You can’t hate on someone who doesn’t agree with what you’re saying about the mask.
I am in NO WAY upset about not “getting in on this” mask. I never do. If I really want a mask, I do whatever it takes to get one. Period.
That being said, to me, this mask isn’t as good looking as the first gold sig KH/DW’s out there. Infact, the most recent KH/DW that was posted a few days ago (I forget who the new proud owner is) is thee best looking H2 I’ve ever seen IMO. Something about this one just seems a bit too odd looking. I can’t really place it. Perhaps it just looks too H1/H2 hybrid for my taste. Not sure really. But to me the gold sig’s are untouchable in the H2 world.
Keep in mind that those pics were probably taken with Ken’s camera phone. When the mask arrives I will take comparison pics of the old next to the new since I own both and we’ll see from there.
Well according to Ken who actually held the Hero and carved up both of these great mask you are referring too. Ken said him self this out shines the original run. He fixed everything he wanted to on this run. It looks better to me. People keep calling them Gold sigs like that is something more special than the next copy, but again from Ken,"I ran out of ink in the other pen. When all is said and done and pictures from the owners come out. I think most will sing a different tune, Ken is certainly no photographer.
We’ll see what happens when they come out. But again, I said “IMO” not “In Ken’s Opinion” To me, having only these new pics to look at for reference, the first 5 masks from the original run definitely outshine this new effort.
Even what Ken says is just an opinion. In HIS opinion, this one is better than the last. In MINE, the old one looks better thus far. All ANYBODY has is an opinion on a piece of art. There are no facts.
Now, I could see you attempting to bust my balls had I said both look like crap, or I insulted Ken in some fashion. Neither of which are true. I simply like his first effort better and even hailed it as the pinnicle of H2 masks IN MY OPINION, so relax. It still amazes me how when someone differs in opinion with certain members on this site, the attitude rears it’s ridiculously ugly head.
I’ve never owned a KH, nor have I ever seen one in person. For some reason, at least in my eyes, the KH only shines when certain people wear them. ALl of the static pictures leave me cold, not sure why. Jonl’s worn pics from a year or two ago looked like screengrabs. I had the chance at this new one but sadly was not in a financial position to afford it. I can’t wait to see pics from the new owners…Larry
Of course it is true when dealing with a creative entity, the judgement of it is subjective. Entirely down to taste. You can have every measurement etc and it is still down to execution and is subjective. A principle can be objective , but not a work of art. As for the first few copies of the original KHDW, I agree the gold pen used is irrelevant. Same exact mask, only different pen used once signing took place and the gold one stopped working on the latex. Just as with every low run mask there are exceptional copies all along the run. If the artist got up on the good side of the bed then they are liable to turn out stellar finish/hair/pour work that particular day etc. I’ve seen a early copy shown one day and the next day a late copy shown, and you could not tell the difference, or the late was superior. All except Erik’s number 2 copy! The exception that proves the rule. For my taste I have thought all along the original KHDW’s would hold their own, or be superior. They are near perfect already, it’s rarely a good idea to try and improve on near perfection and he had the hero in his possession back then. I would have rather seen the Rare return, since it’s not just Rare and hard to find, but impossible to obtain now. That said, I think the finish on these will be consistently high and that’s huge with the great sculpt, so it’s lovely new mask to have.
I’m as calm as could be, just pointing out the obvious.
Killerpsychomask is correct, I think it’s clear to see the gold sigs are a bit more than jusr a pen, it’s the hair, paint and overall finishing work. If you look at the first 5 as opposed to some of the later copies, you can certainly see the difference. Either way, all are stellar pieces, but the first 5 are (…again, in my opinion) superior pieces of work.
The angles of these pictures makes it really hard to pass any sort of judgement. The paintjob looks great. I’m looking forward to seeing these go out. I am also leaning to the opinion that the original few KH/DW copies look a bit better. This looks more like the rare to me, not that that’s a bad thing or anything.

It just looks like that from the angles in these pics. I don’t think the people that didn’t get in(including me) are pissed since Andrew pretty much explained the situation waay back. Sorry if I pissed off anyone with the spock remark,I didn’t mean it that way.
From the pic it looks like a hybrid of the KH/DW and the RARE which is a very good thing
i preferd the original but… Nothing is wrong with this KH!!! it’s nice all over…
… no other H2 mask had top the KH & no one ever will… unless it gets recasted or clay press etc… … If you fellas want to know why i sold my Kh/Dw… i sold it because of the paint job… i wouldn’t let no one, repainted this mask unless, it was ken…
You had a nice copy Carlos! It’s like Killerpsychomask said, all the run had some beauties…it’s that sculpt!!! I know that many people are put off by the greyer color that came after the first five masks however and, like you, I wouldn’t have let anyone else paint it either. Although I must say, if someone who has a KH with a lackluster paintup were to let AHG, Colin, James or another great artist get ahold of it…WOW!!! That mask would rock!!!
As far as the first 5 gold signature copies, I do like them the best based on what I have seen. I’ve owned three copies of the KH and the Gold Signature copies had (imo) a better hair color (not as orange), more detailed and accurate painting (not as grey and more weathering) and a tad more detailed pull, i.e. the chin detail. I think that is why the “Gold Signature” copies became seperated from the rest of the run, it was just a coincidence not something Ken set out to do by seperating them with a gold signature. As Matthew said earlier, the pen just simply ran out and he didn’t bother getting another one!
As far as the new mask, I too (based on what I’ve seen so far) prefer the original run, I see a tad more H1 in this version. BUT this new mask is stil GORGEOUS!! Who wouldn’t want to have one? I would have jumped on the chance as well had I been given the opportunity.
In closing, congradulations to all my MM.Net brothers who scored a nice and rare piece with the SLE! I know you guys have waited a LONG time for this one and it looks like your mask is just around the corner! Wouldn’t it be great to see it in time for HALLOWEEN!!!???
Just wait until the owners get there masks…once they take some nice pics, stuff it H2 because it IS an H2 mask.

Every angle in these pics is funny…not the best choice in lighting ether…the hair line is a tad bit high, but other than that this thing is cooking!
the ears are NOT pointy I have close up pics of the ears, thats just the shadow and angle of the pic, these ears are the same ears at the original run’s.
