Definitely want to keep this thread alive. Ever since it was announced, I’ve been on here way more, to maybe see an update. For the 6 years I’ve been collecting Myers masks, I’ve never been more excited for a new sculpt. Hoping the artist wasn’t turned off by the community, and decided to keep this as a private sculpt. If Somnambulist reads this, hope everything is working out man.
You know what’s funny? I was just talking about this mask to two other friends. Almost a month away from it being announced one year ago. I was wondering to myself if this was really the most accurate castle stretch that I’ve ever seen sculpted or if the initial hype was over inflating how much I liked it…
This picture should be a hint for what my conclusion on that was! I cannot wait until this is done, it looks fantastic.
I’m hoping this mask will be available before October. If my sculpt doesn’t mold right then I want to get one of these for Halloween this year. If not, I’m still probably gonna get one anyway because this sculpt is so awesome.
Great comparison dude! It is so evident that this person cares deeply about getting things just right, and I respect that very much. I look forward to new updates when they come and I am hopeful the mask will be available soon of course, especially if blanks to send to JC are on the table!
It does sadden me just how entitled some folks are though. Zac_Crook said it best, you are owed nothing and you should expect nothing.
Say it louder for the folks in the back. Some folks need to find something to occupy their time other than cosplays and maybe it won’t seem like forever
Whoa! The old thread resurfaces. I still greatly appreciate the interest, and support. I also don’t mind criticism, so long as it’s fair.
This has definitely taken me some time. More than I would have hoped, but life happens, and so do occasional setbacks. But those setbacks provided some very valuable lessons that will definitely lead to a better final product. And, honestly, I would rather deal with a lengthy process on the front end, and work out the kinks as early as possible. If I put a bunch of effort into the sculpt, it only seems logical to provide the same level of scrutiny to casting, painting, and finishing.
Very few pieces are as scrutinized as the original hero mask, and that was a big part of the appeal of embarking on this project. Every element of this subject is subtlety and nuance personified, so I have to hold my own work up to that scrutiny. I know it won’t be perfect, but I really want to do proper justice to the source material.
I don’t want to unveil too much too soon, so here is a fairly recent comparison pic:
Depending on what type of head form I have a casting resting on, it can take on a slightly different look. I thought this shot resembled a neutral unworn Kirk appearance pretty well. Obviously there are some noticeable differences considering the distortions caused by the Castle stretch, like the angle of the nose for example. But overall it’s encouraging to see castings of the sculpt have the potential to transform in ways resembling the actual hero. That is if I’m not deluding myself of course.
Thanks for looking, hopefully there will be a more significant update soon.
It looks beautiful as it sits! but I know you are a perfectionist.
If you are going to offer blanks Im down paypal ready anytime, heck I’d even buy a flawed pull lol
