Halloween 35th Anniversary Blu Ray Specs!

I’ve been rather reliably told that Mr. Kirkus paid roughly $2,000 for the Halloween materials he owns (plus approx. $200 in shipping fees), as they were also offered to other interested parties at the time he purchased them. With legitimate storage expenses, a finder’s fee, etc. factored into the equation, what does the Halloween fan community believe would be an honest and reasonable offer from Trancas to Mr. Kirkus for the material (circa 2013)?

I’d be interested to see an actual dollar amount put out there by Myers fans, as we have no agenda other than to see the footage in question and thus might have a more balanced approach to this whole affair.

This whole drama also begs the question: what does Mr. Kirkus intend to do with the extensive Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 materials he recently purchased via Ebay auction? Hopefully there will be no problems there akin to the Halloween footage fiasco…

Thats a good question about what we the fans think its worth. I dont know squat but from my pov i kinda look at it like how much could trancas really make off it? Sure all us hardcores would buy a special ed halloween blu ray with it on there just.for that. But the genral public??? They dont know what a billy kirkus is or prob dont care about buying it just for.that reason. They would just go pay $7 for the already release version. Ive heard billy say many times they can make millions of it and i dont know if thats accurate. Lets say they released it as a stand alone release wo the movie and just the footage and sold it for $20. To even make a million in sales they would have to move 50,000 units. Is there that many hardcore people like us out there? And i 100 percent see where billys coming from and wants compensation i just dont know if i see it being worth it to trancas.

There’s a ton of Halloween fans out there. On Facebook alone, the series page has over a million likes. That’s just on Facebook.

Maybe not everyone collects Myers masks or can afford this hobby in general. However, the series in general, is big. There’s plenty of hardcore fans out there.

I know there tons of fans out there but hiting a little like button.on fb is different then spending $20+ on a blu ray. I know tons of people who love halloween and are huge fans but probably dont even own the dvd or blu ray.

Reality is there though. Regardless, there’s still almost 2 million folks looking up Halloween on Facebook alone, to simply click on that little button. Haha! If your friends are hardcore fans, they own at least one DVD. Not saying that these friends of yours would go out and spend 20 bucks on this DVD, if released. Not everyone is going to spend 20 bucks on a DVD. I can see your point on that. The economy is in the tank. However, I would gladly spend 20 bucks on this if it was released. In the end, there’s plenty of money to be made by whoever gets their hands on this.

I def wont argue with you cause like i said i really dont know. I was trying to find how many units sold of the 25 years doc but couldnt find it anywhere. I just try and put myself in the average fans shoes and not insane hardcore nerds like us lol. Im a hardcore movie buyer i buy tons of stuff but my love and hardcore side really only is for horror. So lets take a comedy or something i love wel say xmas vacation. I love the movie, own it, seen it a million times but if.they released behind the scenes footage i jist would not.care one bit. Thats all im trying to say. To us this is a treasure but to everyday normal fans i dont see them caring

Consider the following:
I bought an amazing house at a forclosure auction 10 years ago for $5,000. Considering upkeep expenses, what does the Halloween community think would be a reasonable offer from ABC Realty to buy the the property? And no, you can’t see pictures of the house. Nope, I won’t tell you how big the lot is either. It’s cool, you can just guess the location.

See what I’m getting at? No reasonable person would make a serious offer on something that they have never seen. Until Mr. Kirkus lets the cat out of the bag and shows the buyer (not the community) the footage, here are just some of the unanswered questions:

  • What footage do you have?
  • How much footage do you have?
  • What condition is the footage in?
  • Do you have the sound for all of the footage?

This could very well be 15 hours of pristine footage that when edited, could amount the the greatest special feature ever created for the film. Alternate takes, silly gags, test footage, mask footage, etc. Or if could be an hour of random shots and camera tests without sound that won’t really amount to much. We don’t know. And much more importantly, Trancas doesn’t know.

And therein lies the rub.

Yeah, it’s pointless to argue. It’d be nice to see the footage though. However, what type of footage is it? That will define the price, and interest for sure on this deal. Anyways, I’m like you. I buy many movies as well. I’m a GIALLO fiend. Haha!

