Halloween:the inside story made me mad(a little)

I was watching recently this T.V documentary about Halloween 1978.The guests included Rob zombie. Somewhere in the documentary Rob zombie stated that he hated the Halloween franchise more and more as it went on because of the story line.It just made me want to drive to Hollywood and ask him WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN HALLOWEEN IN THE FIRST PLACE  !?!But don’t get me wrong I LOVED Rob zombies Halloween. Its just that he got involved in it without liking or at least recognizing the whole Halloween franchise,AND HE MADE A SEQUEL.And i’m not trying to sound or be mean but thats just what i think. What does everyone think?

He did to change the Story, or the Start. Giving it his feel.

He did it for the money.

Zombie hated the sequels more and more and for that I can’t blame him. After Halloween 1 and II (Halloween 4 to a lesser degree) things got worse and worse until Resurrection was defecated out.

The problem is Zombie has a EGO too and a misguided sense of his talent, so him saying he hated the series more and more was because he thought he could have did much better in my opinion.

The remake was pretty good but keep in mind it was because Zombie’s input was basically limited. Zombie’s H2 sequel allowed him to have creative control and you can judge for yourself how well that worked out.

I don’t question Zombie’s directing abilities (The Devil’s Rejects being his watermark) but his writing leaves quite a bit to be desired.

He got into it BECAUSE he hated how shitty all the sequels got…h5 sucked, h6 sucked, h7 and h8 both sucked…he wanted to bring back osme sort of originality to the franchise and I THINK HE DID A FANTASTIC JOB…I THINK HE WANTED TO SAVE IT AND KIND OF SHOW THAT MYERS WASNT A JOKE (FACE KICK BY BUSTA RHYMES…) lol.

I have to agree Resurrection was horrible and as ajgreat said ā€œface kick by Busta Rhymesā€ā€¦well that (imo) is the lowest point of the series, even worse than the H2 remake ā€œvisionsā€ crap.

I think H6 was good in its own right however and H20 wasn’t bad at all.

I don’t know what to say really for once haha,i like all these opinions you guy’s have though and i liked Rob Zombies Remake but his followup sequel left a lot to be desired imo.but i agree H8 resurrection was a load of Crap basically watched it once never again.

Agreed…100%

Zombie has a huge ego, there is not much that he likes that isn’t his. Anytime I’ve seen him in concert it was a huge disappointment. He usually comes off as if he didn’t really give shit to be playing there. That’s just him.

Two things prevent H20 from being a perfect companion film to the original Halloween; the ever-changing masks and the tacked on Scream score. It’s not a bad film though. I’d rather not comment on Hobo-Myers…

I didn’t like RZ saying all the stuff he did either… and in another doc he was talking about how Myers coveralls were not dirty enough to be a mechanic’s set… which shows that he wasn’t as big a fan as he says he was. Any fan worth his salt knows that the coveralls were indeed weathered and dirty, just not filthy. I worked on aircraft in the Navy and my coveralls were dirty but they didn’t look like I swam in grease… because I WASHED them.

RZ’s Halloween wasn’t terrible… but I still didn’t like it all that much. And don’t even get me started on the intestinal scrape that was his H2. The thing that annoys me the most about RZ is his complete inability to create characters that are not sick and twisted in some way. He made a few, but most of his characters are sick and and completely white trash. It’s ok for Devils Rejects, but to inject Halloween with an overdose of Hillbilly was over the line IMO. It works for Jason, it works for Leatherface, but Myers and Freddy should always be white trash free. Maybe a lone character, but anything more than that feels completely off for those characters environments.

Oh, and maybe crafting suspense without resorting to pure brutality is, I guess, asking too much of RZ.

I think him going on about the coveralls (which i have seen too in the doc your talking about) really shows his focus on what he thought was imporant, which is terrible…he made a point of saying in that doc that he wanted to remake the movie because of the clean coveralls (amonst other things). Who the hell cares about how dirty the coveralls are!!! how about you focus on making a good movie…the reason the first remake was good and why i like it, is because of its similarities to the original, which is all owed to John Carpenter and Debra Hill…he changed things up a bit, but it was still the music, the town of haddonfield, the classic scenes like Loomis in the grave yard and Bob under the sheet, and the 3 girls leaving school for the day talking and laughing, that make this movie watchable. If Zombie literally had to start from scratch and make a completely new Halloween, it wouldnt have done very welll…oh wait, he did that with H2

What he said, lol! ^

Well this is probably the pot calling the tea kettle fat but the only Halloweens i would at least change a little if i could would be Resurrection and Rob’s H2 i mean really making myers roar when he is killing is just obsured he is supposed to be the SHAPE and not have any emotion at all or at least a little but come on and at the end of RZ’s H2 HE MAKES HIM SAY SOMETHING wich i HATED :imp: !And for Resurrection Maybe make it fresher ,more believable, the tittle and maybe the mask i mean it kinda looks like a dead, shaved, naughty joan rivers Or lets just say it looks a little too feminine. But hey thats just my opinion.

Not to mention the lack of actual Halloween holiday presence, but that was even less apparent (nonexistent, really) than the lack of Halloween feel in Resurrection.

I find it funny and ironic that Rob hates the sequels, yet he did no better with his two abortions. Of course that’s my opinion and so is the fact that I find Halloween 5 better than either of his movies.

Amazing how Hollywood works. You can be a somewhat successful musician to jump right into directing movies with no schooling or formal training whatsoever. His Halloween movies are terrible.

I couldn’t agree more with all of these posts and will go one to add (of course) The only thing I can agree with RZ on is that I too hated the sequels more and more as they came out.The story lines got lamer and the masks got hokier.RZ as a musician is alot like the Halloween franchise, they started out good but petered out as the years went on.I also agree with another poster that said RZ has no idea what suspense is.Halloween is one of the scariest movies ever made and there is almost no blood in the entire movie,it’s what you don’t see that is scary, your mind creates things scarier than anything you could ever put on screen. As a side note,I am now a Facebook friend with Ken Kirzinger, the man who played Jason Vorhees in Freddy vs. Jason.

Well said his directing is quite good but yes his writing and storyline leave a lot to be desired IMHO

Strong opinions here! I like and enjoy the Remake. Mainly because he made Myers Scary again. But the second…LOL what a load of crap!

Completely agree with all the comments guys… Ive said it before on other posts… Whilst RZ’s take on H1 was a fairly good attempt… He completely lost the plot with H2, Yes sure it had a few great scenes but it was a mess overall.

And as for his version of Laurie… It just doen’t work for me… H2 just winds me up how weak she is and how many times shes screams and screams and screams… enough with the screaming already Jeezz!!!

JLC’s Laurie grows to become stronger and stronger which just really works within the franchise originals!!

As for Halloween Resurrection and the mad casting of the dire Busta Rymes… Oh dear oh dear… I could have forgiven this film and maybe even began to accept it, but Mr Rymes is everything that is wrong with it!!!

In saying all of the above, I do just want to say that I do own every entry into the series as it is all part of the franchise… and yes I will still be sat there in October in the windy wet UK on my sofa watching back to back franchise lol… :axe:
