I heard somewhere that it has been confirmed that Halloween resurrection is not an official sequal and is no longer canon due to the impossible explanation of Michael’s escape. If it hasn’t I will make a petition to make it happen, but if I have to, I need to know who to direct it to. So if you read this please tell me who to direct the petition to so we can finally bring justice to the true ending of the Halloween franchise…Halloween h20
I really don’t like H20, I hated the mask and how it felt so much like Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer, to me the original Halloween story ends with Halloween 2, I do love 3 though.
The real end to HalloweeN, was the ending of HalloweeN(78). JC basically had a gun held to his head to pen the sequel, something he wanted nothing to do with. They were never Brother & Sister, in the original. That’s part of what made it so effective.
I have a soft spot for H2 since it was the first HalloweeN film I ever saw, but I hated the brother and sister aspect of it, they easily could have had Micheal going after her without it, people might ask “For what reason? Why?” but is it necessary? There was no reason why Micheal went after Laurie in the first film, there should be no reason why he kept going after her in H2, maybe he was just determined to finish the job.
who ever told you that about resurrection doesn’t know what there talking about. as for the original time line they said its still possible im thinking they are waiting for halloween returns to see how we react to it. if the movie flops then maybe we can get back to the original time line. my h20 mask just for fun
Couldn’t have said it better. I can’t begin to explain how many times I’ve told people this through the years while watching the films, something always along the lines of “you don’t get it. It was never about family and seeking out sister/niece blood line. It’s just a guy who’s insane.”
To me, one of the things that makes Michael Myers so effective and separates him from your ghost face/Freddy/Jason was the fact that in the original it wasn’t all kill kill kill, but more about stalking and lurking, and just being an overall creep. The kills are there, but the stalking is at the forefront with no tie in to a main objective of killing his sister.
There’s no one canon timeline and no official timelines ( just roughly 1; 1, 2, 4, 5, 6; 1, 2, H:20, Resurrection; RZH1, RZH2; RZH1 director’s cut, RZH2 director’s cut, and the stand alone Halloween III), so it’s really up to you to choose what you want. The only thing official/canonical is the theatrical releases of each film aside from the Rob Zombie films, due to the theatrical versions not being released in most territories/countries in disk format; but if you like alternate scenes and such, you can chose to acknowledge those scenes (like fans of the Halloween tv cut or H6 producer’s cut or the director’s cut of Zombie’s films).
I mean Halloween 2 started out with alternate takes of Halloween scenes, which one could use to say the sequels are all from a divergent timeline (but one could acknowledge only Halloween 1 even if those weren’t alternate takes). Following 2 (which some choose to acknowledge as the only sequel) you have the original 4-6 sequels, and some do not like the Thorn story-line and so only choose to acknowledge part 4. H:20 came later as an alternate timeline sequel to part 2, some choose to acknowledge it as their favored timeline, others do not. Resurrection is an official sequel to H:20 (absolutely nothing has been mentioned to the contrary), and its’ timeline, but if you choose to only acknowledge H:20, that’s up to you.
Personally I find the ending of H:20 more absurd than the Resurrection explanation of it, and it felt like they were writing a cop out with several scenes, like “Michael” trying to remove his mask and seemingly acting as if he didn’t know what was going on, but that’s just me (and it was well known that Jamie Lee signed on for two Halloween films so that does seem intentional).
Just like what you like and don’t worry about what’s canon or not in a film series that has five Myers story/timelines plus a stand alone film, and will seemingly add another timeline with Halloween Returns.
The mask looking different isn’t always a continuity error as he would have had to pick up a new mask for 4 or h20 after 2 ( depending on timeline you follow) and for resurrection after h20. 4-5 is the only real error as it’s supposed to be the same mask. 6s change could be explained by the police having removed the mask at the end of 5, although I think I recall him wearing it in the cell.
As for storyline cannons I agree with darknessbdjm, it’s upto your own preferences. I personally place them all except the Rz sequels in the same world, and choose to ignore the storyline errors, as I don’t watch halloweens for the great storyline anyway, it’s about Michael for me. Only H1 really has a decent storyline imo.
I hate this kind of stuff. The films exist. All of them. Canon or not they are all a part of the Michael Myers legacy. Mustafa akkad didn’t care about canon. To him Michael Myers was nte boogeyman. He was the definition of evil and to him he was perfect. We forget that these are all movies, and we take them as some form or reality in terms of what has happened and in what order. We focus so much on what is considered canon that nwe lose track of what it is that we love so much about these films. What it is that brings tis community together and keeps us talking. We forget who Michael Myers is, and what Halloween stands for. Who cares about canon. Do they all make sense? No! Are they all good? No! But they are all here. They all exist and are all a part of the unstoppable force that is and forever will be Michael Myers and we can’t forget that!

Yes, but the shape of Michael’s head, and the weathering, change between 1 and 2. Then we’re meant to assume that the same mask in 5 is the one in 4, but they look immensely different. Then there’s the random masks that pop up all over the movies. The unfinished Kirk in H4, the H6 mask in H20, the various OTHER masks in H20 besides the Winston mask. The H: Resurrection mask being used in the flashback to H20 (In H: Res, that is). Frankly, keeping track of the masks in these movies is a headache for any writer. It’s no wonder they’ve made a new one for every movie except the second.
Yeah, that’s what is really good about these movies is suspense, suspense is what sets this series apart and doesn’t make it generic, I mainly made this article to express my opinion in how Jamie Curtis’ vision was basically screwed over and I thought it would be nice to bring justice and have it far away from ressurection, and I like how us fans still talk about these movies and analyze what we like and how we became fans, thank you for your time by being a part of this article
