Regarding Nick Castle’s involvement with the movie, coming back after 40 years to play the Shape? I’ve seen the movie 3 times now, and apart from the “mirror image” scene I am 100% sure that was the only scene he was in as Myers, and no non Myers scene at all.
Now, don’t get me wrong, JJC was outstanding as Myers, and TBH, you can’t much difference between his version, to Nick’s version 40 years ago. However, we were told for the longest time that Nick was coming back as the Shape (for some small parts) and he was even posting pics of himself on Twitter, sitting on set for 3-4 days wearing the Myers outfit.
I feel it was just all a lie and nothing but a marketing ploy, and I kinda feel bad for JJC, as most people (non Halloween fans like us) all think it’s cool that the original guy who played Myers 40 years came back to play him again, and still did a great job as Myers.
I’ve thought about this and I really wonder if Castle wasn’t on set almost as a consultant and for blocking shots. In a way he could act out the scene like, “I’d do it like this, I’d move like this”, and JCC could watch him and sort of emulate him some.
Perhaps part of the reason JCC is moving so much like the original Myers is because the original Myers was on set to consult?
…just a theory, no basis in fact and pulled right out of my bum. But it’s what I keep coming back to to explain all the time he spent on set.
I don’t feel we were necessarily lied to and the casual fan it really makes no difference to, I was just hoping to get a couple more scenes with Nick as Myers. I do agree with what was said above. JJC did such an amazing job of emulating Castle’s movements from the original film there is no doubt in my mind Nick was on set as a sort or consultant
Awesome, thank you. Nick did tell a few people at the H40 convention that he was indeed in one scene only (mirror scene) I was kinda hoping he would be in a couple more, but like i said, JJC was awesome.
It’s all marketing. That’s the nature of the game. That’s the way life works. Hell tony Moran is banking on his few seconds as Myers. Conventions do it all the time
I don’t know if we were necessarily “lied to”, but I do wish Nick Castle was in more scenes. When I first heard he was coming back, like most people, I was really excited. At first, I thought he was going to play the shape the whole movie, except for stunt scenes where James Courtney would take over. But as time went on, and we eventually learned that simply wasn’t the case, I must admit I was disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing Nick back in the role, 40 years later.
Maybe I didn’t read enough when it was announced this movie was being made and during filming, but I was certainly under the impression that Nick Castles was cast to play the Shape for the entire movie. This got me beyond excited for the new movie.
Then, I heard that a stunt man was cast to do all the physical scenes giving NC’s age. This made total sense and I was cool with it. I was still under the impression that NC was the Shape for the majority of the movie.
Then the first trailer drops. JCC says on social media that NC is in only one scene and never walks. Now people are speculating whether JCC is only referring to the trailer or the entire movie. I start to have doubts about the idea of NC playing the Shape for the majority of this movie.
Then NC basically confirms he is just doing a cameo and confirms it’s the head tilt scene. Not gonna lie, I was pretty pissed when I heard this because we were led to believe that NC was playing the Shape.
After seeing the movie, I am more than pleased with JCC’s portrayal as MM. He did a phenomenal job and exceeded my expectation. Yes, I’m still bummed that NC only did a cameo, and let’s be honest, the head tilt scene is pretty weak. You can barely tell he’s doing the head tilt and they only show for him a few frames. I don’t know how to describe it, but I wish this scene was more pronounced, impactful and lasted a little longer.
It was disappointing in a way, but Nick’s 70-something isn’t he ? I can’t even walk like I did ten years ago, let alone 40. Perhaps it was the original intent to have him reprise his role, and they realised that because of his age he just can’t move like he used to, so JJC was drafted in. I can totally buy the theory that they kept him on as a movement coach though. To add to the theory, perhaps they didn’t make a big thing out of saying why he didn’t do more because they didn’t want to embarrass him.
My only real disappointment was they said there would be an unmasked Castle cameo and we didn’t get that. People can spectate and say it was the mechanic or other scenes, I was just hoping for a more conclusive scene.
Nah. I think he was too old and out of shape to play the part properly, and I’m glad they went with a new guy. I think it’s cool they let him be in the movie.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining at all. I was just left to believe that Nick was gonna be Myers, and or at least in more than one 5 second scene. Here is how I took it to be when it was first announced.
It was announced that Nick Castle was cast to play the Shape once again after 40 years.
JJC (a stunt man) was cast to do all the physical scenes as Myers (due to Nicks age, 71?)
Nick was still going to be the Shape for the majority of the movie. (walking, stalking, lurking, standing still)
Yes and No. I still don’t understand why NC was on set for days posting pics of himself wearing the coveralls. If think this made us believe even more that he was going to play Myers in a good few scenes.
Well-put! I was just happy he had a part in the film. My only disappointment was that there wasn’t a clear Castle cameo but I could not be happier with the performance JJC gave us. Truly, in my opinion, the absolute best Myers since the original.
I think media outlets ran harder with his reprisal than expected, honestly. It’s cool and all, but 90% of folks don’t know nor care who the original Michael was. To then, the scene is just the oh-shit moment where Laurie finally sees the Shape for the first time in 40 years.
