Interesting Halloween Facts II

I did one of these a good while back but it was fun and that is what this forum is all about…FUN!.

So let’s do it again. Just add a few interesting facts about ANY of the Halloween franchise movies! Keep it to no more than 5 facts per post so everyone will get a chance to contribute!

Hope to see some participation and thanks everyone!

Here goes:

\

  • Tony Moran (who played Michael Myers during the “unmasking scene” at the end of HALLOWEEN) is the brother of non other than Erin Moran who is famous for being Joanie of “Happy Days”!

  • The fire sequence at the end of HALLOWEEN II had to be done twice because the first take didn’t turn out looking right!

  • The UK version of Halloween III: Season Of The Witch" was cut quite a bit. The US version runs about four minutes longer than the UK version, for example there is a complete cutaway in the scene where the android murders Harry Grimbridge in the hospital. We see the fingers poised and the feet and Halloween mask moving, then we are moved to the android wiping his fingers on the curtain. The UK version isn’t treated to the fingers actually pressing into his eyes! Similarly, the section where Starker is attacked, people in the UK don’t see his head being pulled from his body, nor the geyser of blood. The most striking difference is the scene where Marge Gutmann’s face is blown away. In the UK version, all that is seen are her hands quivering over her face and then a fade out. If you live in the UK, you’ll have to check out the new HALLOWEEN III DVD to get the true version. Simon tells us that while the mentioned had been cut out of previous releases of the film (on the now defunct Thorn/EMI label), the film has since been re-issued on the Game Entertainment/Quantum Leap label and appears to be the uncut version, as it shows ALL the scene’s mentioned, that where missing from the earlier release. The film has also been screened uncut by the BBC (terrestrial) and on SKY Movies (satellite). The footage was apparently cut out by the distributors for it’s earlier release. This was done presumably because when it was first submitted to the BBFC for classification it was shortly after the “Video Nasties” furor of the early 80’s and so they decided to trim the gorier scenes to ensure a certificate. (**thanx to Pit of Horror on this info).

  • Denise Richards (insert drool smiley) auditioned for the role of Beth in Halloween 6.

  • H20’s “Hillcrest Academy” was a mansion owned by the late film actor Antonio Moreno. Moreno’s wife sold the mansion to the Catholic church and it became a home for wayward girls, the mansion is now said to be haunted by Moreno, his wife, or both.

Head’s up all you little catholic schoolgirl lovers out there!

Sorry, had to throw some humor in there (even if some may consider it in “bad taste”)

Great post, Lantern - thanks for bringing some FUN back

Halloween 2 was titled Boogeyman in Japan.

The original Japanese release of H1 didn’t have the Trancas logo. Instead the screen went black with creepy lettering appearing which read the famous lines,"Witches and Goblins/ghosts on Halloween night…

Looks like a job for T.A.P.S. call Ghost Hunters

This is the kind of stuff I like to read about 'round here. FUN indeed. Thanks Benny and Kaizu…

**The budget for the original film was $300,000 U.S., but after obtaining Donald Pleasance in the role of Doctor Loomis, he was paid $20,000 for 8 days of work. Not bad if you can get it. Thus, making the total shooting budget of Halloween (1978) $320,000.

Thanks for the support guys, I hope this thread can get even half the replies all the negative ones seem to produce over and over again.

Here’s another fact I thought was cool:

  • In Halloween II when the two teenagers come up to Loomis and the Deputy at the Myer’s house to inform them Ben Tramer is missing, one of the boys is Dick’s son Billy Warlock. His other son Lance is the kid with the boombox who runs into Michael as he is on his way to Haddonfield Memorial in pursuit of Laurie.

Don’t forget, the kid that bumps into the shape in H1 is Irwin Yablans son
They look alike!!

maybe since the mansion was haunted ,in the movie half the creepy sounds u here isnt really michael … :open_mouth:

This is the coolest thread I have seen on here in days.

Probably already known, but…

Christopher Lee was first approached for Loomis and turned it down. Debra Hill ran into him years later and Christopher said turning down Loomis was the single biggest mistake in his career.

As an aside - if you want to hear an AMAZING commentary on Halloween, check out the HOLLYWOOD SALOON podcast about it. The podcast is no longer being made, but you can find it on iTunes. They dedicated about 2.5 hours on the series back on 2007, it’s a great listen.

Are you taking about the Compass International logo? Trancas was not around until early in the 1980’s; up until that point they were Falcon International and they didn’t have a logo. The logo before “Halloween” is Compass International. Overseas “Halloween” was released in the theatres by Warner Bros. and I know their logo was before the main feature.

In Halloween 2, If I’m not mistaken, that was Dana Carvey 's first movie spot. He was the guy that the reporter was telling to get the parents permission.

That’s right LMAO!!
Thanks Billy, I meant Compass
I have this version on Beta

At the end of Halloween 2. When Laurie is being rolled out . Dick Warlock is playing a patrolman walking around the parking lot talking to people as laurie is loaded in the ambulance.

Dick Warlock killed Ben Tramer

I think this info is true,

John Carpenter named the character Michael Myers after a bully he met as a kid.

Great topic Benny! Thanks Man!

Actually, the REAL Michael Myers was a European Film Distributor that released Assault on Precinct 13 in the UK and the rest Europe to critical acclaim. The film went on to make Carpenter a bit of cash, and because of that, Carpenter named the killer after him.

Cool!
ya learn somthing new everday, thanks buddy.

Good one!

Thanks everyone for playing along, I really appreciate it.
Here’s another fact:

In Halloween there is a poster of a painting by James Ensor in Laurie’s bedroom. Ensor was an expressionist who often portrayed human figures wearing grotesque masks!

Dick Warlock had 3 inch lifts in his boots to make him 6 feet tall like Nick Castle. He is 5’9!
