Hey! So I found this website that has a pre order for Halloween in 4k for 5 or so dollars less than the one on Walmart’s website and bluray.com. I need to save as much money as I can because I just got my first car that I’m restoring (1969 chrystler Newport convertible for those who are interested) and I need to spend a pretty penny on it. So can anybody let me know if this website is trustworthy or not? Here’s the site: https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product/halloween-4k-uhd-blu-ray-digital/
Honestly the site looks pretty legit. Also if you use paypal as your form of payment you should be just fine. But I guess you never know…
Never used it before. Hopefully somebody here has and can verify their authenticity. I usually stick with Amazon for the free Prime shipping as sometimes $7-10 makes products even more expensive even with the money you’re saving
So, what’s the word on a 40th Anniversary edition? Is this new 4K it? I would like to get a nice steelbook or Digipack version.
I don’t think the 4K edition is the Anniversary edition. There had been talk of 2 versions being released but I haven’t heard any updates. I’m assuming it’ll be released following the new movie’s premiere
Checked the stock this morning at my local Target, and rushed right over! I guess they’re putting them out early so I cancelled my Amazon order and grabbed it early. Only $14.99 too! Full PQ review will land on my show next week for those interested.
Well, let me know how it looks I guess lol

Apparently people are complaining about the look, saying that it doesn’t look any better than previous releases. I can’t speak to that though, I hope it’s wrong!

I’m interested and hoping it’s indeed a new 4K transfer with Cundey’s approval.
It’s very reminiscent of the 35th Anniversary transfer. At times it has a slightly colder color palette than the previous release, particularly in daytime outside scenes, but fine detail is immensely improved throughout and it’s the best the film has ever looked in my opinion. The original mono track is NOT included, so that’s a huge bummer.
I like it in HDR—to me—its not overdone in HDR—I still have to compare it to the other xfer’s. Without doing a side by side,–there seems more detail in the pumpkin in the opening titles—again will have to compare.
There’s no question that there’s more fine detail compared to any other available transfer (this is coming from someone who has seen the film on a really nice 35mm print).
It won’t be everyone’s piece of pumpkin pie, but that added depth, more fleshed out deep blacks and noticeable uptick in resolution should be enough for any hardcore cinephile to be in awe over. I’ll post a link to my full review on my show this week.
I am very interested if Michael is still blurry in the behind the Bush scene… I know that was most likely a creative choice but maybe they reverted it…
There are certain things from films of the past we just have to accept. I’d rather the issues remain faithful to original film than be artificially sharpened or altered. I’m personally very happy with the new transfer, and would love to hear from people that have watched it on calibrated setups.
I want it to stay blurry, I like how it obscures Michael. I was just wondering hoping they wouldn’t make it clear.

No original mono…this is worthless.
Apparently the included blu-ray isn’t a 4K downsample, or even the 35th 2K transfer, but the older bright 'n orange one.
I’m not sure how much more detail you could eke out of 4K downsampled to 1080p over 2K, especially for a dark, grainy film. But it’s irritating all the same.
The 4K Ultra HD disc is true 4K graded with High Dynamic Range. It’s miles ahead in terms of fine detail and depth, and particularly shadows and blacks, than any previous release.
Lionsgate did for some reason provide the old original “brightened” transfer rather than the 35th Anniversary to properly accompany it. For me as a 4K enthusiast for $14.99 at Target this was an easy buy. The transfer looks fantastic.
Not miles ahead of the 35th Anniversary blu-ray.
Seems like they just used the raw scan they had for the 35th release and did some tinkering from there. No negative scan (every release has use the interpositive), no newly restored audio, no original mono, lacking special features, a rush job to get it out before the new movie.
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. On my calibrated setup in comparison to the 35th Anniversary Blu, the added depth, fine detail and clarity were more than apparent. It’s not close to being a perfect transfer (unlike something like Christine in 4K) but for the price, I’m personally happy with it.
