***Halloween Kills & Halloween Ends Discussion***

LIke i said, i would not rule out a direct to VOD release. Jason Blum said himself he guaranteed Halloween Kills will be released this year, no matter what.

Per DEADLINE, everything rides on TENET:

"And if Tenet moves, everything else in the near future slides –Mulan, Wonder Woman 1984, etc, God forbid there’s another spike in COVID-19 cases. Just like we told you what would happen in the wake of MGM’s No Time to Die move, everything moved, and this time it will be further into the fall and beyond.

Exhibitors were waiting for a decision this week as to whether Tenet would stay or not, and no news is good news." - DEADLINE

Jason Blum says a lot of things, as great as he is. The choice is not up to him, it’s up to the distributor, Universal, who has had no problem delaying films plenty months (NO TIME TO DIE got moved seven months, F9 got moved an entire year).

PVOD for Kills is almost practically not an option, especially since Universal is mighty quiet on how the rest of their VOD films have done (IM, THE HUNT, ETC.)

See my post above. Jason Blum guatanteed it would release this year. Obviously a theatrical release is what they are trying for, but if they are forced to delay this thing, i strongly believe a VOD release is a high possibility.

This isn’t a big budget film LIke those other movies mentioned, so they can afford to take the hit on this one. VOD could still get them enough money to cover what they spent and more. They just wouldn’t make as much as they would if it was released in theatres.

Again, you’re giving Jason Blum way too much credit. It’s not up to him. If it were, I’m sure TFP would still be on schedule right now since theaters are supposed to be open in July, but it’s not.’

Universal themselves have said they are looking into releasing certain films via VOD if they have to. Who’s to say Halloween Kills won’t be one of them?

If The Forever Purge got delayed indefinitely, a film that you’d think would go VOD quicker than HK would ever, what makes you think HK won’t be? By that case, why not throw Candyman, and any potential blockbuster on VOD? They haven’t. The only reason why Universal made a big deal about Trolls 2 was because tracking was horrid for it before hand, it was going to flop in theaters irregardless, so it was a low risk-high reward situation to release that film when everyone’s cooped up in the house with a bunch of kids.

I’m just saying, if we see Candyman, other big horror releases (AQPII, The Conjuring 3) going VOD or something and making BANK, then yeah, there’s definitely a possibility. But that hasn’t happened. Hell, you’d think SPIRAL would be a great VOD fit, more than HK, yet that got delayed an entire year too. HK isn’t special in that regard.

You also have to remember that Halloween would be coming out in october. Which is THE month for horror movies. People will buy it and watch it because they want to see something scary for Halloween. I have no doubt it would still make plenty of money. It’s not just some random movie that would be thrown on VOD.

Candyman got pushed back to September. There is always the possibility for that one to hit VOD as well. You never know.

It’d probably do well, I have no doubt about it, but the loss on profit is still too large. In normal times, studios are able to bank on majority stake of theatrical gross, topping off with majority stake in VOD sales after the fact. Not sure if Universal would want to toss that up.

And the only reason why Candyman was delayed to September, is because Universal hopes theaters will be open by then, or else, if VOD after Trolls was really a thought, it probably would have kept it’s June release.

I just think if they’re not even willing to throw TFP on VOD (they actually took it entirely off the schedule) when that film is completely done, no way they’d do that with Kills.

If Candyman gets delayed yet again, then i might start to worry, But for now i have high hopes, and think everything is on track.

And the Purge movies have always been great summer releases. UNiversal is probably just trying to figure out what would be the best time to release it,

I agree! I’m not worried, I’m super optimistic about it all. I’m just saying, the longer studios don’t start promoting anything, the more films get delayed, the less likely stuff gets.

September-October could very well come and things could be getting somewhat back together. I sure hope that’s the case. But yeah, I think if TENET gets delayed/moved you’ll see majority of the fall slate move, just like what happened when Universal pushed ‘NO TIME TO DIE’, everything in the next 2-3 months after got delayed hahaha

Bit off topic of current discussions but I just watched The Invisible Man and it hd a very 1978 Halloween style to it in a lot of scenes and the suspense. I have a feeling Halloween Kills will have a similar feel to it

The Invisible Man was fantstic! I’m so glad i was able to watch it when it got released in theatres. Can’t wait to buy the 4K.

But yeah guys, i’m feeling good still. Got to keep the hope alive.

The Invisible Man was soo good!

And that’s all we can do, and is the best way to go! Without hope/optimism, things right now would be so grim. I really can’t wait for y’all to see what they cooked up!

It’s back!!

It plays a very, very prominent role!

Pretty random and pointless for them to do a watch party in May and then not release anything. Not a poster. Not a 10-20 second trailer. Nada.

Back in March Blum himself said “trailer coming soooon!!!”. So apparently “sooon!!” is over 2 months and counting.

(For those who haven’t yet seen, highlight for spoilers)

With the exception of the ending, I agree. The ending was way too by the numbers with her killing him, especially the way she did. I would have much rather he killed her and then ended it with him still out there, able to terrorize others. As is, it’s the same damn good vanquishing evil trope I’ve seen 500,000 times already. Thank goodness for Brightburn! :unamused:

I hope so, but I kinda have my doubts. To me, Invisible Man actually had some good scares and some nice moments of suspense. H’18 was completely devoid of them. I would love to see it, and I’ll keep my fingures crossed that it happens, but I very much doubt it.

That’s the thing, though it’s not really that random. It was never just a ‘Halloween’ event, Universal announced they were going to be doing “At Home” parties until the end of june a week or so ago after they started doing it with ‘Pitch Perfect’.

It was honestly the fans that went into it expecting something.
