Holm_737 (Beware)

I want to make everyone aware of the controversy of Holm_737. A Bit ago, a couple of mask makers were posting about his new Kirk mask sculpt, discussing its origin. Holm_737 has been very secretive about his sculpt and has only posted semi/finished photos of the 3d model and casting, but we do know it has “98 lineage”. This has brought up the theory that the new mask being made by Holm_737 is a 3d scan of the 98 proto made by NAG. While there currently isn’t a lot of proof, it is definitely possible.

This alone isnt enough to cause concern, however Ive learned that he has 3d scanned a TOT’s pretty woman mask and claimed it as his own.

In this photo you can see the pretty woman mask sculpt on the left and Holm’s mask on the right, outline is the eyelid from the original sculpt that remains in Holm’s casting proving its orgin. I commented on the instagram post about this mask asking if it was a 3d scan and Holm completely avoided my question instead saying that the clear structure used to hold up the mask was made by him.

Again there currently isnt enough proof to create too much alarm, but due to his past history of 3d scanning and the sketchy secrecy around his new mask I wanted to bring it to everyones attention.

Whether this is true or not, taking a scan or casting of someone’s sculpt WITHOUT PERMISSION is just scummy. I’m quite sad that some scans of TOTS masks are being sold online too.

People have copied the I.D sculpt even to this day too

its not that he “copied” the 98 proto, since the 98 proto is just a kirk mask so you couldnt copy it. But that he possibly 3d scanned a 98 proto to make his new mask.

Im not sure you can really copy a mask tbh. All myers masks are sculpted based on screenshots from the film, to copy a mask would just mean that you are replicating the same screenshot from the film. my concern would be that but that you are using the mask (in this case the ID) to make new molds without permission.

A huge majority are retooled with some being direct recasts, or they come from multi generational molds with some kirk lineage, the 98 Proto is one of the most retooled sculpts ever, literally, a bad recast that still gets still is the Warlock and Fear masks, now done by Sinister Studio, then there is the whole Nightmare mask debacle

I don’t get how more people don’t understand this

I guess we’ll see more soon…?

I dont really have a problem with people recasting masks that are no longer sold or used to be made by large companies (the 98 proto being a recast of a old don post mask). My worry is that Holm’s mask may possibly be a recast of a currently sold nag mask. Again there isnt much proof to back this up, but its something to keep on the back of your mind when looking at his content.

So the guy literally just admitted to rescanning a 98 Proto.

me neither, i think it’s stupid when folks crucify someone for recasting any 75 kirks [except for what happened to Jay Allen] like aint that what we wanted in the first place and nag didn’t even sculpt the 98 proto - so fuck that

I am not sure what you implying here…SMH Recasting and scanning it is not allowed when it comes to someone’s released mask. We all know the 98 proto is a tiny recast of the 75 kirk so either NAG or Todd that worked to enlarge and sell these 98 proto casts are allowed to do so, someone to steal a mask they worked on, it is theft in this community. End of story.

What im implying is that if a sculpt has 75 kirk lineage like the 98 proto, hmk, castro and wizard - they are ethical recasts. Due to the severe rarity and the supply and demand of accurate masks. But, why does it matter if someone recasts a kirk that is made popular from the og master and recasteded by nag. Sounds like to me yall are some hypocrites.

To own an original of those masters and casts to recast from, you need thousands of dollars, that gives it an ethical edge compared to someone who is looking for easy money and stealing from anything that moves with every possible way with 3d scanning or recasting. Todd and NAG paid thousands if i am not mistaken plus they enlarged put ( efford and personal work) to give casts to the community. hypocrisy is to baptise black as white cause this is how it works for you. If anyone starts molding and recasting other people’s masks this hobby , this page and the community will dissapear sooner than you can imagine.

Scanning something you don’t own the rights to is theft. It should be looked at as stealing in our hobby. When you own a mold . Pay thousands for that mold. You can do whatever you want with it . It’s yours . You own the rights . If you’re spiteful and do something like this out of revenge . You think it’s ok? So in our hobby we can’t trademark anything . However , there is a code of ethics that a lot of young hobbyists don’t know about. Or honestly from what this guy is saying care about . This is theft and it really should be frowned upon. Cmon now guys . Didn’t your parents teach you any manners or how to be a good person ?

No one owns the rights to the Shape mask. Every independently created Myers mask is theft from Trancas.

I guess at least the dude didn’t recast someone’s independently made sculpt. Though I feel like if he could make the 98 proto look that good, he shouldve been able to sculpt it himself that well.

The makers they own the rights to their molds, there is the indy market and this forum is built on that, like it or not this is how things are. It is not about rights its about ethics and support of the indy market the myers community and the collectors. If Trancas and every Trancas mind ,he can allways shut down the indy markets period. We are too little to speak on behalf of Giant companies like Trancas , Miramax etc and it is none of our business bottom line…
