***Halloween Kills & Halloween Ends Discussion***

As much as I’ve surprisingly grown to dislike these new movies, I’ll be at the theater watching Ends as I’m sure lots of us will be.

However I do hope the next installment (if there ever will be) will have a better atmosphere and cleaner mask reminiscent of the original. For now I’ll take what I can get.

Boy I sure am glad that I can just watch these movies without risking an aneurysm from rage. The only Halloween movie I ever hated was H5, and pretty much only because of the stupid mask. I guess ignorance really is bliss, huh?

You’re definitely right. It’s just mindless entertainment not really worth getting bent out of shape about. But it’s hard not to considering how much I love some of the earlier films. My love for the franchise actually extends through the first six films. Even H5. I love their atmosphere. I love Loomis. I love how genuine and earnest they are. I really get a ton of enjoyment from all of them (1-6). Maybe that’s why I hate these new ones so much. They just feel so hollow, superficial, bogus, frivolous, and worst of all, like a wasted opportunity. (Sure, you could argue that about any of the movies post-H1, but at least for me, they all have that special something that was lost after Donald Pleasence died. Whatever it was, they haven’t been able to get it back)

I agree. The baiting is horrendous. They bring back these beloved characters to just to have them spew the most cringeworthy dialogue and then kill them off like canon fodder. It just feels so cheap and pointless.

I would consider maybe pre-2010 JLC to be a fine actress, but my god she is terrible in these new movies. Which is a shame because I actually really liked her in H20. That movie was a long shot from being perfect, and I have a ton of gripes with it, but the one thing it got absolutely right was Laurie Strode’s portrayal. The portrayal was great and JLC did a great job acting the role. Her portrayal and acting in these new ones is just garbage beyond measure. If I didn’t know better I would swear it was a MADtv skit.

I’m honestly not so sure I’ll go to the theater for HE. Yes, I will watch it (because I always give every new Halloween movie a chance, despite what’s come before) but I don’t know if I’m going to give them my money for it. Heck, I haven’t even bought HK yet on bluray. As far as I’m concerned there’s just no enjoyment whatsoever to be had from it, so I don’t see the point in owning it. I used to care about having a “complete collection” but I think I’m ready to finally draw the line and just not own something I despise and will never watch. (I did eventually buy H’18, but it’s the same thing. I get zero enjoyment out of it. I legitimately despise it. So… I’m actually considering selling my copy).

At this point any excitement I have for the Halloween franchise squarely rests on the potential for what comes next, after HE. I’m hoping a new studio gets a shot at it. Maybe Platinum Dunes can finally have their chance. (I’m not necessarily advocating for them but I’m definitely ready for a new studio to give it a try. Blumhouse just isn’t my cup of tea)

You guys are nothing but a bunch of butthurt manbabies.

You sound pretty upset people don’t like a movie you like.

And Iam not talking about flashbacks.

To clarify this theory of Loomis’ return in ENDS, we have to make a distinction between an actor and the character he portrays.

If Donald Pleasance were alive today, he would be well over 100 years old, but the beauty of fiction is, is that Dr.Samuel Loomis does not have to be the same age as Donald Pleasance.

He could be younger!

Young enough that the character could still be alive in the timeline of this trilogy, albeit very old.

Even though Dr.Loomis was referenced a few times in KILLS and 2018, these references provided no definitive proof that he is dead.

Laurie Strode referred to Dr. Sartain as “The new Loomis”, and Sartain himself revealed he trained under Loomis. There is no proof of his death here.

Marion Chambers mentioned him as she was about to shoot Michael on his behalf. This quote from Marion does provide the strongest evidence that Loomis is dead, but it is not conclusive.

Now if Loomis is alive, you could argue that the podcasters would have told Laurie that they had spoken or tried to speak to Loomis, but that did not happen. So from this you could assume he is dead.

Finally, how did the Podcasters get a hold of all of Michael’s medical records, and all of the other investigative material that presumably belonged to Loomis?

That we don’t know, but if Loomis is retired, all of those records are still the property of the state, and could have been retrieved via the freedom of information act without Loomis being informed.

So, if we are told to expect the unexpected, we could learn that Loomis could have been living in some kind of nursing home when he learned of Michael Myers’ return in 2018, which provided him with the motivation to leave the nursing home to join Laurie, Allison, Hawkins, and Lindsey in the fight to end Michael Myers once and for all!

Kills basically made H2 canon, especially with Marion’s one liner and including the cops that were in H2 81, so much for retconning it

If, let’s say, an ~85 year old Loomis shows up in the finale and is the one to take down Michael, I would be ok with that.

Man y’all are writing Rise of Skywalker level treatments here [emoji1787]

That’s literally every film these days

The new mask may have stitches. Interesting.

True enough…unfortunately

I recommend checking out the Critical Drinker, he talks about the problem with modern films, script writers, characters, etc

Halloween Kills is very underrated.

I’d rather watch it with only the scenes of Michael cut together

It’s better than Halloween 2018 and I say that as someone that does not like excessive gore in Halloween films. I have a sneaky hunch after Halloween Ends that Halloween Kills will make a lot more sense to people and make it viewed much more favorably.

For me it’s the opposite. Halloween Kills made me appreciate 2018 a lot more.

Exactly, 2018 was by far a good movie but it didn’t show Michaels true power, Kills does. Kills was the great buildup for Halloween Ends and I don’t think a lot of people realized the meaning of kills. In Halloween Ends do you really think the town is still going to want to fight Michael? No because he took them all out while he himself took a beating, it’s no surprise he was shot 6 times in the first movie. Yes I understand people don’t like the fact that they bring up the past a lot and that the characters are a little dumb but the positives out weigh that. It shouldn’t have the bad rating it has based on that, it’s the second movie out of the trilogy, this is the buildup for Ends. The town was becoming monsters themselves, they forced an innocent man to pretty much jump off a building because they thought someone who looks like Dr Penguin is Michael :joy:. Anyways all I’m saying is Kills should have a better rating than it does because that was an awesome ass movie and a perfect buildup for ends.

I agree with all this despite me losing interest in this trilogy. Maybe it was all the hype and the whole year delay due to COVID that had an effect.
