I just wanted to give everyone the heads up when shipping packages to Canada.
Like everyone else I was shipping boxes out of the country and marking them at 50.00 value and as a gift.
I was contacted by US Customs asking why since my website has my masks marked at a certain value am I making them down at 50.00? I was also asked how come most of my packages are gifts?
I was then told that if I continue to try to get around customs charges I would be investigated and fined.
From what I understand Quiet on the Set Scott got the same phone call.
Be careful how you send your out of the country packages!!!
I hate to hear that Sam, that really sucks. I would think it would be Canada complaining since they are the ones affected by it. Strange that U’S’ customs is concerned. I would think they wouldn’t care at all since it is no money out of their pocket. Tariff’s on things going out of the country are imposed by the country receiving the product, at least that’s the way I understand it. Maybe I’m mistaken
I have no idea why US Customs is involved, I assume they were contacted by Canadian customs since it is the US post office shipping it. The post office kind of warns about this stuff on the customs forms…all I know is…if it comes down to the customer having to pay a little extra to get their package or me getting fined…the customer gets to pay a bit more.
The reason I’m posting this is because I was contacted by someone that has to pay 30.00 to get his package. Not a lot I can do about it.

In any case it sucks. I guess the folks out of the country buying masks are just gonna have to step up to the plate and pay the full tariff. Dem’s de breaks!
I’ve been shipping things like this for 2 years with no problem. I was actually contacted about this about 2 months ago and have decided to lay low since then. This is just a friendly warning to everyone out there. BE CAREFUL, BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING!!
7 years ago when I was doing custom car audio and shipping heavy high end speakers around I was contacted by the Canadian customs and they tracked me all the way to Arizona and sent the police to arrest me. Long story short don’t mess with customs. There are heavy fines and jail times for those who want to test them and try to get around them.
I just checked online and with the local postmaster, this is a fact. The U.S. charges NO tariff on items leaving the U.S. through the postal service. The Tariff is charged and collected by the country where the goods are being shipped.
In my situation I messed up on a large scale that involved many particular laws being bent or broken so it was a legal mess to say the least. I live in California and was taken and questioned in Arizona. Being young I thought I could get away with things but I didn’t understand how things worked and how bad the decisions I was making at the time would affect me in a few years time. I learned the hard way and my advice to people is to follow the law. When I made my mistake I started on a small item or shipment and as time went by you think you can get away with more and more to save a few bucks. I paid for it all in the end and then some.
I apologize if I came off harsh but it’s a constant reminder for me as I grow older to make solid decisions when dealing with business and shipments in particular.
