The best ways are a dust of corn starch (or talc powder, if not wearing) every once in a while, keep out of direct sunlight, away from dust, proper stuffing, etc. There are a lot of measure that could be taken to preserve the latex, but I’m sure everyone uses different ones here and there!
Agreed Jay! It makes you wonder with Star trek being so popular particularly back in the day, with collectors of all kinds of craziness, just how many pristine Kirk’s there might be sitting in the collections of Trekkies to this day, who have not a clue how iconic this mask is to a much smaller, but no less rabid group of horror/art fans.
I forgot I made it until it got rebumped just recently lol. Thanks for bringing it back! I’ll have to add Josh and Sean’s kirks to it.
I’m so glad you bring this up. I often wonder this too, how many private Star Trek collectors have one of these sitting around? There are some hobbies that often make a Venn diagram with Halloween fans like with kirks, the vintage Brute mask, Harold’s clown mask from H8, the Chef knives, etc. The combo of rarity that the item has between the two hobbies makes for a very interesting dynamic imo.
Gibbles Magic shop had 2 in downtown St. Louis back in the 90’s One was imo mint on a foam head the other Hard to say it was laying on its side next to it behind the counter. I didnt know at the time what I was missing out on. They prolly got tossed out. I tried in the eark 2000s to track them down, but there gone imo
