Well I still think Laurie should die saving the other two. I don’t want Michael dying. The whole point of the open ended finish was like the first one, to walk out of the theater looking over your shoulder. Evil wins in real horror in one form or another. “Closure” that many seem to want just takes the fear out of it. I’ll go watch one of those CGI laden super hero movies if I want no fear and a happy ending(or a whore house) lmao.
Yeah but the “open ended” horror ending has been done so much that now the only think anyone will think is, “Looks like there will be a sequel”. When HALLOWEEN 1978 came out, the open ended ending was shocking and scary because it hadn’t really been done before. But now every slasher has open ended endings and now it just screams “SEQUEL!”
They should use the Halloween Returns ending. Very well written.

If they kill off Michael Myers, the reason there have been all the Halloween movies made since 1978 is not the same. Wiping out 40 years of the history is not enough, let’s kill MM too. Then they better reshoot, if MM dies in the first cut. It is like killing the father of modern American horror! When the "we want to make him human " line came out, my radar when up. It was the first sign. An Iconic figure that has been around 40 years should not have a “final”. Two core things that must happen first for real fans to enjoy and love the movie. The mask has to be great and Michael has to survive someway or it is unknown if he did. JLC has wanted him dead since H2 and JC since H1. JLC was upset again cause she was not allowed to kill him in H2O. The fans and the money that could be made have kept MM alive in movie land and brought him back, “you can’t kill the boogie man” This is like the supreme law of Halloween. The great people involved in this movie do not plan to star or produce another MM movie after making what they think will be a hit. No matter how it ends, a movie ending is what you walk out the door with on your mind. The backlash of Michael’s definite death would hurt the box office and fans. There is a strange emotional attachment to Michael Myers fans have developed over 40 years. Think about the mask hobby numbers and the number of fan made movies and all the other products. Just let him disappear into the unknown with respect and mystery. Michael Myer’s legend is the Santa Claus of horror. “you can’t kill the boogie man” and you don’t kill the legend of Santa Claus. Let old and new fans exit the theater like I and my friends did 40 years ago, afraid of MM was around every corner and every light pole on the way to our cars. If not, we may have to forget THIS ONE someday like they did to the great Halloween 2 and the rest. I am excited about this new film, the writers and the actors in it. For 40 years, “pure evil” and the that “you can’t kill the boogie man” worked, but now this gets tossed out the window? It is the basis of The Shape, a rule. Exactly! So many young people haven’t even seen a Halloween movie worth seeing in a theater. I can’t call on the original slasher franchise to be held hostage by its copycats to get a Christmas gift ending. To be perfectly honest I couldn’t take any Halloween movie seriously after the original. That being said I still like Halloween 2 In a lighter sense, but after that it just went off the rails for me. I can’t wait to hear the music pumping in my ears at the theater like 40 years ago!

Oh god. Michael has been killed in EVERY sequel besides the original and H5. He always returns. Y’all will be fine. These think pieces are not needed.
By the way, part of the apparent issue with this ending is that it was open ended and it just seemed like it ends with no conclusion. So, I’m pretty sure he’s either going to die or they are going to allude to it very hard with possibility for a sequel which I doubt Blumhouse will do. They’ve been marketing this as the final HALLOWEEN film and casual fans will be very upset if it’s not. Me? I don’t care either way. If he dies and the story is told great, then fine. If he survives and the story is told great, then fine.

I just said every fan always wanted a great mask in another Halloween movie. If a person agrees with anyone it is something they have common, only you define what you feel as a fan. I was age 22 in 1978 and sitting in a packed theater of screaming fans with my date, so no I am not 12.
For the people saying this is ambiguous, I think you’re missing the point. I think the main character arc for Laurie will be the fact she’s paranoid. She may seem confident and killer in the trailer, but deep down, she’s still dreading the day he returns. She’ll be over-protective towards her daughter/granddaughter, she’ll be anxious, etc.
The ending shows that the paranoia that her mom had, waiting for Michael to return, has now gone to Karen and Allyson.

Just the right age to see it in the theater. Many younger people have seen the follow ups to H78 and regard them as pretty good simply because they were young. I know exactly what you meant by a real fan:)

I think they are all just paranoid, cause they are not sure if this installment will stick or not, and this remade sequel will either be remade again or thrown out all together down the road…
