Hey guys, just thought I would see if this has happened to any of you before…Well I had a heating and air guy come by to check out my unit and he saw my Michael Myers Display …and he flipped…started preaching…basically saying if I believed in God I wouldn’t have such things on display and started asking if my kids were headed in the right direction. …I got pissed and asked him to leave…Nicely…I have only had my displays up for a few months. You guys have been doing this for years…Do I have more of this to look forward to ?
Ridiculous. You PAID a heating and air guy to come by to fix your problem… you didn’t ask him to lecture you on religion. I would have called his supervisor and probably complained about that. Listen, I believe in God and I am a Christian… but I do not force my beliefs on anyone, nor do I judge. I’ve had a few ridicule me for my Michael Myers and horror obsession and also my MMA/UFC obsession. They talk about how contradicting it is to believe in God all while watching guys bloody each other up. Hey, I look at it this way - I got no problem w/ anyone kickin ass for the Lord or just kickin ass for a paycheck. Who am I to say otherwise…
You were mighty nice to just politely ask that turd to leave your home.
I’m not going to go into any talk about religion, but simply put, yes. Even if you or the other person don’t believe in any gods, you will get this talk from anyone that just doesn’t “understand”.
This is actually a great thread.I have often pondered the connection between religious beliefs, horror, and where to draw the line.
I know quite a few guys from this board are very religious or at least practice their religion.I do not see any reason you can’t have a broad enough understanding of what is right and what is wrong. There is a big difference between appreciating suspenseful films and an art form and hacking people up in your personal life. However, some people really do take it to the extreme where they feel it is rooted in dark energy or in some way a betrayal to their beliefs.I respect everyone’s take on it,but I personally feel you can separate the two.
My father in law is a born again Christian. He rarely preaches to my wife and I but I do know how he feels towards horror movies and things alike. He truly feels it should be out of the question in your life as a devoted Christian.I am very proud of my love of horror and especially Myers, but I must admit I can be a bit uncomfortable around him.The main reason is my tattoos in general, but especially the Myers tattoo that takes up my right calf and the Halloween jack-o tattoo on my right forearm.I know that he cannot comprehend having a permanent image of a fictitious serial killer on your body.I know he feels it is desecrating your flesh and I know a masked maniac wielding a kitchen knife doesn’t work for him as body art Because of this, out of respect,I try everything I can to cover it up when I’m over his house. He has never addressed the issue, but I know how he feels about it.I would only cover it up for him, since he is the father of the woman I love. For anyone else…screw em’!!
I find it refreshing to see the people of this board and involved in the hobby that can find the balance between religion and their love for horror. It is much easier to be narrow minded and condemn it.So,to all of you members with your varying beliefs,I salute you!!!
In conclusion, what that repairman did was completely out of line, bro.Like Chad pointed out,he was there to perform a service you were paying for.He was not called there for a lesson on life and personal beliefs.Ridiculous!!
Yes I believe in god,and so do my kids. I have a bible on my nightstand not 3ft from my Hannibal Lector Display.lol…your so right , They dont understand !
Thank you Myerstat, Im the same way, I respect all religions and try my best not to cause conflict…but when this guy came inside my home and …oh it was fine until he brought my kids into it…man I still cant sit down … people like that with a one track mind, it seem like there in a cult not a church.
This is EXACTLY my point.I have often described it as a cult mentality. Some people drown themselves entirely in their religion to the point of obsession.I attended a ceremony for my father in law’s church. He was being ordained as a minister.I was proud to support him,but it was the most bizarre scenario I have witnessed and it felt very much like a cult to me.I thought it was very much a worship session, which I respected, but the people’s conversations completely revolved around religion. It’s as if there is not room for anything else.
I find it hard to stomach people who feel the need to pass judgement, lecture, etc., and act un-Christ like when they claim to be a follower of his teachings. I have absolutely no need for religion in my life but if Jesus were to be alive today I’m sure he’d have a mask or two.
This kind of this really pisses me off. It’s none of this guy’s business if you believe in God or not. Besides, Michael Myers is a fictional character. Would he have flipped out if it was a bust of Darth Vader, Lex Luther or Frankenstein’s Monster?
Maybe he would have. Who knows? Either way, he was WAY out of line.
where does that blabbermouth get off with his holier than thou attitude. You hired the guy to work on the heat, not to offer his take on the supposed ills of owning latex masks. That dude has no business in anyone’s house; coming in and criticizing someone he doesn’t even know.
And its all your fault for giving it to me…now my family being stoned and run to the edge of the earth… …just kidding, that is one of the best gifts that I have ever received in my 36 years.
I live in the deep south Florida and had my baptist preacher grandfather tear every Iron maiden,Jason you name it poster in my room down when I was 16 and burn them and trust me I am 6’4 and you would never back talk him. He was a hard core marine war vet. But you know what I respected him because he would kick the s— out of me. What I am saying is I know what you are saying I have lived it and I get offended myself when I see some retard wearing a Charles Manson shirt. Why would you give that RAT attention but we are talking about a made up CHARACTER here and it,s your house. It,s just art
Wow! Man, So many people are so judging. I’ve never had that happen. And I would never do that to anyone if i saw something in their home and like flipped out about it. That would be very mean actually. Being thought for something your not, but Look, I actually don’t call myself anything. I do know there is AT least something there, not a human, nor figure, just a source for nature. But I just don’t buy into the bible story’s. And I Heavily Respect Every religion, EVEN Satanic, I actually like to study into all religion’s. But truthfully, I would totally mess with the guy and say something like, I believe in Mask spirits!
I think Jesus would have a slew of 75 DP kirks and then to demonstrate the greatest commandment “Love your neighbor as yourself”…He’d give us all one and then throw a big party where everyone’s invited.
It’s all in the delivery. If you are gonna call yourself a Christian than I see nothing wrong with spreading the gospel. Not in a judgmental or confrontational way though. I feel he could have been a more tactful in his attempt to talk to you about his beliefs. He blew it with you. The bottom line with being a Christian as I believe it to be is if you worship your masks and horror collection over God than you may not be the Christian you think you are. I am a Christian too and sometimes struggle with if God wants me having Myers masks and a horror collection. All I can do is try and be a good person and continue my personal relationship with the lord. If collecting Myers masks and being into horror movies starts turning me into a bad person than heck yes I will walk away from it. I do not see that happening. Good post. Mike
I honestly think if we all respect each others beliefs and we are friends like I consider all of you, We should end this subject. I am not offended but I promise you it will end on a bad note,it always does. He was wrong for judging you, not all believers like myself are like that. Oh yeah and I have lots of tattoos 2 LOL
