I did a small overhaul on my mask last night… didn’t redo the hair, but I repainted the mask completely and I am very happy with the results. Didn’t take me too long either. Had a blast doing this.
It’s really stunning how great the mask is underneath that paint. So great with a little work.
Wow! That looks awesome man! I like how you went more on the subtle side, looks more natural. At least IMO. Looks very close to some of the pics of NC with the mask. Great work!
Yep! Just acrylic. I applied the milky white with a makeup sponge, covered the entirety of the original paint. I then mixed a dirty brown and black mixture to use for the weathering and hand painted in the creases and cracks. I drybrushed a bit more of this mixture in places to get the faded look I wanted in certain areas. At the neck I did a mixture of drybrushing, rubbing, and sponge work. I also used weathering powders for the rotted latex in spots as well. I sealed it with plasti-dip.
You think plastidip will keep the paint from cracking? I am thinking anout doing this to mine. You appear to have done a fantastic job btw! Kudos to a job well done.
Yeah, It was such a thin layer of paint that I don’t see it having any problems at all. Time will tell, but so far the paint looks great. No issues thus far.
Agreed. I may hit it a little with some more weathering soon. Or maybe experiment on the next commission.
For interested parties, I am doing commissions on this if anyone is interested. I have a few on the way already, but for now I have a quick turnaround. Price is $100, only more if shipped internationally.
Just had messages, and i figured i would get the info out here for people.
Looks awesome and $100 shipped in the states is very reasonable. I’ll get the word out, there are quite a few guys Facebook trying to find an artist to overhaul their copy without the crazy wait times
Thanks man. Yeah, many of the big names are already filled up. I want to do a test with rehairing and see if I can start including that in my overhauls.
Maybe one day I can go up and hang out with JC to learn the ropes a bit with painting and hairing masks. I need a teacher!
Did another commission, I think I got it closer to what it needs to be… but still just needs a bit more rot. Some of the detail is lost in photos, but it’s much more visible in person. I just want to get it closer to what I want it to be.
This time I did a latex acrylic mixture, and used better reference. But I still am pushing to get it more accurate.
