I decided to create this topic to record my progress when I eventually rehaul my second H40. Specifically, to share the pictures of the mask that came in the mail; its a nice copy, even the hair is decent but I’ll still redo the hair after exploring more with mixing mohair and crepe.
Here’s a link to some really good mohair that can be unraveled and mixed with the crepe wool to get that frizzy screen accurate look, if that’s what your looking for

Funny enough thats the stuff I was looking at! Though I think I’ll do the dark brown they have, it better matches the roving I got thanks to you
I’m glad I could be of some sort of help with your mask
So I decided to take a break from my Ends mask to think a bit more about the base layer and if I should do washes to alter the color, and instead work on my H40. I’m primarily going to base it off of these masks, so if anyone has any more pictures of these specific ones leave them here!
U should also use the Sean Clark H40 video as reference. It is very good reference.
I took your advice on blending in the black and yellow more on the burnt side. Hopefully it looks better, if it doesn’t be honest
That actually looks great! It’s just like JJC and Castle’s masks, more brown and tan than the yellow on the stunt mask that I like.
Can I please get a link?
That you! I’m pretty satisfied with how it came out. It was driving me nuts for the longest time.
Does anyone have any tips for mixing latex and paint? I always eyed the mixing and it worked, but now actually doing 50/50 measures, it dries in my brush quickly and basically turns to small clumps and no actual paint on my brush.
Mixing in more paint than latex helps keep it from drying up and clumping. So about 20% latex and 40% paint would work good
Is that what you do? I feel like that would that make it less adhesive, maybe I should add distilled water first
I feel like the ratio of latex and paint depends on the texture of the surface of the mask your painting. Adding distilled water could work pretty good
I bought some distilled water and added less latex and a drop or two of the water, it worked a bit but I’ll just do less latex I guess
Update: The dry brushing is coming along well! I find it best to start with a slow dragging motion to lay the base down, and as it gets thicker, move on to the circular or sweeping motion to build more paint up in all the right areas, or else you’ll be left with a flaky job.
Great technique! Glad to hear the base is sticking this time without the cracking. Did you get the color the way you wanted it?
Yea! Thankfully this color is easier to get, its basically just a slight off white for the references I’m using, so I mixed some white, antique white, and the latex + distilled water.
