I started with an old fibrosport mask and made my part 3 and 4 from that. Then for each movie after 4 I form over the mask from the movie before it, somewhat. Part 5 is comes from my 4. Since the part 6 is a forming over of the mystery mask from part 3, I formed over my part 4 to make my part 6 mask. 7, 8 and 9 I get from JDF and Josh Ludemann.
I said recast earlier but that’s not right. I’m technically just forming over the mask from the previous movie. Exactly how they did it for the rest of the movies, somewhat. Part 7 is still up in the air. I think most blanks people can buy today come from part 7 but that’s another post.
I remember Goalie Terror. I remember looking at them when I was little and always wanted one. Never got one and they shut down. Always wondered what happened to them. And on the thick side, I have two Part 3 replicas - one from Crash and one from Escape Theory Studios - and the one I have from Escape Theory Studios is on the thick side, in my opinion. Can’t say about his other masks, though.
I’m admittedly ignorant to the vacuum forming process; so this question might be on the dumber side…but; would someone be able to vacuum form a mask using .250 PETG/ABS instead of the common .080 PETG or .093 ABS? Or would that be too thick to form over the mold/buck? Or do you have to use a resin like material if it’s that thick?
I think JDF offers .125" pulls but I think .250" would be pointless to vacuum form. At .125" you’re loosing some shape detail but it’s still doable. I think with .250" you would loose far too much shape detail to make it worth it. I use resin for my thicker masks like the Remake, X and FvJ.
What the heck happened to Goalie Terror anyway? I remember looking at them when I was little and they did look good. Never seen one in person, though. I remember them doing some other cool paint jobs, too, like a pumpkin paint up.
Speaking of resin, I have noticed everyone else that offers a FvJ replica uses styrene plastic and you use resin. Any difference between the two materials?
Quite a bit. One is sheet of vacuum forming plastic and the other is a 2 part polyurethane resin. Resin let’s me cast them thick whereas styrene is going to be thinner. Pretty much.
Are there any durability concerns using resin? I have one of the NECA masks in resin and while it feels very heavy and is thick I feel like it’s also brittle and will crack if it’s dropped.
DMC blocked you? if that is the case I am sure it was the female in charge of the ebay account… by the name of terra… she is kinda rude and even called someone rude for leaving negative feed back lol Hell she’s been rude to me as well.
also do you have pics of your dorito mask?
I’ve noticed some holes on my mask weren’t drilled properly for example the bottom chin hole is suppose to be closer to the right left one and the top left is suppose to be higher… it seems to be accurate but the issue is that the person who drilled it drilled it improperly and missed the middle section of where the hole was meant to be…
