Oh I know it wasn’t the first time Jason moved like that, for me it was more of the feeling I got out of certain scenes from the new Halloween that made me think that. It was like I got bits of Warlock in sone scenes, Castle in the others, and the PT. 4 Jason in other moments (a few of the kills, the truck stop bathroom, and the last act mainly gave me Jason vibes at times) of the movie. Perhaps it’s the way the scenes were framed, and edited together at times that did it for me? He’s definitely the best since 81. Personally I think JJC did a great job overall though.
I think that’s just a product of the story - he does do a bit of stalking (the graveyard, the gas station) but by the time he’s got his mask and gone back to town it’s dark and he’s in a target rich environment. His stalking target were the podcasters this time; but it was compressed timewise for him to get his mask rather than the object of the whole film like in H78. I wonder whether a lot of the cut scenes were pre-mask with more stalking.
One thing I did think was that he was too noisy clomping around the houses and porches, but I did like JJC’s portrayal.
Interesting question. Did Castle even take a bullet ? Tony Moran took one when he was putting his mask back on, and I know Nick didn’t do the balcony fall, so I wondered whether that stunt guy did the whole scene.
I actually found him to be nearly perfect in this film. There I’d a robotic aspect to Myers’ movements even in the original, and even though I felt Warlock was a bit robotic I loved his performance as well. Definitely get where you’re coming from but I’m just happy it wasn’t a repeat of H6. He was damn near hunched forward half the film
Totally disagree. I think this is the closest we’ve ever gotten to Castle in terms of The Shape’s movements and mannerisms since the original. I’m not sure how anyone can defend Warlock as being less robotic than James was, that guy moved like a fucking snail as much as I love him.
I always think of Castle as very lurking and creepy. Just a guy who is relaxed and confident in his movements. He conveyed threat but not in a hulking kind of way. He felt like an the perfect stalker who would lurk in the bushes. He is a bit more threatening when he’s at the top of the stairs but he still has a very relaxed body language.
The scene where castle slowly sits up has been copied a million times, but it’s there to convey threat that he can’t be killed. Also the fact that he’s in the background as a disturbing image that Laurie can’t see. Even still he isn’t jerking his head as fast as JCC is in the clip.
Warlock was like a specter, or a true ghost like shape. His movements had a lot of grace and control and he seem to glide to me - which is the opposite of robotic in my mind. He conveyed a power and menace that Castle didn’t quite have. I think people are confusing his relentless forward movement with robotic. He wasn’t jerky or awkward.
JCC was menacing, but heavy footed and moved a bit jerky/robotic for me, as I mentioned. Watch the scene where he picks up the hammer and moves into the house. It just seems stiff. Robotic to me is what you see with Arnold in the terminator. Arnold talks about moving his eyes first, and then his head to mimic how a robot would move. Just watch the car scene in Terminator one when he’s scanning for Sarah on the streets. You can kind of see that in the way JCC moved his head first and then his body.
Tony never took a bullet (sound effect for him) but when Loomis shoots again at Myers in the bedroom (that’s Nick) then it cuts to Myers falling (which is Jim) hope that makes sense? lol
I’ve seen in twice so far and didn’t really find his movements robotic, but I can see what you mean with the hammer scene. I almost feel this was written in the script to be the way it is almost to show the mechanics of his mind. He quickly glances and grabs his “tool” before using it to grab the tool he was really after. Besides that scene I didn’t feel he was too stiff but I was honestly so excited to get a new film I didn’t pay attention to every detail. I will definitely look closer on my next watch
