Mask lineage chart

Hey all,

I apologize if this is out there but I have always wondered if someone ever made a chart of masks that derived from certain molds and what not or is there too many masks or variation to show this? I thought I saw this somewhere on the web awhile back?

Thanks- NS7

Somebody posted one last year… not sure if I saved it.

It’s a little biased… haha

I have not seen this before, but it would be very interesting to see one made or seeing the one that was made.

I would love to see this too!

I know Kaizu made this, charting the lineage of the Billy Kirkus Kirk, and it’s many, many descendants:

And here’s something I whipped up the other day, marking the lineage of the Evilution.

The Evilution was retooled into the Maniac, which then was the base for the TOTS Hospital mask. The Creep and the Maniac were melded into the Thrasher.

Bravo Davy, that’s the chart I was thinking of, and excellent work on yours as well!! :drinkers:

That’s an excellent thing to see! Very cool to know

That’s great, thanks for posting those,Davy Krueger!..“MMP STEALS mold, releases the nightmare and other incarnations” That part killed me, how is that even possible!? Did they break into, Justin’s house!..Some crazy, shady business in the past…

Is it true that Dennis recasted the NMM78 to make the DB2???

Re-casts of re-casts of re-casts of re-tools of re-tools of re-tools

Not sure how it is with the Halloween mask hobby, but over at the rpf forums when I was doing my Spider-Man replica, you would be shunned from the community for stealing people’s patterns or recasting.

It’s a lot like that here. Unauthorized recasting of anything other than an orignal 1975 Kirk or from the life cast gets you a lot of flack here, if not publicly shunned of even on the “watch out” list.

How does one steal it? Unclear on that.

or are we talking about a case where somebody hand sculpted a mold and then somebody else retroactively re-created it independently? That would be stealing I assume… but how do they do that? Just pouring over another person’s mask I guess?

Isn’t everybody stealing from Don Post that uses that likeness the end of the day?

Just wondering how it all works.

I think by stealing it’s meant that they recast the mask, effectively stealing the sculpt.

That makes sense. I would be pretty against it if they made zero changes, but at least if they are retooling it adds something to the mix. But I’m not an artist in that situation either.

It seems like it would be easy to just ask permission to re-tool it, but I assume there are politics behind it.

I’d love to see a documentary or write-up on all these stories. It would be just as interesting as the movie masks.

That’s absolutely 100% correct. The truth IS, its perfectly acceptable and fine to recast a Kirk from Don Post, that’s not stealing ( cough, sarcasm ) But heaven forbid anybody recasts from a recast, then they get put on the “shunned” list  Strangely enough though, that hasn’t stopped ANYBODY from buying those masks, then AND now, but shhhh, we don’t speak of those things :unamused:

Seeing that chart sure brings back memories. Sure do miss my NO NMM78 and Psycho.

Thanks for posting Davy! That is the one I saw I believe. Very cool to see some history behind these in one picture and the links

I think the Nightmare mold was sent to MMP and Justin never received his end of the deal, or something along those lines, hence the term “stolen”.
The only potential inaccuracy in the chart that I can spot is the WMP Genesis V3, which I think might be a retool of the NAG Classic 75 master.

The maker of that chart used whatever Genesis pic that was available, it doesn’t say what version nor does the maker care. WMP did use a Nightmare for the V2. That’s what he was trying to point out.
