I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time…
The original Halloween can NEVER be topped and should be put on a pedestal high above anyones grasp…with that said…
I for one did appreciate the RZ Halloween…There were some things that could have been left out…We didn’t need a long drawn out Michael Myers backstory or him speaking at all but I did like the Asylum parts and how he got The Mask, the kill scenes were done well and the costume looked good…
RZ Halloween 2…Eh…The opening scene is great, if they would have stayed with that feel and scenery then it could have turned out to be a decent movie…Pale white horse=NO, More young Michael Myers (if you have to recast then don’t do it at all) with the “Kill for Mommy”=NO, Dr. Loomis being a TOTAL prick with ZERO regard for the safety of the people that he seemed to care so much for in the first one=NO ( I don’t care if that was a logical step someone COULD take with fame and fortune, that was a bad bad idea, Dr. Loomis is a beloved character), Laurie Strode (Myers) going totally crazy and picking up where her brother left off=NO (I can totally see Laurie having some issues after almost being killed by a Psychopath but the direction in this film was poor)…I did like how Michael Myers was “surviving” on the land and that his Mask was beaten up but that Mask is his “real” face and I would think that he would have tried to find a replacement…
So my question is…with the recent news that Halloween 3D is being put on the back burner or potentially scrapped…Should the RZ movies which I like to look at as “out of continuity” or an “elseworlds” type tale, end with RZ Halloween 2, do a Halloween 3D (maybe having the events that took place in RZ Halloween 2 be a dream and have Laurie still in the hospital suffering nightmares like she woke up from at the end of the opening sequence in RZ Halloween 2), Reboot the entire franchise and stay closer to the John Carpenter vision, or just end the whole entire thing and keep watching the ones we love on DVD??
I’m always up for watching a new Halloween, it’s my favorite Slasher film franchise and it sucks to think that they might not ever make another one…Maybe the studio (highly unlikely) will learn from Halloween: Resurrection and RZ Halloween II and give us the fans some really great Halloween movies that our kids will be talking about when they’re our age??
IMO i think Halloween should have been over with after H2 (1981) … But i still like watching the sequels from time to time… I wish John and Debra directed all of them, i know John only wrote the script in H2, but it still feels like the same movie.
As for ending it, i think they will make this last one and call it quits for a few years atleast…
H1 and H2 are the best…I do enjoy 4 and 5 and even 6 and 7 but nothing compares to the original two! I think they will make one more then stop for a few years as well…
Halloween 3D = NO! we don’t need a michael myers 3d movie it takes away from the movie. Personally I think they should get a great writer and director and actors for the new movie and continue from Halloween: Resurection and have some flashbacks from the other movies like Friday the 13th did and start off from there and just start off the original series and bring our old Myers back and conncect all of the movies, and alos have some ideas from Rob Zombie’s movies but keep it with the old theme. I mean hardly any body is like 6’7 we Michael Myers fans in this comunity like to play the part and the same height not some giant. but that’s just my opinion
I liked RZ’s Halloween 2007, 2009 was a let down for me. I liked the look of Michael it showed how he evolved but the whole dreams and white horse thing threw it off and it made it kinda cheesy and not real at all. The kills were brutal and liked that part but thats it… Halloween 3D hell no it will make the franchise a flop. I hate 3D and will never like it half the stuff looks so fake its ridiculous until they make 3D perfect the it will be no good. The best 3D movie was Avatar. Look at Piranha 3D garbage lol its a joke haha, Final Destination 3D pathetic IMO, and I’m disappointed they are making Saw 3D for the last and final saw I think it will break the saw franchise it all looks so fake to me. Thats just my opinion and everytime I hear or see 3D I get made and rant and rave how I can’t stand it. I think if they are gonna make Halloween 3 it should not be 3D I dont care who makes it just not 3D!!!
Well, the biggest problem i had with RZ’s H2 is the fact that at the end they implied that Michael was really dead and that Laurie Strode would take up Michael’s mantel as a masked serial killer, thus the appearance of the mother and white horse, which is supposed to symbolize uncontrollable rage. I thought that was a stupid direction to take the series. I wouldn’t have a problem with a 3rd movie, in fact I’d love one, but i want it to reconnect with what Halloween is about, Michael killing people in creative ways, with the endgame being him trying to kill off his relatives, or something similar.
Personally, the last Halloween for me was 6… it died with Donald. A Halloween movie without him is just…
I do feel that there is still potential for a great continuation of the franchise, but we’ve yet to see that. I thought H20 and Resurrection were too “teen slasher”. They didn’t have the right feel or anything. At least 6 had amazing atmosphere and felt like a Halloween. And there were no rappers in it to lure in stupid ass people who know nothing about the series. Pisses me off so damn much! Rob Zombie’s Halloween wasn’t bad and I can appreciate it for what it is. It’s a different take on the story. As for RZ’s H2… I don’t know wtf happened there, LOL. Gotta say, it was bad, but it can be entertaining to watch I guess. One of the greatest deaths I have ever seen was when Michael stomps that guys face into nothingness, LMFAO!!!
As for the whole 3-D shite, Michael doesn’t need a damn GIMMICK!!! Why doesn’t anyone understand this?!? I am not looking forward to this 3-D movie because it’s just a cash in project and I believe the people behind the franchise right now don’t really give a shit about the fans and what they really want. They just wanna make their dollar and that’s it. Because they know we’ll buy into it. We’re dedicated and no matter how shitty the movie is, we’re gonna go see it. Sad but true. Someday, someone will come along and restore the franchise to it’s purest form. Myers will again become “The Shape” and Halloween will be dangerous again.
I do believe that Rob Zombies vision is done he died in H2 thats it he did his best and I was very pleased with what he did. I thought he did a superb job!! However I do think they should remake it in like 5-10 years give it a rest so it doesn’t suffer from critics as bad. Give it a new director and go from there just to give it some new life I dont really care if they make an H3 but not in 3D!!! I’m the type of person that doesn’t live in the past. I take remakes and sequals for what they are worth and if ya like it great, if you love it even better, if they are pathetic then you always have your favorite to watch
If an H3 remake is indeed in progress, I hope it ends up having Don Post re-releasing the classic trio line-up.
I doubt the latter would happen but wouldn’t that be great.
If H3 happens I’ll see it. Let’s face it one way or another we all will. I hope if it does it goes back to the creepy stalking shape that we all love. Even if it continues the story make it continue with Michael being more hidden and in the shadows. Also have him wearing a Maniac mask. Give me all that and I’ll be happy.
IMO I don’t think RZ should have given Michael such a backstory. Thats why I love the originals so much. THey had depicted Michael as a kid who murders his family, then just simply turns into pure evil. No talking, no mask symbolism, just a man, who has Dr Loomis describes, blank pale emotionless face, the blackest eyes, the devils eyes.
I agree…3D is a lame gimmick that will pass just like it did in the 80’s…If they continue with the RZ Halloween storyling, I think that Laurie should wake up in the hospital having the events of RZ Halloween 2 as a dream (except for the opening of RZ Halloween 2, I liked the hospital scene quite a bit) and then go from there…maybe Laurie passed out as Michael was about to kill her but then Michael was shot by Loomis and then transfered somewhere via Halloween 4…OR just wait and reboot it in a couple of years
