To me, in a Halloween movie, the mask is everything. The movie can otherwise be bad, but if the mask is good, then it’s not THAT bad to me. On the flipside, the movie can be good, but if the mask sucks, then I don’t like the film. These are slasher movies, and in a slasher movie you want an intimidating villain, a guy that you’re like “oh shit, I’d be terrified to come across this guy at night”. It’s not so much size or build, it’s the way the villain looks. Freddy Kruger has always been on the shorter side, heck Chucky is the size of a toy, but both are scary and intimidating as hell when you watch those films (at least the originals, maybe a couple of sequels). But Michael in H4 with that mask, it’s like…it’s so stupid. He looks silly, like you wanna make fun of him. It’s not scary at all and honestly it ruins the film for me. Everyone always speaks so highly of H4, and I admit, quality wise, it’s definitely one of the better ones, Danielle Harris does a fantastic job, not just “for her age”, but I mean in general she does great. And the rest of the cast does a great job as well. But that mask…I can’t get past it. It’s so stupid. It really makes me think how great H4 would be to me if the mask was like it was in the first two films. Was it really that hard to get a good mask? H5 had the same problem, but H5 sucks to begin with. I see a great movie in H4, well maybe not a “great” movie, but a movie that could stand proud with the other good ones in the series. But all I see is a stupid mask. do I think it’s one of the better filsm in the franchise? Well…as it stands I put it at #6 in my ranking, so it’s directly middle of the road for me. But give Michael a mask that’s in line with the first two films, and it probably becomes top 3 or 4.

I used to share that opinion, but after rewatching h4 a few times I started to appreciate the mask a bit. Now not because it’s a scary or intimidating mask, but because its just kinda cool.

They do use a mask with more of an H1 vibe in a couple of places, except in the school the mask colours are all wrong. Then it looks like they use one just before Kelly Meeker gets killed. But yeah, I remember feeling quite let down with the actual movie mask after seeing the cover mask on the poster.

When I first watched H4 I thought the same thing. I was really disappointing in the mask. But in time it kind of grew on me. It’s my 3rd favorite out of them all after H1 and H2. You want to talk about stupid… H5 is all I have to say. Now that’s stupid.
I actually really like it. It’s definitely different, but there’s something extra creepy about how ‘peaceful’ (for lack of a better word) he looks. Worst mask for me goes straight to Resurrection.

I don’t think H4 is that great. The shotgun kill is cool, but other then that he looks very silly in most scenes and H5 negated the ending so it has no impact anymore. I would have actually been alright with the hospital gown and bandage look for most of the movie as that would have been more interesting to me.

They should have done more to make it look like the original, looks like they bought a cheap mask off eBay the day it started shooting and called it good. Did they even try? (yes I know eBay wasn’t around in 88)
Absolutely. The mask in Halloween 4 completed ruined the film for me, along w/ the shoulder pads and just the overall performance of Wilbur as the Shape. I kind of have the opposite problem w/ Halloween 2018. LOVE the mask but don’t think that highly of the film.

I think the way GPW looks and moves as Myers ruins it more for me, never been a fan of his interpretation. The H4 mask is creepy in it’s own right and it has Kirk lineage, which is cool.
No sir, it did not. I love H4, it’s my third favorite movie in the franchise, and I love the mask too, in fact it’s my second favorite mask in the franchise. At first, I wasn’t crazy about the mask either, but the thing about the H4 mask is people will just glance at it and say ,“Oh, that looks so stupid” but if you REALLY take the time to actually look at it, you’ll find that is actually, in my honest opinion, the creepiest mask Michael has ever worn. The reason? Because it perfectly captures everything about Michael. Out of all the masks, it is by far the most blank and emotionless, complete with the solid black eyes. The best example of this in the movie is the scene where it shows a closeup of Michael before he kills Bucky at the electricity station. It looks downright terrifying in that shot with the lighting especially.
I like the h4 mask a lot, but the shoulder pads and how gpw stood took away from it for me. And weirdly enough I like paul’s copy in current condition more than the hero, it just looks really damn creepy

I didn’t like the mask at all. The combination of the silly expression on the mask and Wilbur’s slouch, it just killed the vibe for me.