Exactly…even as fans, how can we throw out dollar amounts if we have no idea what Billy has? Why such resistance to showing Trancas the goods?

And by the way, I’m really sick of the (extremely tired) idea that Trancas is taking advantage of the fans. It’s not like with each successive release, your current disk will discontinue to work. Nobody is making me purchase these editions - I choose to purchase these editions. And I’m honestly glad there are so many releases. I would much rather have multiple opportunities to buy a new edition than have a company like Twilight Time release a limited edition with no special features.

I applaud Trancas for this edition. Dean Cundey approved transfer and a new commentary? I’m all in.

Yeah, that’s cool, and all. However, wasn’t it Trancas that shut this site down before? That’s why many people don’t care for Trancas. They’re Vultures on Youtube, as well. I know it’s a business though. Also, that’s why Kirkus must feel like he wants some valid cash in his hands. Like you said, you’re glad that there are so many releases. Think about that for a second or two. They’ll keep on, keep on, releasing that footage left and right. Banking money with their very own version of Barry White’s voice in the background saying right, right on. Haha!

              OHHHHH Yeahhhhh this Bitch is fixin 2 git it up the arse with a blade :smiling_imp:

I may be wrong, but I don’t think the site was ever shut down. I do remember them cracking down on mask sales though. And as far as YouTube goes, I agree completely with any company putting the squash on their material getting distributed for free. So many people (not pointing the finger, just making an observation) think they are entitled to free content via YouTube or illegal downloads. I don’t agree with that mindset at all.

And why should you care that they are continuously releasing new editions? You are not negatively impacted by them at all. It’s your choice to buy or not. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. If enough people feel the same way you do, these disks won’t sell, and the releases will stop.

As I recall, MM.net was down for a week or so during the Trancas fiasco - likely due to MM.net figuring out where it stood legally.

Trancas did indeed shut this site down. Don’t know for how long though.

However, 60% of youtube is illegal, anyways. It’s the way of the computer World these days. Perhaps If Youtube wanted to stop it fully, they could. They don’t. Anyways, the main problem wasn’t Trancas taking down full movies or even video clips on Youtube. Cool. Do it. It’s when they’d take down tribute video slideshows with pictures that they were pointing and raising both middle fingers to their customers.

Actually, I don’t care how many releases they want to do. My point was that’s why Kirkus wants some valid cash in his hands due to just that. Exposure.

Don’t do that. Baby, PLEASE don’t do that…

Look it’s a Youtube video… Haha!

My mistake, I didn’t remember that the site actually was shut down for a time period.

I’m not sure where you get your 60% number with regards to YouTube being illegal, but I would probably dispute that and say the number is way lower. In any event, if Trancas took down video slideshows or pictures, it was probably because their copyrights were being infringed upon. I know the content that they were removing sounds trivial, but I can’t fault any company (not just Trancas) for trying to protect their brand.

I do agree with you that Kirkus deserves to get paid. If his footage is worth paying for. But until Kirkus decides to open up the vault to the buyers, it’s a moot point. Why would anyone purchase anything, especially something as potentially expensive as this, without first seeing what it is they are making an offer for? Somewhere earlier in this thread Billy mentioned that whoever maks the first offer is the one who loses. But that’s how a negotiation is born. And there will be NO NEGOTIATION until Trancas sees what they are being asked to buy.

Yeah, Youtube is pretty shady in that regard. It’s upwards of 60% or more. This is why they started putting commercials in front of their videos and putting links to purchase music, etc just below the videos. That helps pay the companies and artists for allowing them to keep the music, etc on their site. Without copyrighted material on Youtube, I doubt that site is that popular. Youtube got tired of all the copyright claims and lawsuits.

Kirkus must have good footage though. He must. I mean, that video he downloaded was crisp and clean. However, no sound. That’s what I’m most curious about. Anyways, hopefully something comes of this. The majority wants to see it. :drinkers:

“One BILLION dollars!”

Yup…cold, mean and callous…but warrented!

“MILKSHAKES!”
