Does anyone else let their kids watch any of the Halloweens? If you don’t have kids, would you let them if you did have any?
I remember watching my dads Halloween on VHS when I was a youngster. That’s were my love for Halloween began. Personally, as long as the kiddos don’t start acting out or showing signs of violence associated with the film, I think its ok. However, I don’t let them watch any of the RZ versions.
What’s your thoughts?
I am 26 and do not yet have any kids of my own. However, i am the same as you and began watching Halloween movies when i was about 6 or 7 years old. The first one i saw was #4 and i remember the first scenes i saw to this day. It is also where my love of the films came from and i have not yet come close to murdering anyone, lol. As the movies did freak me out back then i still loved watching them and could always tell the difference between what was just a movie and what was real. So not having any kids of my own i may not be the best person to answer your question, however from my own experience i know that it was never a problem for me. I also agree with your decision to not let them watch the RZ versions of Halloween, as they are a little too outta control for the youngsters IMO. Its a good thing that you are looking out for your kids and im sure you are a wonderful parent, and everyone should be able to see Michael if they so wish !!

H1 and some of H4 & H5. But I always keep the remote in hand for the “not child friendly parts” NEVER would I let them watch it by themselves because of the bad parts! But my son’s only 3 so that stuff would make a crazy impression on him.

You said it better than me JC. I agree 110% with your answer. H1, H4 &H5 ONLY for mine. They cover their eyes during the kill and sex scenes by themselves anyway. There is so much more worse crap that some other kids do. Today’s Music, TV, Drugs, Alcohol is not the same as it was when I grew up (AGE 35). There’s more of it and easily accessible. Halloween movies are the least of my concern.
my son has been watching them with me since he was 5. he is now 9. I think the only one Ive had reservations letting him watch is RZs Halloween. The language , killing and stuff I dont mind him seeing, because he knows its not real. But i dont care for him seeing the sex scenes, because he starts asking too many questions.
I watched Halloween for the first time when I was 8. I remember renting Halloween 5 years ago and taking it to my friends house, we were probably 11. His mom first said no at first then changed her mind later. Thats the only instance I can remember. I am not a parent so I really dont know how I would feel about letting youngsters watch.
A lot of men have that problem… .
Sorry, it was too tempting, now back to the thread!
My 5 month old watches them with me all the time but I don’t think she is really watching them but more the other things going on in the room and all. I have watched Halloween and a few others with my now 6 year old boy but i always make sure to tell him it is not real as I couldn’t keep him from trying to watch. He would sneak around the corner and open the closed door to peek. My 17 year old has watched them since around 5 or 6 maybe as late as 7. She kept getting upset that i would shut them off as soon as she would come over and told me she wanted to watch them with me. I don’t fully remember anymore what the first one she watched was but I told her none of it was real and even showed how alot of it was done. My soon to be 8 year old will not watch any of it but I don’t mind as she is more into fairy tale stuff more.
I’d let mine watch H1-H4 since they aren’t too bad.
I have let veda watch:
H1 tvcut (there really isnt many bad things in that one anyways)
H2 tvcut
H3 fastforwarding
H4 Fast forwarding
H5 FF
H6 tvcut some ff
H20 tvcut (too tame if you ask me)
she hasnt seen h8 yet. . but oh well
RZH1 (ONLY the theatrical. . NEVER unrated) LOTS OF FAST FORWARDING. . lol
i have a “version” of H2 so im watching it again before i let her see that one. . its on my laptop so ill get to mute and fast forward
She is now 9 years old and she LOVES Halloween as much as i do. . its cute as hell. . her friends got pics of hannah montana, and jonas brothers in their lockers. . . with no prompting from me. . she has John carpenter/tommy lee wallace/ and nick castle in the shape masks playinbg together as coupe devilles inb her locker. . . she is the coolest kid ever!
i have 3 girls that are ages 5, 10,12, they have watched h1-h4 and have not had any problem. my 5 year old is the biggest fan of all three of my girls. i watched halloween my first time at 6?
I started watching horror movies from around the time I was 5 maybe before. I don’t have kids but when I do I have no problem with watching any of the Halloweens. The nudity, I would have them cover there eyes but the kills no big deal. I grew up fine. My friends kid is almost 12 and is terrified of everything because he was never exposed to it. His nephew, who is 16 is the same way.
Same here James!
Agreed my brothers! When I was a kid my parents broke me into the classics like the og Universal monster flicks and other greats like NOTLD, Jaws, stuff like that, etc. These kind of movies are somewhat perfect for youngsters cause there isn’t alot of over the top gore, language, and other offensive dialogue in them.
My parents rented halloween 1 and i watched it and thats what started the whole obsession,i watched it when i was 4.I also had all the movies and a myers mask when i was only 4 years old haha id get in trouble for drawing michael at chool in 1st grade haha ive been a hardcore fan ever since.
Well, I see we pretty much feel the same way. I don’t feel so bad now!
Ha, I am a kid!
My son is 7 now but I don’t let him watch any of my horror movies. He’s got a enormous phantasy & he’s asking me 'bout monsters & ghosts all the time.
I know he would be interested in my films. I let him watch some
DVD covers( Dracula, Frankenstein,…) but that’s all. He loves ‘Jurassic park’ but I just let him watch the trailers. He’s always asking me:
Daddy, are there any violent scenes in ‘Jurassic park’, What do they look like ???. No, I don’t think that my son is ready for such movies.
He also never has seen any of my masks. But I think he will step into my footprints some day…
I have a four year old son and he loves Michael Myers. He actually sits with me when I get on this site (like he is doing right night). Believe it or not the Halloween movies are about the only movies he’s quiet and actually watches. I know there are some people who have a big problem with letting their kids watch scary movie but then those same people will turn right around and let their kids watch some vulgar comedy where there’s so much nudity that would put pornos to shame. I don’t get people that say things like “No you know you’re not allowed to watch that junk. Put on Dirty Harry or something”. Hypocrits. They get to me. So my answer is yes, I do let my child watch them. And for those that don’t, I respect your decision, but I would advise not letting them watch any of the other bad stuff out there too. Remember it doesn’t have to be scary for it to be considered “junk”.
I’d let them watch them, only the TV versions though until they’d turn 12.
