Halloween, H2, H4, H5, H6, H7, and H8 all had a similar feel to them. Then came the Rob Zombie films. I saw H1 (RZ version) a few years ago, and it was entertaining, but in my opinion did not have the same vibe the other seven films had.
Then I saw H2, and turned it off at the point in the beginning where the nurse comes in through the door and was bleeding from her chest. I knew what was to come, and it is quite honestly over the top for my taste.
I feel Rob Zombie made it a little over the top (specifically H2), and has somewhat ruined what the Halloween series has always been about. I like to think of his movies as spinoffs rather than a sequel or remake.
The main seven films all had an aspect to them of suspense (Hitchcock comes to mind), rather than just plain violence and gore.
Rob Zombie has put his signature on the series, which, in my opinion, was not a good idea at all.
Well IMO Rob Zombie did a good job in his take of the halloween series(because when you make a remake you dont want exactly like the original, trust me) he added more of a violent, sadistic feel to his version. But my problem is I just didnt feel like I was watching the original Michael Myers I grew up too. But IMO the best series was h1-h6 the feel in those films were what got me hooked in to halloween. But everyone will have different tastes and views.
Resurrection was pretty bad, but it was at least entertaining and keeps the same Michael character, unlike Rob Zombie’s films.
I don’t feel like I was watching a Halloween movie. I was watching a movie about a serial killer.
I completely agree with this. Rob Zombie’s movies made me feel gross. The main seven Halloween movies had a much better vibe.
Also, the main series portrays Michael as a mystery. Rob Zombie just makes him this strong big guy who’s out to kill people in an action-packed way like Jason.
Yeah. I liked the first one. I would have LOVED it if only it was someone other than Scout Taylor, she’s lame. But part 2 was so dreadful it’s hard to believe the two even go together, let alone were made by the same director.
Rob did what he does on all his movies and put his take on it. I love all the Halloween movies and feel this was just another view added to the mix. There are a couple others in the series that just don’t seem right in certain scenes but everyone has there own opinions. H2 on the other hand was probably the worst and should have redone before released.
def not, i liked Rob’s versions and i like all the others. some i def like more than others. i do not think one or two movies can really “ruin” anything about a movie that has already been made before it. if you did not enjoy RZ’s or pt 8 or pt 4 then just leave them out of your line up. i love em all though!
I think it made the series again to be honest they were getting sloppy with Resurrection. The Original, H2, and Rob Zombies were the best IMO. After all it broke all labor day box office records when i came out (Rob Zombie 2007)
Rob put Myers in a different light…or darkness I should say. And he didnt have the same mysterious, mystical, specter that we all know and love. He made Michael into a person, and not an unstoppable and intelligent force of nature. The look of RZ’s remakes were good. The first remake was good. And H2 was too random, and filled with drama and gore rather than the stuff that counted. Plot, consistency, and respect of the original material is what the movie lacked. It is its own movie, and should not even be connected to the first one…except the first few minutes XD. Im sure some of you would agree!
Im not gonna get too into this i’ll be brief,i look at RZ versions as a seperate part of the franchise and don’t link them to anything thats been before,it was Robs vision and his take on it and i liked both RZ H1 and H2 but the H2 story was all over the place and the film just got worse as it went on.
They’re part of a different series, so if they ruined anything, they ruined their own series.
If we have to connect them to the original series…the answer is no. Michael has gone from chasing his long lost sister, to chasing the daughter of his long lost sister (for three films), to being controlled by a cult, to being kicked out of a window by a 2nd rate rapper. Even if Zombie’s films don’t compare to the original, they still are a major step up from a good portion of the series.
And anybody who thinks Michael was exactly the same from Carpenter’s Halloween to Resurrection needs to look again. He was pretty much different in each passing sequel, and I LIKE how different Michael is in Zombie’s films. It makes it easier to separate them from the other films and enjoy them on their own. I can’t say the same for most of the other films in the series.
I wouldn’t say he ruined the series he just changed it, If anything ruined the series I would say all the sequals after three did. I mean the whole thing with the hawthorne cult and the “man in black” in H5 was just dumb. Realisticly, I dont think Mike needs any back story at all but, I did at least find Rob’s interpretation entertaining to watch and I personaly liked how angry and brutal Myers was in the Zombie movies.
Welllll I like Zombies movies alot. I think what he did was good, he took halloween and transformed it into a modern day horror film. I feel he regenerated the films and brought them back to life for the younger generation. Many people will say nothing beats the original but thats because thats what you grew up with, to me the originals are good no doubt, but me being younger they kind of lack in quality, graphics, gore etc., that i expect or am used to in todays movies. I feel zombie did good to halloween and i enjoy them.
Good to see a thread where I can finally harp on this movie a little…
Well… I don’t HATE it, but I always have to repeat that fact to myself to make sure it’s true. I didn’t watch it until recently.
Pros:
Michael’s time in Smith Grove-
In the 78 we’ve only got Sam Loomis’ word about how EVIL Mikey is. So unless your are lucky enough to have the Novelization of 78 Halloween, Rob shedding light on this was dare I say… remotely fascinating.
Malcolm McDowell, best casting you could do in this day and age, bravo.
Oh and the mask is Judith Boyfriends? cool.
CONS:
HORRIBLE use of music. Why, Why, WHY???.. is the introduction of the the Carpenter theme when little Mikey is running away from school?
HUH??!?! If could have been saved for when he kills that bully (aka kid from SPY KIDS ).
…“Love Hurts” when little Mikey is rejected by his family…Really? Almost comical…
And because of this massive begining/ Smith’s Grove story, no suspense can be achieved in Laurie’s story now… .
Danielle Harris as Annie, nice nod, but UNNECESSARY.
By the end of this movie I physically, no joke, had a head ache. Why does Michael want to get Laurie or doe he even want to kill her at all?. It’s not a ‘finish the deed’ movie, it’s explicitly shown he spares Laurie at the begining, and whenever he finally gets her (as an adult) he never really tries to kill her, in fact when Loomis shows up (sorry Malcolm but you have the most comical run ever) it seems like he’s guarding her. The ending hurt’s my head (not to mention Michael’s) head so much, can definitely tell Rob DID NOT want to do H2 (no way i’m touching that).
Disagree if you will, sorry about the long post, needed to be able to finally tell my opinion to an understanding crowd.
LAST THING: Why is there a Rob Zombie’s Halloween SPECIFIC forum/discussion?? There may as well be a H3 board, an H20 Timeline board, and a H4-6 board. Seeing a RZH1/2 in General discussion wouldn’t be that painful would it ?
BTW: I am of the CURRENT GENERATION (what are we called… the Post 9/11’ers?) I love H1, H2, H4, and H20, dislike H5-6 and Resurrection. Sorry about the long post again .
Zombie’s H2 puts Michael’s feelings towards Laurie in more perspective. Michael’s mind is torn between his desire to reunite his family and his desire to kill. Michael LOVES to kill in Zombie’s films, more so than in any film since the original, but the part of his brain that wants to reunite his family gets in the way of that when it comes to Laurie. If it seems like Michael is conflicted about killing Laurie, it’s because he IS.
