Thanks for the edit, Scott! Cool side by side, Starkiller! I looked through some old photos, and managed to find an Image of an old flawed test casting that had a similar shape and lighting.
I’m way overdue for a proper update, and hope to have one in a day or so. I’m not sure whether to post here or on Facebook.
I think we would all appreciate an update here. Not everyone has your FB or a FB in general and we all have stuck with and kept this thread alive for ya.
The mask looks superb! Really digging the vibe. Spectacular job, bud!
I also put two pics with similar angles of the KHU and ID. Obviously the masks aren’t going for the same looks but the details of the ID are also very on point to the KHU. Best H1 and h2 right next to each other!
So, I plan to keep the update rather brief. There is a lot going on, but I’m just going to focus on the main hold up.
So, when I sent Josh his mask, the latex somehow became misshapen during shipping. I’m assuming that the mask was likely exposed to excessive heat, and perhaps even effected by cabin pressure on a freight airplane. I used shipping airbags with my packing materials, and they were all popped, along with the distortions to the mask.
The issue with the mask was minor, however, as it returned to shape through both time, and applied heat. I’m also aware that not everyone will automatically assume that the mask will return to form, should this somehow happen again.
My hope is that this specific situation was an anomaly, but rather than cross my fingers, I’ve decided to fabricate a potential solution.
Above is a foam under structure specifically designed to precisely fit this mask. This is a prototype that I will eventually cut in half and modify to be made into a buck for vacuforming.
This should hopefully provide a straight forward solution to any potential shipping problem, as well as a semirigid under structure to support and extend the longevity of the mask itself.
Currently, I’m in the somewhat timely process of bondoing and sanding the surface of the prototype buck. I’m hoping to have this process done sometime during the weekend, and hopefully have a test form in a week or two.
Also, I want to say thanks for the feedback. I suppose I will need to post cross-platform from here on in. I’ve not been on Facebook since my identity reveal, and I’m not sure if I’m quite ready to see what I’ve gotten myself into . With that said, I will probably do a more truncated post on the Fb group with a reassurance that I am not ignoring my dms, and will get to that ASAP.
Astute observation, yes, I am fan of Caligari. For me it’s difficult to deny the influence of that film on the original Halloween.
For a long time, I’ve thought that a cool project would be a period accurate, early 20’s silent film demake of Halloween done in the German expressionist style of Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. I think the look, style, and lack of audio (other than music) would lend itself well to the minimalist style of the 78 original.
Everything would have to be accurate to the period, including a mask for the shape, and since latex masks were not invented until the 30’s, I would choose to go with an expressionist mask in the style of the expressionist stage performance of the German ‘Totentanz’.
This isn’t anything that I’ve thought too heavily about, or anything I’m planning on working on. It’s just a fun idea that I thought would be really cool if done right.
If somehow some fan project happens to arise after this post, then I say I am entitled to producer credit
In terms of mask progress, things are moving forward alright, never as quickly as I would prefer, but life has a nasty habit of interrupting my work.
The prototype under structure is pretty much complete, although I continue to refine and tweak the shapes every time I look at it.
Outside of that, everything is moving along pretty well. I have a new hair fiber source and custom color that I am happy with, and things are progressing nicely.
I plan on finally responding to Fb messages and private messages once vacuforming begins on the head form.
I would definitely be on board to see a version of Halloween in the vein of calagari… would be very interesting indeed! Love those mask choices! Does my astute observation get me a better space in line for your amazing Myers mask?! Lol haha jk jk. I was INCREDIBLY impressed with the ending of Calagari… ESPECIALLY for the time period! Just fantastic!!
