***Halloween Kills & Halloween Ends Discussion***

yeah and def could be marketed as a kills mask rather then h1

I mean, I don’t dislike the design of it, bit ill be honest I’m sick of the rot mask look. I was really looking forward to a new clean white mask. As random and unexplained as Michael’s ever-changing masks were in the old movies, I did enjoy seeing a unique and interesting design every time.

I agree… The podcasters couldve bought a mask to taunt him with that wasnt rotted!

As fun as new mask are, I don’t see it happening. Granted, I don’t want it to either since I believe they struck gold with the H18 mask for the first time in forty years. I really admire the approach behind its creation with making sure the mask can take on different looks in alternative views, much like the original did. I also believe it retains enough of the original’s likeness to allow my brain to connect them both. Of course, mask don’t rot like that, but the Hollywood version of it works really well for me. When photographed from afar I don’t really even notice the rot details, and I like the approach of it looking more like an old man compared to a realistic style. I do believe the should be a hint of other worldliness to of.

It’s not going to work for everyone though, but I’m happy as you can imagine, haha. At least there will be a flashback mask to appease you guys wanting a new one. It won’t be featured throughout the entire film, of course, but at least it appears to be more than just a two-second cameo.

I also can’t see this iteration of the character wearing a different mask as it doesn’t seem to be just a mask to him. Instead, it’s his face. He went out of his way to get it back which lines up with the unmasking scene in the original. I don’t believe he’d care if a cleaner, newer mask was available for him. He’d most likely stick with the “in-universe” old glory. It made sense to get a new mask in H4 since the original didn’t exist in that continuity anymore.

Yeah, I just don’t like the aged/rot looking mask at all. There’s just something about the clean white mask that’s creepy af… and I love the idea about the podcast team bringing a “clean white mask” to try and taunt Michael. Much better than saying they got hold of the actual mask from that night in 1978, which would never happen in real life.

Exactly. Yet the excuse for the aged mask is that it’s more of a realistic approach, yet it isn’t realistic at all. No one would be getting access to murder evidence just to flaunt it in front of the killer who used it. I get the idea of it, I do, he has a connection with that particular mask. But podcasters getting it and then he gets it from them? Yeah, it’s a bit out there when you really think about it.

The only realistic approach I think that would of worked is him breaking into the evidence locker and stealing it back. However at the same time, it seems less risky to just steal a new mask out of a shop than to risk getting shot to hell in a police evidence location. So why not just go with a new mask?

It doesn’t matter, the direction has been chosen, so it is what it is.

I look forward to seeing the flashbacks.

Not a fan of the rotted mask myself. Cool idea but like others have said would have never happened in real life.

I’m with you. It’s one of my least favorite masks in the series. Not JUST because of the rot look, but because of how it looks in general. The way it was lit was mostly pretty bad.

I like the way it looks, but it was done in RZ’s Halloweens. How Michael obtained the mask was different, but I think it was an homage to RZ or at least taken from RZ’s movies. I can see the mask being one of the most contemplated aspects of pre-production for H18. I wonder if it was a team decision or just written into the script and globally accepted. I don’t hate it, but I do like the idea the podcasters having a new mask instead. Before this thread, I honestly never thought of that, but it’s a great and realistic idea.

I mean to each their own but I can’t imagine thinking the 2018 mask looks bad when 4, 5, H20 and Resurrection’s masks exists. They actually put the effort in and I think shot it well in my opinion. It looks great for me in the daylight, at night and especially completely in shadow. I was re-watching it the other night and the scene when he is next to Oscar with the motion sensor light out…he looked so creepy.

I agree. I love the look of the H18 mask. Definitely the closest to the original. I can’t stand the masks for 4, 5, H20, HR, or RZH2. I thought the RZH was ok before it looked all rotten. H6 is not a bad mask either. H4 has grown on me some, but still doesn’t feel right. H20 would have been much better had they used the H6 mask they used in the beginning scene for the entire film.

I really hate the fact that they’re “podcasters.” I wish they would have been something else. :unamused:

For me personally there was only a couple of shots in the whole movie I actually liked the mask. The main one that comes to mind was the shot of him creeping up the steps from Laurie’s hideaway before they lock him in. It looked pretty good there. As for the rest of the movie…not my cup of tea.

Can anybody PM me the script?

Someone pm it to me too, if it’s possible.

What’s wrong with podcasting? It’s just radio with regular people, usually people who are knowledgeable in the subject they podcast about.

I think what some people might have preferred if it was something on a larger scale, like a television news crew making a story on the 40th anniversary, or something like that. Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, Unsolved Mysteries, etc. Something along those lines. I mean, it doesn’t bother me that they are podcasters, but I think there is a stigma associated with the fact that anyone can be a podcaster, despite quality, reputation or notoriety (although they did state they were successful in shedding light on a previous crime, which alludes to their reputation).

I liked the podcasters and I thought they probably crafted some high-quality work, given how invested they were in the case. They also were sitting and eating takeout late at night still uncovering information about the case.

It would have been cool if they were part of a bigger production like the post above suggests, but it’s also nice that they were low-key and subtle. Haddonfield as a location definitely has the same feel, with its small town vibe.

Eh, I doubt most people would still be that indepthly interested in a 40 year old murder case from small-town Midwest. And, speaking as a journalist myself, most of the time people don’t pay attention to 40 year anniversaries of events. Usually 10, 25, 50, or 100 year anniversaries would get any attention, and even then it’s usually a 30 second segment reminding people that “X years ago this happened.” Outside of major tragedies like 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina. And even then, eventually those will be phased out for newer tragedies. Nobody ever really pays attention to, say, Pearl Harbor, anymore, for example. Almost nobody would be interested unless there were some new development (and, according to Laurie, there haven’t been), or either Laurie or Michael died. It’s why podcasters who specialize in serial killer cases doing their own investigation into the events makes more sense. Nobody above them would really care.

The podcasters were a fairly clever, socially modern way to bring us back into the story. Especially with how many true crime pods there are. On a personal level, I really like how they and Sartain are cut from a similar cloth and are interested in uncovering the question of “Why, Michael? Why?”, but in the podcasters case they come in as skeptics and adhere to reality (doesn’t work out for them too well). All three of those characters are a bit meta as they can represent any armchair analyzer of Michael (like me, lol) or really any screenwriter/filmmaker that’s tried to explain him in the numerous sequels. They all died because of that obsession. Michael don’t have time for that shit.

Fair points. Using podcasters also modernizes the film a bit.
