Amazing work and thanks for the update! Eager to see the progression of this beauty!
I second that, Iâm for a blank also
Have to agree 600 is a bit much.
Its such an amazing sculpt, doesnât get better than that. Perfect comparison from Ghostlyshape, this is the only H1 iâll ever need in my collection. Cannot wait to see how youâll do the hair! Its probably way too early to say but iâm very curious if blanks will be offered as well as finished versions.
GOOD GOD!!! That mask IS Nick Castle as the shape!!
Whoa! The old thread resurfaces. I still greatly appreciate the interest, and support. I also donât mind criticism, so long as itâs fair.
This has definitely taken me some time. More than I would have hoped, but life happens, and so do occasional setbacks. But those setbacks provided some very valuable lessons that will definitely lead to a better final product. And, honestly, I would rather deal with a lengthy process on the front end, and work out the kinks as early as possible. If I put a bunch of effort into the sculpt, it only seems logical to provide the same level of scrutiny to casting, painting, and finishing.
Very few pieces are as scrutinized as the original hero mask, and that was a big part of the appeal of embarking on this project. Every element of this subject is subtlety and nuance personified, so I have to hold my own work up to that scrutiny. I know it wonât be perfect, but I really want to do proper justice to the source material.
I donât want to unveil too much too soon, so here is a fairly recent comparison pic:
89807B40-24A3-4DF5-90AE-711A71BBE7B1.jpegDepending on what type of head form I have a casting resting on, it can take on a slightly different look. I thought this shot resembled a neutral unworn Kirk appearance pretty well. Obviously there are some noticeable differences considering the distortions caused by the Castle stretch, like the angle of the nose for example. But overall itâs encouraging to see castings of the sculpt have the potential to transform in ways resembling the actual hero. That is if Iâm not deluding myself of course.
Thanks for looking, hopefully there will be a more significant update soon.
The beauty is you can indeed take all the time you need. You owe absolutely zero to anyone and that is the key to creating a piece straight from the heart. You can create a piece with a mind to do a run, or purely for yourself. Zero pressure. Itâs beautiful and needless to say Iâd love to adorn my shelf with one, someday.
Excelsior!

This is why this piece is going to be so special. Lots of respect for the level of care youâre putting in to every step of the process. Canât wait to see more.
Can we get some new pics to keep us going?
somnambulist, more like CEO of Perfection
Iâm giving him till June and I will pay $600, no more!
I wonât even pay that much. No mask is worth that much.
Have to agree 600 is a bit much.
You guys would faint at some of the prices of âhigh-endâ masks in the past. And a lot of them werenât even original sculpts!
I hope he charges an arm and a leg for them. He deserves it. I donât get the feeling heâs making this mask only to retool it later and make more. Iâm a purist Kirk fan myself but this brings the Myers sculpt on par in collectibility in my mind.

Iâve been in this hobby for 15 years. Buying and selling the entire time. Do you think youâre telling me something I donât already know?

I thought I might be, yeah.
This is one of my favorite sculptures, but come April, itâll have been a year since its first post. Somnambulist will have to show he can produce large runs of masks if he wants to sell them. Iâm looking forward to whatever comes of this gorgeous piece!
Wonder if we will get any new news? Been a year now

This project has taken way too long. Itâs actually kind of pathetic if you ask me.
