’s supply and demand. They’re sold out everywhere and if you order from TOTS, you’re waiting till December. People’s time preferences vary, if you REALLY want a mask in two days and can’t find it anywhere, you are more willing to pay more for it to get it now. It’s irrational, I get that. But it really doesn’t makes sense to complain or judge how other people spend their money.
We could literally make the same judgements or comments about anything. It’s crazy to spend $45K on a pick up truck for example…but people still do it. Dare I say it’s crazy to spend $1,000 on a KH mask? One could make that same argument (trust me, if I had an extra 1,000, I would totally buy a KH mask). That’s all I’m saying.
It’s the same for any collectible since people cared about collectibles. Kind of like guys who would go to Toys R Us and buy action figures to resell on ebay.
Also, keep in mind that on ebay that’s a lot of asking prices - not buyout prices.
People are trying to cash in on the hysteria around the new film. Obviously.
I had completely forgotten about these. I never was able to get one at retail and wouldn’t pay the scalper prices. Looks like I’ll be making a trip to Walmart today.
I get ya. Its that persons money they are spending and if they want to spend it than so be it. I just think its nuts. I personally think w some of the paints I have seen from tots 60 bucks is even nuts lol
I said this in the group and was laughed at and given a lesson on “capitalism”. Are the buyers crazy for paying the prices? Yes. But that doesn’t justify the lack of conscious it takes for somebody to sell a mask worth $60 for 10x that. It is very sad to me truthfully. I have kept a list of people who have sketchy business practices and ended up blocking many on Facebook and kept the list of eBay sellers to avoid.
Now I just got a 2006 Butcher. I really wanted it, and paid much more than I wanted to pay. The difference is, that was an indy mask, from the original year, and they are extremely hard to come by. The TOTS mask, while nice, will always be created as it is a mass-produced mask. What really bothered me was CollectiblesUL buying a converted H40 from Jackson at a very reasonable price and selling it for $3,000. That was just wrong. He doesn’t feel bad of course, but it made me feel terrible for the buyer. If an artist chooses to sell their work for crazy prices, it is up to you to purchase the mask or try to bargain with them. But people who buy masks reasonably priced from artists just to flip… I have no respect for them.
Ill say this much, Im not paying double or triple original cost without seeing it first. Those paint jobs from the factory are so hit and miss. Some look good, some are plain awful.
I feel the same way. I dont want to order off line even when they are back in stock and finally a regular easy to find item. I’m probably just gonna hold off till Halloween 2019 if they are still around to get one
Someone on my FB bought the new mask at Party City for $60. He said it was to small and was going to sell it. Two days later someone on his FB bought it from him for $120. He double his money in two days, and sold it to someone who nothing about Myers mask, when he could have told them to get on from Party City for $60.
What’s even more ironic is how shitty the community was bashing TOTS about the paintjob and such on this mask. Now everyone wants it all of the sudden lol
Well obviously lol I just remember reading Facebook comments many months ago of people saying “Don’t waste your money, the paint will suck, the hair will suck, the eyes will suck, there won’t be any details”
Just comments like that from a few months ago that everyone is taking back now
People doubted it was from the movie mold and a few said I was a retooled Lunatic while I agree the stock paint is awful on 80% of the copies I’ve seen, the hair is fine and you’re basically paying $60 for a blank canvas from the movie mold. Artists sell blanks for $250. Imagine if you could get a blank of the H1 mask? People would pay thousands. People just like to complain and many set their expectations way too high for a mass-produced mask. Some of these overhauled copies truly look straight off the set and some stock copies really don’t look bad
