It’s going to be hard to do!! I think that unless we have the actual Halloween mask, we will forever be in search of the next best thing!!

Muzz is correct. Mayhem has some shots of the H78 that could end this thread in one shot. And one of the best KH’s I’ve seen, belongs to Michael Lantern. But I still stand by my words on the KH as a whole.

I think Ken is a great artist, but in a hobby like this, there are 2 kinds of artists.

  1. The guy who nails it the first time and can’t make it any better in their subsiquent attemps.

  2. The guy that can keep setting the bar higher with each subsiquent attempt.

KH falls into catagory number one with his “rare” mask and the latter attemps with the KH/DW and the latest KHSLE. Nik falls into catagory number two, with his constant improvements on his already stellar work.

Both men are a great asset to the hobby, but they are most certainly in 2 seperate catagories.

Jon the pics look amazing!! You stuffed it just right and I think it looks pretty damn close to the '78 Hero. Love seeing shots like these thanks for posting.

This picture of the H78 is actually one of Hallows photos. It’s in the gallery. They did a great job editing this photo to look vintage and screen worn. That pic of that Halloween poster had me fooled, that’s for sure. :laughing:

I think the db2 is the best we have seen. Again it is a very large mask compared to the kirk. I know Dennis intended to make it a display only mask but a simple cast of it would’ve made it the perfect size so we could wear em perfectly. I’m with Jon when I continue to hunt for the perfect h1 mask. The h78 is a great mask and I own one and love it and I also own and love the psycho. I had a copy that I sold only to come back to the psycho in the long run. I really look forward to the new nightowl h1 mask.

I really respect all of the artists who strive to make better masks and in the last 2 years things have gotten really interesting. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next 2 years going forward.

I feel you Jon. In the seven yrs I’ve been collecting Myers masks, and after many attempts I can finally say I found my Holy Grail H1 mask. Like Benny said, it might not be 100%, but it definitely suits my taste and ends my search for a H1 mask. My Db2 Kirk converted by Colin.

I agree with Benny! H2 Myers has already been covered with the KH’s.
A few of the converted DB2’s and early NO NMM78’s have always suited my H1 taste as well. :sunglasses:

I feel that there never will be a 100% accurate mask.

There’s just too much happening in photos that are over 30 years old.

Lighting, angle, shape of the Castle’s head… etc…

Just too many variances to ever have a 100% copy.

not 100% true. If anyone clay presses a real kirk and does a damn good job, or spends a really long time with a real kirk side by side as reference then its totally possible to achieve the perfect h1 look. Thats what dennis beckstrom did, he sculpted his over 2 years with a real kirk as reference.

the only task to achieve after that is getting the perfect paint job and that means the right flesh tones and weathering. But screen caps can help with this too.


for me looking at the medleys kirk, and the kirks in the gallery, im DBII all the way and converted colin mayne dbII for h1. Just a personal preference. The only part of the DBII I dislike is how new the paint looks. If it were painted to look more accurate to a 75 kirk it would be perfect.

I’ve seen alot of pics of this, back when Colin and I spoke daily he showed me.
I think his work is great and the sculpt is great. (looks better as a kirk IMO)
