I owned one that was made up H1 at the time of the original run. It was a known extra from Ken that I bought from Colin who finished it. I sold it about a year ago. So you can put that one on the list.
How some of you can sit here and say that you have no problem with Andrew is ludicrous! HE was the mastermind behind selling forged SLE’s and Images under the table, NOT Colin! Just because he never “personally” wronged you does not change the fact that he is a crook. With the logic floating around this place, I suppose every criminal in the world is innocent so long as they don’t harm you or anyone you immediately know or love. The logic around here is laughable at times. It’s the principal of the matter. Andrew has dangled his Ken Hertlein carrot over everyone’s head for far to long and many of you have been willing to tolerate his antics out of the belief that you too might be one of the few “lucky” ones to take a nibble of the Hertlein goodness.
Special thanks to Chris Zephro for having giant balls of steel and stepping up to the plate and posting his side of the story. Balls seem to be a rare commodity in this hobby, so it’s good to see you swinging a pair Z-man.
There are lots of people you can blame for this mess but one who seems to be getting no blame is Ken. He is the one who sold these as limited and then sold the mold to Dick and Andrew. He is ground zero for this problem because without the mold being sold there are no new blanks floating around.
Ken’s not so hard to get a hold of. Ken also would not be upset that pulls were being made and or sold out of the mold if he openly sold it to Andrew. It was eluded to that Ken said he was upset additional masks were sold. The story I heard was that Dick Warlock had purchased that SLE mold and chose Andrew as his artist and Andrew was going to retool that to make the Image mask. It was during that process that Andrew gave or sold pulls from the mold and the reworked mold. If this scenario is true then I can see where the mold was indeed sold but only to rework into the Image mask then Andrew was the artist who sold them.
Randy your old copy was not a fake but a blank Ken didn’t use for whatever reason and was sold or given to Colin. It was done at around the same time as the one I owned. They might of been smaller and that’s the reason they were not used in the original run. They are not recasts. All those other new ones I have no clue.
The mold should have been destroyed and the tooling should never had left Ken’s hands! The f***ing thing was suppose to be limited! Ken, Andrew and Dick are all to blame! The whole thing was a shame from day one and totally unprofessional! I stand by that and will defend my position to the death! I want nothing to do with any KH mask as long as I live, I don’t care how valuable or cool they are! I’ll take a Nightowl mask over any of them any day of the week!
Wow, all of this is pretty crazy!!! I also had no idea there were any DB2 recasts…glad my Kirk is direct from Dennis and as you say Chris, that Dennis is a man of his word!!!
I’ll have to be careful when it’s time to grab another DB for the Myers.
You’re missing the point, I like the KH masks, I don’t like all of the unscrupulous activity surrounding it, hence, why I sold you my KH/DW Original that was redone by JC and I sold my SLE to Dren. If you feel like you got burned in the deal, than I will buy it back from you and sell it to someone else.
How can anyone defend an Artist who sold a limited edition mold? Amazing! I personally like Ken and Andrew, but I don’t agree with them selling a limited mold and reproducing it, period!
I am taking this as a direct shot at me, not surprised. AS has done nothing to me personally, I was just stating my stance and my dealings. Yes, the logic is laughable as well as certain members. So is it better to assume all ties to an individual are connected and crooked if one is? He may be a crook but I have not experienced it directly. There are plenty of people that have had great deals with now crooked artists and continually conduct business with them. What is equally as bothering is having a giant inflated ego of oneself, flip flopping loyalties to artists, lying about mask pricing and flipping a mask for 2-3x the amount with some excuse to follow. If that ain’t principle, I don’t know what is.
I wasnt zeroing you out specifically, and apologize as you were the only one to mention Colin, so I can see where it seems like I was solely targeting you, but I was speaking in general about Andrew. It is bothersome when I see upstanding guys such as yourself giving Andrew a pass. Others in this thread are supporters of Andrew and will not say anything controversial against him.
Fingers can be pointed at Ken for not destroying the mold, but at the end of the day Andrew is the one making these “extras”, not Ken, Dick, or Colin. Dick is guilty of allowing Andrew to recast his Rare, Colin is at fault for selling masks under false pretenses, and Ken is guilty for selling blanks outside of a run that was supposed to be limited. I think we can agree that this is just one big cluster f*ck.
I bought the SLE, gladly at the time, from Chris for a deal at $1,500. I still feel that was a great deal, even though my view of the KH masks has drastically changed and I do not wish to own one, nor do I feel justified in spending such coin on a mask. But I’m certainly not going to let it go for an amount based on my opinion. All I ask is what I paid for it, and maybe this renewed heat around the SLE’s will also renew some interest in the legitimate copies.
What a huge mess. On a side note, i am glad to see 4 pages of civil discussion & important information being shared. The number of trusted makers/creators left is at an all time low in this small but expensive hobby.
On a positive note they are still great masks, and i am not even a huge devoted fan of the KH but i do like certain copies in especially the SLE and how Ken finished certain copies of them, but the fact they were released as a limited mask and now this well…yeah what a mess and all i can think is…Ken wtf were you thinking…why didn’t you just destroy your mold ?
I have to agree with Chris here. If I spent that kind of money on a mask that was supposedly limited, I would have been furious. Not only is it a slap in the face it drives the value down as well.
