LD's Halloween 🎃 WIP

Figured Id make my own section since ive posted various pics in different sections. Failed alot but finally picked myself back up and trying again . On the plus side, i learned that painting the inside with latex and sealing it is the best way to make these masks last . A step i didnt do with my previous failures . Anyways heres my progress so far. Today im sealing up the inside of my Ends mask, redoing knives, and working on Curse axe. Feel free to post your own WIP if you want. First pic is the inside of curse mask which is sealed up nice. As you can see , masking tape isnt the greatest for use on latex . Tried doing real rivet replacement in knives didnt go so well so im stuck painting them on . Also of note , this delicate tape is the best to use when spray painting , i used the green and blue stuff but it leaves marks on the clear coat and thus is no bueno.

I am using Flex seal for the inside of the mask . It is similiar to plastidip but thicker. I wouldnt recommend it for the outside of the mask as it has a weird texture, but it works perfect for the inside of mask , which will get lots of abuse through sweat and rot over time . Im willing to go the extra mile and make my masks hold its Shape through time…:smirk: Got wounds in place for 78 coveralls , just need to make the holes, did the knife by Laurie too. Also need to do weathering. Yes I know they arent workrite for Kills but they will work alright. Need to remove zippers for H6 coveralls as well as weather and add wounds . Lots to go.

Had to use filler for parts of this axe. If i draw on the wood grain with a pencil to fill it will it show through when i stain it?

Two light layers of clear coat . Should i do a third?
If only i had used this tape the other couple times I tried this i would have been done already. Sigh. Live and learn i suppose. I am happy with the wood grain effect i got on them i will use light grade steel wool to scuff up the painted rivets so it doesnt match the wood grain underneath them. Also happy with the rivets they are pretty crisp. Spraying the metallic paint with a matte clear coat dulls it down nicely.

Think one more coat on the top half (bottom in photo) should do.

Think i got it. Really digging this. This is the fifth layer of stain btw. Gunna do matte finish on the handle and make it look used and beat up with some weathering. Same with the axe head . Got a pretty good idea :bulb: how im gunna get the beat up, rusty and dulled look of it too.

Update on the masks , i had issues , missed a few spots sealing, and when i flipped it back to its actual shape, some parts had cracked and rubbed off. I think my latex/acrylic got too watered down in my process as well. Also , make sure you flip the ears and nose inside out, as there are places you can’t get spraying the sealant when it’s in its normal shape. i was able to patch up the spots again with my wax/acrylic (for base) and then the gray latex/acrylic paint and resealed and its fucking solid now. Definitely helps reinforce the Shape of the mask as well. Speaking of which im onto that part of the mask next.

Alright i had to do one more. It was the right call.
Honestly, just so stoked with this. :jack_o_lantern: the time i spent tweaking this thing was worth it. Also , i am gunna do the machete /surgical blade from 6 as well to add to the arsenal.
