I figured i would bump this thread! It actually turned out better than I thought it would and I would like to see some newer members and even members who have been around but never voted yet! Theres a lotta good back and forth over these pages everyone stayed civil and ALOT of good information on COVERALLS! Heres a link for a site that sells REEDS IMO there great coveralls for H1 have the pocket flap detail which is a must for some of us they offer them in navy, and charcoal!
I have a pair of Spruce Green Red Kaps (Used to have Big Macs… Sold 'em… D’oh!!!) I dyed the Red Kaps with a little bit of navy, and a little bit of gray for about 5 minutes (tops…) It gives them that happily ambiguous color. I am really pleased with them. I think it was one of the interviews with Debra Hill that says they were Green, and that was all I needed…
I used to think spruce green was the color but after owning charcoal ill never go back to spruce! Although dying spruce with blue sounds like a good idea… I might try that I like having a different selection of coveralls!
Spruce green can really mean anything up to this point. I always say dark green.lol
Did an image search on spruce and this is what came up…
TLW stated they were some kinda green so I’m sure DW took his advise and bought a pair of green coveralls.
DW even states they were green.
Steve makes a great analogy above…
It’s obvious that the heavey weathering and blood stains cause it to look charcoal.
Depending how the camera is filtered and what edition of H1 and 2 you own , the color of the coveralls will change dirastically.
In the last H1 blu ray release and the last DVD of H1, the color was presented in a warmer color and the coveralls looked rather green. In the new 35th anniversary edition of H1, Cundey added back the blue hue and made the images more colder so now the coveralls look rather blue.
When I set the camera to allow the “Hair” on my masks to look blonder, I set the camera to cold and causes the coveralls to look blue. When I want that orange Halloweeny look in the lighting, I set my camera to warm and it causes the hair look reddish/orange and yes the coveralls turn green. The same situation can be noticed in H2 since Cundey filters and sets the camera differently depending on the scenes.
I think if the poll’s two choices were “Charcoal” and “a shade of green” (rather than SPRUCE Green) then the results would be different. Because the coveralls while in my opinion WERE a dark green with some grey (possibly the weathering) I do NOT see SPRUCE green.
I agree. I own a pair of Spruce green Big Mac coveralls, and color wise, they look nothing like what was used in the film. However, if these were to be dyed right, they’d be very good.
Well I used to think green was the color but after owning charcoal they pull off green and blue depending on what lighting it’s in… I guess it is possible they could have used green since that’s what most of the people who worked on the film remember! But then again were talking about a low budget and about 35 year old film so I have my worries that the details they think they remember could be off… I was generally just asking what everyone prefers and why they prefer it? I should have put navy as a choice for the poll too! Some people here wear navy and I think they pull off a nice H1 look as well!
I think the ones you own look pretty dead on to what they actually were. To get’em accurate to the film like everyone mentioned, get them weathered with that charcoally bloody look
Yeah it would have lol! And k-man I actually got rid of my spruce ones so if the ones your referring to are these then they are charcoal… I’m in the process of adding weathering too them now it’s a tedious process lol believe it or not!
**_As do I. The two pair of Olivewood coveralls and Spruce Green ones I’ve owned have actually varied in color, perhaps due to age and such.
When I stated “just right” that really wasn’t meant as “perfect” although that’s the way it came off. I am saying they are the best color I’ve found straight from the manufacturer, not dyed or anything. THE BEST I have period are ones that I actually dyed several times with different colors to get what I was looking for. (they are shown below)
But between a newer pair of Spruce Green coveralls and an older vintage pair I owned, the older was MUCH better in color. The newer spruce green had far too much of a brightness in them not the dulled down green with a grey hue as we would expect for a part one Myers.
As far as the Olivewoods, although both varied a bit in color I found either pair to be better in color than the spruce green ones. Spruce green is closer for the H2 look in my eyes.
These are my H1 coveralls I dyed and to me they are very close. They take on more of a darker green in some light and more of a grey in other light.
It’s awesome how devoted we are all to own so many different types and colors of coveralls! And I think a good pair of coveralls all boils down to the same as masks each of us choose what color we see on the screen! I think I’m gonna try and dye a pair of spruces with a mix of charcoal and navy and see how that looks! Lol I’m now up too like 5 or 6 pairs of coveralls now haha
Yeah. Looking at the Myers costume. It looks so easy to piece together. Until the boots, coveralls and knifes come into play. Trying to find the right one of each becomes something else. Haha! The Myers mask is probably the easiest to find due to so many now to choose from.
Yeah without a doubt I’m never 100% satisfied with my coveralls! I’m always like 90% there when it comes to them! The boots and the knife I think I am pretty happy with the boots I have are Altama Vietnam jungle boots with the correct tread on the bottom and I got them for under 15$ I still would like to weather them up a little just to tweak them to what I think they would have been like in the movie! And the knife I have is a dirtknap fx 1978 Lamson from Tim miller, and I’m actually really satisfied with it! Whenever it comes to the Myers wardrobe though I consider myself an H1 purist it’s deff my favorite movie by far! I try and think about how the phelps garage mechanics coveralls would have been stained and what kind of a guy he was lol sounds super stupid I know but it’s just one of those little details I think about to try and send my costume to the next level! Like alot of us here! I always thought that seeing micheal kill off the phelps mechanic in H1 would have been a good scene to have in H1 because it would have been during the daytime, and we would have had a little more reference on his get up lol just little things like that would have been cool to have seen! It’s cool that this thread has stayed on topic and nobody got off topic And argued as well! It’s actually good reference for newer members too who are looking for coveralls or trying to decide on which color they might want! Perhaps it could be stickied mods?
