I’ll tell ya, it’s a funny mask. The hair color is actually brownish orange, but every pic I’ve ever taken, the hair looks orange. Again, it’s one of those masks that needs to be seen in person to really appreciate.

In H2 the hair does look rather reddish/orange, especially in the elrod scene

You speak the truth. This mask is VERY difficult to fully appreciate from pics and very difficult to take a “true” photo of.

The first five masks actually have a brownish red color to them but they come out looking red in pics!!

The rest I’ve owned or seen have the brownish orange color to them but do look orange in pics like Chris said.

VERY hard mask to truly do justice in pics, very much like the DB2. There are a few great pics of each mask but it requires far more talent than I have to really capture these masks’ beauty.

I’ll keep my opinions off the board but, congrats!
Hey Chris, thats a great copy man, It photo’s VERY nicely WITHOUT lighting tricks, so, what does that tell you about that copy.
Thats how I personally rate my own masks. They should still be able to photo pretty well in natural light imo.
Anyhow, with you holding it in light gives you a better idea of the copy that you have, and Its up there with the rest of them in the original run no doubt!!

Yikes I can’t say that it looks better than the early run gold sigs,but I can say Ken did an amazing job on this one,I can’t understand why so many people get upset when something good is said about Kens first run. Hell you guys Ken did those too I doubt I will ever own one anyway. If i had a choice of any MM mask out there,I would choose one of the Gold sigs.

No there aint anything wrong with it Zeph. I would love to own a KH/DW so bad I wouldn’t complain. It just appears that the detail was much better on the early # ones.

Still a wonderful mask, no question. I just also prefer the first sculpt early runs. Chris’ copy is great looking also, but there is something about Michael Lantern’s copy that is just ridiculous IMO. Remarkable.

The ears aren’t too high for god’s sake. They’re in the exact same position as they were on the DW/KH mask. The angles on some of the pics may look like the hairline is a tad high, or the ears are ‘high’, but trust me, they’re not.
And as far as the ‘huh?’ expression goes, I honestly don’t know what to say. I’d love to see whatever the hell you’re looking at. I guess the mask in H1 & H2 had a ‘huh?’ expression to it, I honestly don’t know how to even respond to that.

Don’t get me wrong here, everyone has their 2 cents to throw in. Some of the critiques that are inevitably going to be posted could be genuine, and that’s more than fine. You can’t please everyone. Not everyone is going to think that a certain mask is the ‘shit’. But unfortunately, ALOT of the critiques usually come from people that are simply pissed off or jealous that they didn’t get a certain piece, so instead of just sucking it up and acknowleding that regardless of the fact that they aren’t getting one, it looks great, some people feel the need to bash a piece and make completely pointless remarks about it.
I remember back when the DW/KH mask came out, and a bunch of guys said that it wasn’t worth the hype, only to retract their statement down the road when they finally got their mitts on one, saying that it’s ‘tits on’. I’ve seen it happen with the DB, The Second Stab, and a bunch of others. Point is, say what you want. But PLEASE if it’s possible, if you HAVE to criticize, make it constructive for the love of God. Otherwise, all we get are a bunch of dumb remarks that are getting really tired around here.

I wasn’t trying to be a dick, nor am I jealous. The ears on the mask ARE too high, and the expression just makes me think he’s confused. I was being honest, and apparently, you can’t handle that.

the side ear looks rather pointy imo. It looks to me like a mix between KH and Sandman 81. I think it’s the hairline that does it. the cheek lines look a little TOO pronounced, but it might just be the weathering. overall, undoubtedly a sweet mask though.

I don’t think “magic” was the issue. It happens with alot of masks/maskmakers. The first few pulls always look better and stand out more than the later copies. I think it just has alot to do with the effort that goes into the first few copies. Not even perhaps anything that Ken did on purpose, but just something that happens when you do the first few of anything. And with anything that you try to recreat over and over again, the first few will always look just a bit more sharp.

As for the new Hertlein mask, it looks pretty cool; the paint is rockin’. Personally, I’d rather have one of the original 30(?) KH/DW masks, though. They hold a special place in my heart for somewhat obvious (or perhaps not so obvious to some) reasons. That, plus I think they look a bit more accurate. They WERE based directly on the H1/2 hero mask’s exact measurements, afterall.
