Any idea what the mask will look like for Halloween 2018?

What do you think they will base the mask off of? Any chance you think they’d use a kirk and convert it? Or maybe a NAG mask like the one used in promo shots (but different mask maybe - or maybe that is the one?? :open_mouth:)

Im kind of hoping they go for that real 1978 look. By that I mean they use or create a mask that will make you believe its the same mask Michael wore in the killings 40 years prior as Ive always thought it was a little silly in all the Halloween movies how Michael always seemed to find a different blank white face mask. I know this totally different to those sequels and are not even a part of it so hoping they change it up as they want to keep it close and authentic to the original as possible.
The only film that is as close like no other film will be to the original is Halloween II 1981. The mask in that film was literally the one from the first. Now even Halloween II is being taken out the picture, Im hoping they play on the fact that they can try to replicate the look of the original mask as best as they can and use that as the mask instead of going for a different look like every other Halloween has ever done apart from H2 1981.

Any thoughts? Feel free!

I’ve heard people who were on set of the new movie say the mask looks pretty much identical to the original H1 mask, which is fantastic to hear.

If I had to take a guess, I would say that it is probably going to be converted shat or creep. Think about it, TOTS acquired the rights to Captain Kirk more than a year ago, and it would be the easiest, most direct, and not to mention, legit way of acquiring a Kirk to use for the film. Also, it mirrors the way in which the crew on Carpenter’s original reached out to Don Post to acquire multiple masks for the 78 production.

I’m also willing to guess that TOTS is not going to give them their regular production pulls of the Kirk either, but rather pulls from the direct shat/creep master mold. This would also prove as a win for TOTS as well since they already have the masters to produce their production molds. Minimal effort, maximal pay off.

So, yeah, if I were a betting man, I would put my money on the shat being the new movie mask.

That would be the ideal scenario,but given the fact they hired a special FX guy/company there is a really good chance it is a new sculpt.

They’ve already said that it won’t be an existing mask, I believe.

And I heard TOTS got the right to the new mask, so it wouldn’t make any sense for it to be a shat/creep.

Maybe. Where is the info on it being a new sculpt? There is also the possibility that the new mask is a new design from Maybry based off of the Kirkus Kirk like the nightmare, nm78, psycho, shat, etc. I’m not saying that is mostly likely the case, I’m just saying that it is a reasonable possibility.

Also, how would TOTS’s acquirement of the license negate the probability of the mask coming from them? After all, licensing rights come often from a name from a character or franchise rather than a likeness. That isn’t to say that likeness rights are never the case, but in the case of TOTS and Myers from this film, it would make perfect sense from a legal standpoint. Look at it this way: TOTS has the sculpt, the movie uses the sculpt, TOTS then acquires the official license to use the name of the film to promote the retail version of the mask. It’s like Don Post had the original kirk, the kirk was used in the original film, but Don Post did not get the license to Myers or Halloween, ergo, we got “The Mask”. That subject is a rabbit hole that can be delved down, and I would be happy to do so, but I will kindly spare everyone here that TL;DR. I just hope this paragraph made sense.

And, yes, I am aware that an FX crew is working on the film, and for all I know, perhaps they did indeed sculpt it. But, if the piece is indeed as accurate as rumored, it is most likely some sort of recast. If not a recast, a lifecast based sculpt, or it is even possible that they have a genius level sculptor working for them that can replicate the original work from scratch. But, my reasoning tells me that it is either a kirk derived recast, or the people on set of the film do not possess the meticulous eye for accuracy that this community has become notorious for.

Let me Just stress, I’m not saying that it isn’t a new sculpt, or that my hypothesis is right. I’m just saying, based on what little evidence I have gathered, the use of the shat/creep is the highest return for the least effort, the path of least resistance, and would therefore be the most pragmatic answer, again, based on the very small amount of info I have.

Well it would be great if they would use a well known accurate indy mask,it is just not very likely.

I hope it isn’t a case of “the people on set of the film do not possess the meticulous eye for accuracy that this community has become notorious for.” and the mask is not dead on to the '78 shape.

We shall see.

Haven’t they already confirmed that one special effects dude was making the mask? Or is he just doing the special effects…

Dead on in appearance isn’t likely any way. Everyone seems to see the hero mask differently. To hope for dead on accuracy will result in disappointment in my opinion. Some say the most accuarate is the SHAT, some 75k, etc etc… and around here, if it isn’t finished by JC then just forget about it lol! To sum it up, there’s no way the new mask will please everyone. I’m just hoping for a nice likeness to the original.

I am the only one that wants to see a different style mask? It would actually make more realistic sense if the mask was different after all these years. I think a new take on the mask would be neat. I’m not saying an RZ take on the mask; just a different sculpt.
