Don Post The Mask What to do

I can make out the 1986 on the side with the copyright c. its all pretty faint the ma in china is very visible.

Marcus,
I rather not get into it as I can see you are on your way to getting defensive as usual.
Lets not ruin the thread.

TheShape999,
Glad we got that sorted. Not that it fully mattered but nice to fully identify what you have.
Have to wonder why it was painted. Though it was probably a kid trying to make it look better. Who knows.
It may very help help it last longer though. Usually these things melt away or crack and get brittle in many areas.
Keep it how it is man. The shape of it is really good. usually these thinner masks are hard to get shaped right.

Fantastic mask!

Thanks guys. Can’t believe I never really noticed it. I just thought it looked like the 86’ and dug it. It seemed to be in to nice of shape to be too old I had the dp 04’ and it turned into yoda and dry rotted by 2010. This latex feels pretty nice not as soft as my other ol dp mask but no brittle by any means.
So you guys think having one of the artists on here repaint would be a bad move?

Only thing I thing you might be able to do is soak it in water and rub it to remove the paint reveling the original paint underneath. But I would be careful doing so and make sure you dry it off completely then powder it.
I would be very careful, though you may want to ask someone who does overhauls like JC on how to go about it.
It may not be beneficial doing anything at all. I guess it would depend on the condition of the mask.

Well its already been painted so i think getting it tidied up by an artist would be a cool idea

Not an expert at all by all means :exclamation: lol
That’s definetly an 86 for sure. Everything matches up with mine.
It’s a shame it was repainted since the hair looks to be in great condition.

Yeah having confirmation of it being the 86’ is sweet but upsetting since it has this paint on it. Hopefully someone can give an idea or offer their services in removing the paint. Like I said I knew it looked like the 86’ but auction said something different and honestly never really looked at the stamping on the back that well. And the latex seems to be in great shape for however old this mask is as well as the hair like you sated kaizu. So i guess i just thought it was some type of reissued piece especially since I got it cheap. I dig it as is and if it has to stay painted lie it is so be it. But am hoping something can be done to take it to its original state.

Might be worth asking Justin. After all he did such a great job painting those NO Death masks to look like DP85/86 masks he could probably give you an original looking paint job. If not Justin maybe QUOTS since Mike’s SSN H20 V1 mask that Scott did up has a 85/86 vibe with the paint

Great score I must say. Dont mean to toot my own horn here, But I specialize in mask and prop restoration. If you want to get him fixed up. By all means drop me a PM.

I’m definitely no expert but it could be Plasti-Kote spray paint, I used a cream one to paint up my cheapo Chinese hockey mask.

I just caught your question about my 86 post. They were only phone pics, but I’ll try and post up some good quality shots later today or tomorrow.

Alright, this will be a little pic heavy, but I finally got some shots up with a real camera. No mood lighting, just taken to show the detail. I never did a thing to mine, meaning no painting, no hair color, etc. It looks a little yellow in some shots, but that is just the light in my hallway. It is still vary stark white. So for comparison’s sake, here’s my previously identified DPTM:

Man that look so different than mine. The shape of the entire face is so different.
My pictures also make it look super White but it actually has a Yellow ting to it.

Keep in mind that it is not just hanging on my hand. I have a white and a black cotton t-shirt (2 shirts) gently stuffed inside just to fill it out. Not stretching it out, but just giving it a slightly filled out shape. That may account for some of the differences I suppose.

I have mine stuffed with plastic bags and it’s pretty stuffed. Though I shaped it with my hands by squeezing the head a bit to give it more of a Kirk look. Also added the hair curl to accompany that feature.
Does yours feel like the latex is a bit ‘spongy’ if you pinch it ? I noticed mine started doing that a few years back.

Mine will need fixing soon though. The mouth ‘slit’ is open and one corner of the mouth has a slight rip.

So far, I don’t have any of those issues with mine. No sponginess, no tears, but probably only a matter of time. I guess they all start to decay eventually, right?

Oh they will !
I had one yeeeeears ago that I found melted to itself when the year before it was fine.

I wonder if the mold is still around somewhere.
Would be cool to get the 86’ cast again with better material and thicker …

TOTS !!!

Are they even allowed to make “The Mask” sculpt after the lawsuit with Cinema Secrets?

Thanks for sharing your pics fellas. I think iI knew mine was an 86’ in my head but being that i can barely make out the stamping on the back and that auction had it as an 03’ and I really think the condition is amazing seems like it was made recently. other than a few spots misshaped and that damn paint on it. Speaking of snap mine has a slim look to it when not stuffed. No sponginess yet, one of my other old dp masks has that happening though.
this is what was in my mind as the myers mask when I was a youngster considering they were all per the neighborhood and we wore and played with them. So it is a nice nostalgic mask to own.
