Ever get judged for collecting Myers masks??

Well apparently my girlfriend left me because of my creepy collection of Myers masks and other masks. Hmm…i know for fact this the reason because before she ever even laid her eyes on my masks we were doing great. Very upsetting…but i WILL NOT stop collecting Myers masks and my love for all things Myers and Halloween.

If that was the case…don’t need her anyways!

I’ve been judged before as well! By my mother in law. She tried telling me hobbies are normal, but this is just creepy. Told me there was something wrong with me. I told her since she doesn’t live in my household, she has no say in what I do.

My aunt and mother seem to think they’re going to turn me into a murdering psychopath.

I’m sorry to hear people are being judged for this. Hasn’t really happened to me. No girl other than my mom has ever laid eyes on my masks though. The only problems I’ve had are spending money on it that I don’t necessarily have. Between that and tattoos, I racked up a bit of a credit card debt. A friend/family member or two has looked at me funny when I talk about collecting them, but as far as I can tell, no one has passed any judgment. My best friend thinks they’re really cool. I just need to make sure I can afford things when it’s time to buy.

No one can judge me, if no one knows… :smiling_imp:

Yeah, all the time. Friends, family, etc. There was one time (about 10 or so years ago) that my mom saw my collection, which until then was a secret (my family is Catholic and heavily involved in the church). She took everything I had- Masks, expensive and rare Chucky dolls, my book props, my hand made props, a few minor screen used props and set it on fire in our back yard, destroying all of it. She then accused me of being a “sinner” and a “psychopath” and forced me to go to a counselor for the next 3 years. Oh, and another time my father and I planned on going to HorrorHound the year JLC went, but my mom found out, found my ticket confirmation, ripped it up and forbade me to go.

I brought chicks over in the past and they were creeped out, but it was never an issue. This was when I was released and living in a room in my parents basement. I had like a wicker bench that was my parents and had these Halloween prop legs that were cut off at the waist with these bloody foam intestines spilling out and I just had it sitting in the chair, legs crossed like it was completely casual

Well that’s a shame. My wife and I are weekly church goers to a Catholic church in our area. We take our three kids of course and one of them is about to go through their first communion in May…I have a closet full of monsters and I just introduced my 8 year old to Friday the 13th Jason Takes Manhattan (starting slow lol) just a couple months ago…some people take things too seriously unfortunately.

You secretly bought screenused props and expensive Chucky dolls when you were 8 years old? Or is your age not accurate? Regardless, you secretly built a horror collection while living with your parents?

I can’t recall ever being judged publicly. Most of the people I hang out with think it’s cool. Either that, or I’m too dense to notice.

I used to be judged for having so many. Because apparently they all look the same and 1 is enough in many peoples eyes.
Since I was a kid I’ve been into all this horror buisness. I had the coolest parents who let me be who I am. They didnt care that I wanted to wear all black, wear combat boots, decorate my room with explict band posters, have long weired shaved head hairstyles. My mom did kinda freak out when she saw my first tattoo, I just casually sat down next to her on the couch with a sleeveless shirt on and waited for her to notice. She kinda freaked but got over it. (If she could only see me now lol) Im still to this day into all the things I was when I was younger, Im sure I get judged when I go out with my kids but I just dont care, they dont know me, my kids dont judge me at all. They know me and my likes and are totally cool with it, and thats all that matters.
When I have friends over, they dig looking at the jason and myers masks, want to try on the freddy glove etc…some folks just arent into it and rather collect wine or fancy disney figures or whatever. Thats cool, like what you want, Id never judge, unless your thing is collecting dildos or child porn…then Id have to respectfully kick them between the legs or worse lol but to each their own I guess.
All in all, don’t be embarrassed of what you like or what you like to collect. You like it and find it interesting that’s all that matters. If they give you shit, then what kind of “friend” or family member are they?

That’s just awful, man. At least my friends and family respect that I enjoy what I enjoy, even if some of them don’t approve. Couldn’t imagine any of them just grabbing my stuff and burning it. Especially because I know they wouldn’t like me hounding them daily about paying me the 2 Grand in what my collection is worth.

As far as I can tell, Kurst’s response is relevant. He didn’t get into any imagery…where are you seeing the imagery? All he mentioned was that no girl he has dated had a huge problem with his Myers collection, not enough to give him the cold shoulder over it. And that’s how it should be (I wouldn’t judge a girl just because she collected something I thought was silly, if it was important to her). If someone likes you (friend/romantic/family, whatever), they can have their opinions which may differ from yours, but ultimately what you choose to spend your money on and decorate your place with is your own choice. And I believe that those close to us should at least have some appreciation for our hobbies, whatever they may be (and collecting horror memorabilia doesn’t make you a bad person at all!). I think that’s the message everyone on here would agree with. Some have had problems with others judging them regarding their collections, some haven’t. It’s normal that people would find it strange though, that’s sort of what I would expect. It’s sort of like tattoos though. If a person doesn’t like me having tattoos enough for it to be an issue, then I know they aren’t the right person.

Damn. Really sorry that happened. My wife and close family think my collection is cool. I don’t tell too many people about my collection, not because I’m embarrassed but because it’s really not anyone’s business. I’m sure maybe some people who know about it may think it’s weird but they definitely don’t say anything to me about it lol.

His story is a little confusing that the site says he is 18 and this allededly happened 10 years ago as someone already mentioned…but I could only see some crazy religious mother doing something like that. When I lived with my parents, I couldn’t afford stuff like this.

It’s possible he’s telling the truth. I started collecting as a kid. Got my first Myers mask at Seven. He did say him and his dad had tickets to that convention so it’s possible his dad bought the horror stuff for him.

I’m 19 next month. I was probably about 10 when the first incident I described happened. That’s why I said “10 or so years” because it’s been so long that I can’t remember EXACTLY how long ago it was. Just an estimate. Do keep in mind that expensive is a relative term. $100 is much more money to a 10 than a 24 year old. As for the props, my dad helped me purchase/store them. The “rare” Chucky doll was the Glen by Spencer’s. They sell for upwards of $300 now and I had a couple of them (saved my money as a kid). Also the screen used prop I had was a set of screen used license plates from RZ’s Halloween. Just to clear some stuff up for anyone lol.

Oh yes. My friends all tell me its weird. But at the same time every halloween guess who they call asking if they can use one of my masks for their costume. Lol ha. My reply is always no since it’s so weird. But hey i dont collect for others. I do it because i enjoy it and love the movie.

I totally feel the same way bro, how awesome it must be to have a girlfriend who is into the Myers scene as much as we can be, maybe one day I’ll find a girl like that (sigh) lol.
Anyways I get my fair share of judgement from friends and family about my collecting. I find it funny though as I have plenty of tattoos, ( even have horns tattooed on my head :smiling_imp:) which doesn’t seem to bother them, that is until the topic of my collecting comes up, then all of a sudden it’s judgement day for me and I’m labeled a wierdo

Your dad da real mvp.
