Did anybody else find James Jude Courtney a bit too robotic?

I’ve only seen the movie once. With that being said, I liked him. Maybe after repeat viewings that could change, but nothing about his movements particularly turned me off that one viewing.

I think it’s because he has WAAAY more screen time than Castle and Warlock so you’re gonna see aspects of him that won’t live up to your expectations.
Remember, most of the time Castle isn’t really doing anything…mostly standing there or a few split seconds of him walking, all showcased by masterful editing by Carpenter and Co.
All the destructive “action” scenes were done by Tommy.

This the reason I do not like the way Durand is showcased in H20…Too much exposure under ridiculously bright light. He probably has more screentime than any stuntman who’s portrayed the Shape.

I thought JJC’s portrayal of The Shape was pretty dang good. At times he was very Castle Esque, and others he had his own Unique Flair (Which I can appreciate as well). I didn’t personally find him to be “Robotic”, maybe I need to pay even more attention on my next viewing. …ANDY

Couldn’t disagree more. He moved smoothly, fluently and in a calculated manner. The way he stalked his prey in the bathroom scene and walked towards the old lady’s house made this clear, in the latter scene you could almost swear it was Nick himself. IMO, James was arguably the biggest reason the film was effective.

And as has been mentioned, so the moments in the original movie that are some of the most celebrated are moments where Nick himself was somewhat robotic.

Personally I liked him though I do agree he was a little robotic. Kind of reminded me of Warlock a little but I still really enjoyed his portrayal.

I agree, Its honestly really unfortunate but I am sure the people with the attitude are just seasonal and wont be around in a few months.

Couldn’t agree more man.
Comparing how Warlock walked down those stairs chasing Laurie to Nick in the original as well…he’s very stiff and robotic of all the portrayal’s…but that’s just my opinion though. Nick was absolutely terrifying rushing down those stairs!

I actually really enjoyed James’ portrayal of the shape. As some have said, he was smooth and fluid, yet at points had a Warlock vibe going on, and that’s not a bad thing at all for me at least.

Very well rounded portrayal, and definitely one of the best since the first two films, at least in my opinion. I have other favorites but he is right up there in the top 5 for me.

If some were not a fan of Warlock’s portrayal then I can see some areas in the film that might bug those folks, but for me James was great in the role.

Absolutely. Best of both worlds.

I thought he was fantastic. To me he was a nicely blended mix of the 2 Myers I love most.

If you called him Dick Castle I would have to agree, at times he was smooth like Nick and at times he mirrored some of the classic Warlock strut.

So refreshing to see the character done in such a classic way again. Hope he returns in any potential sequel.

Personally, I enjoyed JJC’s approach to Myers a lot. But that’s me.

I thought he was a great blend between both Castle and Warlock. He obviously did his homework imo.

He comes very very close to castle for me, I’m in love with JJC’s portrayal. I felt that he moved very smooth and takes the spot close behind castle for me. I actually felt dick worlock was too robotic/slow. I didnt mind him at all but the perfect example of him moving too slow (in my opinion) is when he walks down the stairs towards the end.

JJC was my favorite portrayal to date.

He had a real freaky presence to him, it felt distinct.

I have watched the new movie 6 times now and I love it. I love the atmosphere in H2 and the mask. But this movie now sits right next to “Halloween” as a fitting conclusion. Just a notch or two below the original in terms of quality. I surely hope there will be no more movies made. That said, for me, the star of the movie is equality the new/old mask and the portrayal of Michael. His movement is spot on and he brings a beautiful, cold terror to the movie.

Couldn’t agree more. I am thrilled at the box office success of this film but unfortunately that all but guarantees a sequel. If they follow the same formula they did for this film and truly make it the last confrontation I can see it working out well u just hope that it doesn’t turn into a cash grab like most of the other sequels.

And I am convinced that Castle was on set instructing him directly on a lot of his movements because after seeing the flm 3 times, if you’d have told me it was Nick walking the streets Halloween night and grabbing the hammer I would have honestly believed it.

i loved him. thought he was great. love the mask as well. some shots of him were very creepy.
