Does anyone have real pics or own a David Miller hockey mask?

So freaking odd! I can’t wait for the day we have these masks all nailed down. Size, origin, all of it  so the 1st gen recast aka “88 production blanks” should be about a half inch larger? So that makes the P3/4 like, 11.75-12 in height?

So the P6/P7 buck is very likely the same buck that the production blanks derive from?

It’s all very odd because the 8 was a cast off the cooper mask (more than likely) and everyone always talks about how the 8 is the largest mask in the whole series.

I know for a fact at least one of the part 6 masks used to film a lot of scenes was much bigger than 8.5 x 10.

Strange. What did it measure?

I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to say. Did you measurements come from the inside of the mask or over the front with a cloth measuring tape?

Your measurements had to be from the inside measuring in a straight line.

Yes, they are inside measuring in a straight line

I doubt it was that big. Probably about the same as Crash’s version: about 10.25 x 7.5

The size difference looks huge but it isn’t really. Height is less than half an inch difference.

So you’re not referring to a measurement like that^, but rather on the back side?

Yes on the back side

Measuring over the front of the mask gives a much more consistent measurement. If a mask has been reshaped or warped from not being stored properly then measuring from the inside will give you a bad measurement. Measuring over the front of the mask will always give you the same measurement .

I can see how that would be the case for a very thin mask or one that was stored VERY badly (like in a hot attic), but I’ve had some of mine for a decade and they haven’t changed.

Measuring over the front is trickier because it’s harder to guarantee that different people are measuring it exactly the same way-- for example, are they holding the tape tightly over every curve, particularly the nose, or letting it hang loose? That can give different people measurements that vary widely. This is especially true if someone only has metal tape, like Dario in that picture we all have, where he’s not even making contact with the mask in some spots. But provided there is, as you say, no warping from bad storage or mishandling, its easier to measure in a straight line than over a very curved surface.

IMO measuring from the back side edge to edge would give the most accurate measurements

Measuring over the front is not trickier lol. If you’re holding the measuring tape loosely then you’re not measuring. Horizontally over the brow to the widest parts on the sides. Vertically over the nose from top to bottom.

Every time I’ve ever talked to either a screen used mask owner or someone who collects or makes these masks, they’ve always measured over the front of the mask. Never had anyone give me measurements or talk about measurements from the back until now lol.

Can’t get a perfect measurement because the straps are in the way, but my FGM part 6 comes to about 11.6 height by 11.8 width on the front

Is the majority opinion for the Roy blank still clear plastic? I know DMC has said the mask was on white ABS with the inside painted matte black so the lights from filming would stop reflecting into the actors eyes. But I also remember the general feeling was the mask was clear plastic.

I don’t think anyone can know for sure.

I’ve think we’ve mislabeled the mystery mask for far too long. We know everything about that mask, it’s no mystery. The Roy mask is the real mystery mask. We seem to know so little about it compared to the rest of them.

Also don’t forget the grave scene mask. I know it was the first scene & they don’t always shoot scenes in order, but I was wondering if that mask was one that was supposed to be made of fiberglass? Did they shoot any scenes with the fiberglass masks if they were used? Man what would’nt I give to see the original grave mask even in just pictures

There are still a few mysteries.

The earliest it can be traced back to is 1985 in a Part V television spot. Yet it’s possibly from 1982. Yet it’s possibly the window scene mask; or not?

The Part V masks are the biggest mystery because, unlike the other movie masks, we have no idea what they were made of or how they were painted. Why are there gray blue scuffs? Is that primer or the color of the plastic? No one will know until the actual masks pop up.

Per my source, there weren’t any fiberglass masks made for this film, which contradicts what David said.

As Jo said, it’s likely we won’t know until the original comes up. But the weathering on portions of the mask plus Jason’s source showing what appears to be a white blank point to yes. I asked Johnny Hock a few questions so I’m waiting on a response!
