yea im trying not to be down on it yet but my first impression is rob zombie remake mask. a bit disappointing after all the talk of going back to the original mask. I for one was willing to suspend the fact of latex shelf life and assume Michael just took good care of the mask over the years. im hoping this poster isnt what the mask turns out to be.
I’m glad we don’t see everything on the poster, I wanted to see the mask when watching the movie before seeing pictures of it but to do that I would have to avoid going on the internet until the movie premiered (its all over the internet). As for my thoughts on the mask I’m not really digging the wrinkles, they remind me of the mask in Halloween Reflections which I really didn’t like although I do prefer fake wrinkles instead of fake cracks.
Will we see a Haddonfield Memorial Hospital in the movie. So far we know there will be a resque squad/ paramedics from HMH.
Myers house
Myers driving the flat black Dodge Coronet (for which I think suits him perfectly)
Does Myers ditch the mask in 78 too a certain hiding place.
What if this isn’t the same mask but one just like it back in the day but in terrible shape. Lets say The Hardware Store is a broken down old building with still a lot of goods in the basement and Myers gets it there. In other words a whole box of them tucked under a table beside a box of old mouse traps still in mint condition. (in the myers world these masks were popular like ghostface masks )
Will we get a good look at Smiths Grove Sanitarium.
There is only one mask that would of made me excited to see again on screen and that is an actual 75 Kirk. We’ve seen enough replicas over the years to understand better than anyone that you simply can’t replicate the real deal to a full extent. Just knowing it was a real Kirk would be amazing. Especially with Nick back in the mix. Even if the movie tanks I would still enjoy it for that reason alone.
I’m a huge Alien fan as well and when Prometheus got announced back in 2011 I was over the moon. Ridley Scott is going to direct another Alien movie…WHAT!!! The trailer was outstanding and then the movie rolls out and basically fell on its face minus some great special effects and set designs, Covenant was even worse.
Point being, you can’t go home again.
I really like the sculpt for this mask, as well as the eye cuts. When I look at it, it reminds me of the original. The only thing I would change, is the overboard wrinkles. Now listen, I get that all those wrinkles and damage on the mask isn’t unrealistic for a 40 year old mask, especially a mask being affiliated with Michael Myers, it makes perfect sense that it’s in that condition. But the general consensus for us fans being obsessed with the original mask, is it’s haunting subtlety, it’s blank white features. And I think that’s what a lot of people here were hoping for that feel from the original, and in my opinion, they should have tried to keep that aspect, with more subtle damages, to achieve that original mask feel. But realistically, the mask would look like how it does.
I think people are jumping the gun a bit here. I think it looks perfect considering the context of the film. It’s a GREAT mask for that. If they said they were doing a carbon copy of the mask - then I could understand why people would be devastated. But we’ve known for months that it wasn’t the case. It still has a lot of similarities to the H1 under all of the ageing. I personally don’t think those are “wrinkles” and from what I’ve heard of where it’s been and how he acquired it, I definitely think it’s gone through some things.
I get that everybody wants an EXACT replica of the H1 mask. But that was never going to happen with this film unless it was taking place in 78. I think this is the best they could come up with, honestly. They could have gone a lot further, and from what the TOTS president is saying is that the poster does not do the mask justice, that it’s features are heavily exaggerated in the poster, and that it looks really badass on screen. Even from what we saw of that little blurry image of Michael, you can tell that the mask isn’t a dull grey like the poster is representing it like, it’s actually pretty beige, tan. I completely respect that people are disappointed, that is everyone’s right. But, to me, it just seems like people were asking for something they were never going to get, and that the creators themselves said exactly what the mask would look like pretty much, for months. That’s the kind of thing that is going to make this film a disappointment for some, going into it with expectations of how the mask should look, how the movie should play out, this and that. If you go into everything with an open mind, you guys may be pleasantly surprised, or severely disappointed. I don’t know, I just personally think that the mask looks the closest to the original mask since H2, and that’s quite an achievement. We’ve had some shitty masks in the series, and even WITH all of the detailing, you can clearly see the essence of the original mask there. Who knows, though. I could be wrong. It could end up looking RIDICULOUS. Either way, we’ll have a teaser trailer this week most likely, and we’ll see the mask in full glory at and after SDCC, which the president of TOTS confirmed.
Good post. Although we all may be jumping the gun prematurely, since it’s just one shot, many of us were hoping they’d want to harken back to what made the mask what it was to begin with. Featureless, soulless, a blank canvas with no expression whatsoever. And it may turn out to still be that in the end, but the creases and the weathering actually creates an exaggerated look and it might not be what it really needs.
I can understand that. We all look at the H1 different. I just know that for this poster everything is stylized to prove a point. That it’s 40 years later. I definitely think on screen those features in the mask won’t be as prominent. I respect that opinion though. I just think that expecting a blank soulless featureless face is hard to ask for because in my opinion H1 was exactly that, but it also wasn’t if you get what I mean. It did have an expression, it was blank but it did have definition. I think the soullessness mostly has to do with the inability to see the eyes for most of the film. I mean, hey, a blank mask is pretty much H4 and that was atrocious. So, I don’t know - I think we still have to just wait and see!
I’m super excited about this movie as you can tell. For a while I was drowning in a crap hole with all that RZ stuff that literally almost ruined Michael Myers and what he stood for too be scary and not a 7 foot tall hippie on steroids. I’m so happy that I can say we got back the real deal, where it all started. I’m sure the new movie is gonna be awesome and hell if isn’t at least it will be better than that RZ stuff we had too go through.
Speaking of RZ Halloween anybody notice that when you look up HALLOWEEN 2018 on Google, the Cast will pop up and guess who is listed too be apart of the new movie…Scotty Taylor Compton as Laurie Strode along the Scream Queen herself. WTF.The worst Laurie Strode of all time. Even Jamie Lee Curtis didn’t like her performance and that’s saying something coming from the Scream Queen herself.
Also keep in mind, the color of the mask on that poster is completely wrong. It’s not representative of the mask we’ll be seeing in terms of color at all. Again, it’s a very stylized poster.
Tannish is the wrong word, it’s more of a just like… a cream color I guess from what I could tell from that blurry picture. It’s still pretty white but nowhere near Halloween 4 white where it has no dimension lmfaoo you can tell it’s aged a bit just by it’s color though.
Mask aside, Donald pleasence was the voice for Michael building him up to mythic status. As great as the Hero Mask and Nick were at creating the shape, it was Donald who set the stage with his incredible delivery. Without him, it’s just another slasher flick. I at least hope this new one is watchable but everything after Halloween 2 has been a train wreck IMO.
One of the previous posters nailed it. Lightning in a bottle and that goes for the entire movie, not just the mask.
