black all the way- aLL THE TIME
Use black pantyhose to put over your head under the mask it will give you THE BLACKEST EYES.
It depends on what I’m doing. I prefer the black eyes so if I’m indoors I’ll wear a black costume hood but if out at night I don’t wear the hood as its way too dark and the normal shadows do the job just fine.
Best solution winner
I agree with you man!!
If I may speak my two cents on that matter: ( it’s my opinion, this is what I would have said if a good friend wanted advice on the subject )
I feel like the real eeriness factor of Michael Myers is the fact than when you think you are about to see his eyes; shadows appears and makes them disappear.
You are almost on the verge of seeing his eyes but you don’t.
That’s the great thing they did with JJC unmasked scenes. You think you are about to have a clear shot of him but it never really happens ! Clever cinematography!
With that said my approach would be ;
How the mask is used and how it sits?
Remember : The key factor is DEPTH.
If you are going for a display piece :
-
if you want to have a eye insert in your mannequin head , try to use to top down lighting to cast shadows in the eyes area to make the eyes dark enough that they are barely visible + make the mask sits slightly forward in a way the eye are aligned with the top part of the eye cuts.
-
if you don’t have a eye insert , just paint the mannequin head black ( or buy it black or tape some fabric over the eyes) or if you have the inserts but don’t have a top lighting set up : put some dark nylon stockings on the mannequin head.
If you are wearing the mask and it’s a bit tight on your face ?
Wear a nylon stocking underneath.
The optimal way to have the mask sits perfectly is to pick a size an Inch larger than your head measurement, that way it’s the perfect mix of looseness and tightness.
If the mask REALLY is super super tight, you can glue some black fabrics on the inside of the mask but keep in mind that this isn’t optimal.
Because, yeah in the distance it will look cool
But if we get closer to you and the lighting changes around you but the eyes stays pitch black no matter : people will unconsciously find it odd and it will loose kind of the mystic.
Remember : DEPTH
wearing a nylon stocking underneath will allow people to think that they can look you in the eyes but the stockings will allow them to barely see them, and create a real sense of « void » in the eyes. The depth will make it uncanny
I hope this was clear I’m sorry if I may have done English mistakes !
This person has thought more about MM eyes than I have about anything. impressive
Agreed. Was literally gona say this.
I am wearing a black, thick hood under my mask yet. It would be very difficult to see anything through it, especially in the dark, so I cut two tiny “peep-holes” in it, but they are small enough to cover the whites of the eyes. So I can see something, but of course I have to be able to look right through the two tiny holes, otherwise it will be difficult again. Alternatively, I’ll try black tights.
I’m autistic I can over analyse stuff sometimes
I don’t think you overanalyzed that I think you made the ultimate guide to eye covers😆.
Glad I could help out and contribute in my own way !!
Definitely blacked out. I think in some shots its cool to see the eyes just a bit, but imo only JJC or Warlock could do it. I wear a thin black balaclava that does it nicely, and helps smaller masks fit much better (since I got thick hair)
He has THE BLACKEST EYES THE DEVILS EYES!
"This force, this thing that lived inside of him came from a source too violent, too deadly for you to imagine. It grew inside of him , contaminating his soul. It was pure evil "
ouch… that smarts… i like the way they did the rz look but i’ll always prefer the blacked out eyes look.
